I don't understand where this sudden change in direction is even coming from.

To quote Cookie himself from an earlier Patreon post:

We’re thinking about making this change because it would help with a lot of game design aspects. Getting grappled would not interrupt the flow of combat anymore. We would not have to design enemies around being able to have grapple moves and reach Kincaid in any situation. And it would feel more like a reward. It would also clear up which enemies are lewdable and which won’t be (like the insects).

Basically we’re seeing a whole bunch of benefits to the approach but before making a change like this in the middle of development we wanted to ask you guys what you think! ^w^

Again, this hasn’t been decided yet. We’d just like some initial feedback and thoughts on this! Null is working on a short prototype version of what this would look like that we’re going to release together with a poll in January.

I guess doing both is the solution ? That way the Sub Gameplay stays and the Dom Acts are optional because you decide if you wanna do it or not. Win/Win i would say and no one can complain.

but by the way, it would be nice to add these dialogues in the game itself, little to change them , although ... it seems to me that it is also not necessary, everything should be in moderation, I think, balance.

Then you would have to offer additional animations. People would ask why there are two ways to start sex but the animations are always the same. "Lazy dev" is just one of many possible opinions people might get from that.

you mean leave this and that? I think it's redundant, imagine something like that in Night Of Revenge did you like that change? or Eroico, it would change the gameplay and atmosphere I would not like it. I like it when the enemy wins and punishes you, kind of like a bad ending.

I suggested that they might have one level/planet where it switches to "Domcaid mode" as sort of a theme, but Cookie noted that that would actually be a lot of work and would make a mess of the game code. So that's not an option either. :/

So yeah, it really is one way or the other.

It seems that I am alone in appreciating this change. Apart from the convenient game design aspects for the developers, I think it fits the tone of the art and setting better honestly since all of the animations are so clearly consensual. It also gives Kincaid more agency and strength as a character since the player will not be intentionally killing her all the time.

I also greatly appreciate that I don't have to intentionally lose to see the good stuff. Finding convenient places to die is always annoying to me in games like this.

One game that did an excellent job mixing defeat and player-activated scenes was Succubus Affection, but that game specifically had different sets of animations for each condition and you only unlocked the player-activated one after capturing the monster. Though, that definitely enters the 'doing both' scenario you said you wanted to avoid.

I will say though that, in the provided demo, the character sprites get duplicated whenever the slime and wolf animations finish (e.g. I have a controllable Kincaid and a 'getting stuffed' Kincaid both on screen).

Yeah, I had that one too. And one bug where the camera wouldn't zoom back out after sexy time.
But the prototype is just to show how the interaction between Domcaid and an enemy would be, so I don't think the prototype needs/is going to be fixed.

I just made a post on Patreon, suggesting a vote open to all Patreons.

While I am fine with both "Domcaid" and "Subcaid", I understand that both approaches are very different fetish-wise. Inevitibly, both options will be welcomed by one part of the supporters, but also shunned by the other.

I also think a poll should reflect the opinion of their Patreons more clearly, as the vote is anonymous and as simple as two mouse-clicks.

I don't like it personally. If they wanted this to reduce breaks in gameplay flow, this isn't it. Unless there's a sufficient benefit to actually going out of the way to dom down enemies, this will pretty much break the erotic content.

Because when you're getting into the flow of a platformer, you're not going to actively stop and activate a sex scene unless there's a benefit to doing so. This was fine when it was just contained to the pink Kobold village where you weren't in the middle of a level, but I don't see myself ever stopping to actually do this anywhere else in the game. That's what the grapple was there for, as a kind of a "You know what, why not? Lets see the scene."

Yeah but consider that all the supporters right up until that announcement decided to support a game where the erotic content was initiated by the enemies and not by the character. Maybe a portion of them are okay either way, but the game started out and got all its support with it already being one way.

That is a fair point, though one could argue that the scene itself is that incentive.

There are certainly ways that could be added as a functional gameplay mechanic though. Maybe doming a defeated enemy restores stamina or health a small amount or something similar that is transiently useful but not necessary for progression? I honestly see that as a more cohesive fusion of gameplay and porn than strategically dying because I have a locked gallery slot.

Since the actual animations are gonna be what they are either way, I would personally prefer the one that promotes better gameplay and cohesiveness.

How about an optional hardmode where if you leave too many enemies "hanging", the rest gets faster and stronger as the map's horny level increases?

I personally like this, but as Cookie already knows, both submissive Kincaid and Domcaid are fine with me. I certainly am happy that every enemy has their own individual "taunt" animation, instead of copy-pasting the same thing with just different dialogue.

you know, what did it looks like now in demo, kincaid and her friends, slim, kobold, werewolf, decided to play a game, they hide and play villains, kincaid has to find them, she pretends to be an archaeologist. It's more like a good bonus when you've already gone through everything and at the end they give you the opportunity to sleep with them and something new, for example, those sketches with poses that were not included with kobolds and werewolf, add more details, variability that would be good, but even so, I'm still against it.

Well then you should go with what you as developer adverticed the game with and earned money for.

I dont understand why even ask in the first place when its one way or another anyways. In that scenario no matter what you do some people wont be happy. So "one way or another" right now is more like "choose your poison" in which case you shouldnt ask others what to do its your game.

So yeah in my opinion keep the game as it is its what made you comes this far in the first place so why change it ?
