I see, it seems like you are a couple updates behind. You should be able to go to the uni and it will have a new option at the entrance. Looks like something went wrong when upgrading saves from a few versions ago.

Didn't like that there was only 1 version of the earth card so I used an online tool to add cum to it and saved it as the upgraded version. Why did I do that? ......because cum.

Can you tell me what and how did you do that? I am very curious and I would greatly appreciate learning something new

I was not expecting another update so soon but my question stands: I feel like the game keeps getting more and more difficult without giving me enough power boosts. Am I missing something? I can't get anywhere close to beating Laira at home

It can be tough if you don't do side content. One of the big ones is the shop quest - items enable different decks.
There are some spikes in difficulty, including side content. But they all should be more than manageable if you do other content first.
