Ren'Py - Completed - Knightly Passions [v1.34] [FEYADA]

The core game is decent to good. The game is one of the best looking 2D porn games of all time. Incredible artstyle and direction, decent world building and hot/unique character design. The card battle system is barebones but functional. The writing is a bit too verbose, but good, fleshing out the side characters and their personality. The sex animations are eh with the Live2D ones being good. Just wish that there's sounds and voice acting on sex scenes.

BUT, MY FUCKING GOD! IT'S FUCKING 3 YEARS AND WE STILL GET 30+ QUESTS & 20+ SEX SCENES?! THERE'S SO LITTLE CONTENT FOR A GAME IN DEVELOPMENT FOR 3 YEARS!

THE MAIN MISSING SISTER STORYLINE IS STILL STUCK ON THE ARACHNE QUEST?! WTF ARE THESE DEVS DOING IN THESE PAST 3 FUCKING YEARS?!

THEY STILL HAVEN'T FUCKING SETTLED ON THE CARD GAMEPLAY, MAKING REVISIONS AND CHANGES AT A SNAIL PACE! LIKE WHY?!

THE GAME AT ITS CURRENT STATE IS A WASTED POTENTIAL!

A great game crippled by the designers' blatant disregard for their players.

Most recently played the 0.46 version, which (again) required starting over as saves are incompatible. That was buggy, so checked and there was a bugfix 0.47 version...that was not compatible with saves from 0.46. They broke compatibility with a 0.01+ bugfix version.

That level of disregard on a game almost four years old is breathtaking. Instead of doing what conscientious game designers do and adding code to update saves, they simply lock out old saves. Bugs, on the other hand, throw exceptions and have an attractive screen telling players how to report them. It's telling that they prioritize tools to make up for their own lack of playtesting while not making tools to recover and update old saves.

The New Game + mechanism exists primarily to shift the burden of maintaining continuity to the player by making them memorize all of the quests they've done and skipping ahead. It's insulting and unhelpful because they've also added new content to older quests, so skipping actually misses some good story elements. Also, you can't load the old saves to see what you've done.

Apart from that, the game is polished and attractive.

Wait until it's finished to play. By 'finished,' I mean after the completed tag is on it, and the inevitable bug fixes are made, and people say they've completed the latest version without skips or other steps. Otherwise you will end up replaying it from the start again and again. Or getting disgusted, removing the saves (and shadow saves from the Roaming directory on Windows) and deleting the game.

Such an avoidable disappointment.

I absolutely love the game's characters, and the art style is just fantastic! I'm really excited to see what the game has in store for us next. Plus, the gameplay itself is so immersive and enjoyable. I'm having a blast playing it!

This is a pretty great game. But it's 2-3 stars at best UNTIL its finished. Saves break on update and this is a game with a quest/progression system - where you have to do them all over again. There is a system that allows you to start FROM certain quests, but it's not like you'll remember exactly what you did months ago to know where to go from, so you'll more than likely either miss quests or have to redo certain progressions because of the system, which is very unfun.

Will happily change review to 5 stars once its finished.

Felt compelled to write a review as I enjoyed the game so much. It’s not particularly filled with sexual content but I was kept playing by the beautiful character illustrations and clear task list. No need for a walkthrough, it’s all in game really.
Also the combat mechanic is well implemented. That was a surprise and another reason why I kept playing.

The visuals of the game are quite beautiful, I played it as soon as I saw it. The combat mechanism is also not bad, but it is very annoying to start the game from the beginning as the game's save system doesn't work in every update. Also the game is kinda grindy.

A truly great game with one fatal flaw, its coding.

The storyline is interesting, the characters are varied, the art style is original...

The gameplay, while a little grindy, is simplistic and intuitive. One of the few games that can justify a sandbox setting in my humble opinion.

The reason I rate it a 4 and not a 5 out 5 is because of the flaw I mentionned earlier.
It would be fine over the developpment of such a game to expect the message "old saves will not work" once or twice.
Problem is, this game is concerned by such an occurrence at almost EVERY. SINGLE. UPDATE.
This means that you're faced with the choice of either restarting from scratch (for each update) or using the new game+ feature which is not equal to having your own save with your own playthrough at all.

I personally choose the third option : drop it until either this particular issue is fixed or until the game is completed.
Truly too bad because it IS a good game but one that is chained by this very annoying default.

Though with all that being said, I still recommend it for newcomers that wonder if they should try it !

Worth it to play. Some of the best art on the site.

Developers still have yet to address the fundamental game design flaws. Gameplay often does not feel rewarding for as much as you can do.

This is due to how much story is in the game which is a plus but it's a huge distraction and the game isn't the most intuitive still but that has gotten better. This update.

TLDR:

Pros:
- Great art
- Great animations
- Great character designs
- Combat System Bugs Fixed/More Fluid
- Minigames in RenPy are impressive. A bit lacking but still impressive

Cons:
- This game should be in Unity. The use of RenPy feels like it's derailing the game's development schedule and its future goals.
- Incompatible saves. While cheats and gallery unlock are there, it's still irritable previous versions are incompatible. This is a design flaw that should be addressed and the answer is simple on the technical-level so the problem lies in the developers not accounting for this issue when initially developing the game. [I even built a small Unity VN library to test this out in the past week. Only feature I don't have is rollback]
- Too much story drop still. Story should be added with progressive scenes with characters. For example, rather than drop so much Nun lore from the witch, have the lore be dropped via talks with the blonde nun after every dream with a progressive scene of kissing -> tongue kissing -> fondling, etc. Now abstract this concept of slowly rewarding players to other parts of the game so it doesn't feel like huge lore dumps and the player is always getting something from their activities.
- Animations to CG art consistency is a bit wonky at times, especially with blonde nun.

This rating really hurts to give, because there is a good game here, somewhere. It's just buried beneath a mountain of trash.

First off, the good:
-The character design is great, though I wish the devs would lean a little harder into the fantasy aspect (and a little less hard into the nuns/priestesses)
-The dialogue is decent to good in places
-The sex scenes, at least most of them, at very nice looking and well done.

The bad:
-Holy shit this game will waste your time for even the tiniest drop of progress
-The card battle system just isn't that engaging for how much we're expected to do it. Please just let me skip it and get to the good parts without losing out on any rewards
-The story telling can be...dubious at best. I tend to forget what's happening with a character when I'm expected to grind wolves for half an hour between conversations
-It feels like we're getting less and less content as time goes by. I hope this is not a downward trend.

This could be an amazing game, if the developers cut out a lot of the mindless drivel between story segments, and maybe even reserved the battle system for important or impactful points in the game. This could easily be 4 stars, and quite possibly 5 stars if it just respected the player's time and effort a little more.

Amazing story, amazing arts, amazing everything!
Knightly Passions know how to make you anxious to every new release, the game is perfect. All characters have their personality, all quests make sense, and the combat is well equilized.

Honestly, the game is more 4 stars than 3. But i feel like the more the game have popularity and patreons, the less we see updates and the less they are good, several month for 20m of gameplay and 2 animations that are not even added in the gallery really feels like everytime the wait isn't worth the enjoyment.

So to speak about the game itself :

• Chara design : Amazing, the number one quality of the game
• Animations : Beautiful, but the models sometimes feels like they vary too much from the original drawing (boobs are bigger/smaller, body is different)
• Sex scenes : they integrate well in the story, almost no free sex
• Story/dialogues : Average
• Gameplay : Combat is a bit boring, but they keep improving it. Mini games are no fun.

Conclusion :
Could have been a great game but it is ruined by too few updates and a drop in the quality of thoses, feels really frustrating as they seem to have enough patreons to go full time on the project.

Come for it if you like the chara design and want some good animations in 2d.

Story: Great! I like the writing, characterization and world-building.
Originality: Good
Art quality: Great!
Animations: Pretty good. Could add more in some scenes though.
Sound: BGM is decent. SFX is acceptable, but feels like it's missing in some places.
Amount of content: ~10h. The game is clearly unfinished, but there's a decent amount of content to get through.

Overall, I still rate this 5 stars because the game shines due to its art/writing/worldbuilding.

The writing is quite poor. The gameplay loop is highly repetitive and mindless, you'll spend too much time grinding enemies (the auto-resolve feature is brain dead). The sex scenes are sparse and totally unsatisfactory. The artwork is inconsistent, a few scenes were not even colored and others appear simply unfinished.

A dreadful result.

Pros:

• Art-style, art quality and character designs are *chef kiss*
• Story is decent since this supposed to be a hentai VN. Character themselves are quite good. I really like the sisters, especially the redhead one.
• The hot sessions is really good, sometimes really kinky.

Cons:

• No MC customization other than stats and equipment, not even name changes. This is just a minor complain for me.
• Repetitive gameplay, fetch quests and boring minigames. Pretty common for VN, so this just a minor con.
• No freedom of approaching. I mean there is, but you will probably cause a character to die or you die yourself. So you have no choice but to select the option that let you progress the game.

Other than that this game is a must for everyone who wanted to play fantasy 2dcg type game. 8.5/10 experience. I think this game would benefit if the MC have a choice that impact his personality in the future.

If you basically want to feel systematically blue balled this is your game!
Almost no relevant scenes at this point but there are hell of a lot rpg mechanics, which are average at best.
And the mini games... God damn those mini games

Awesome! Drawing style is super, good game mechanics, I really enjoyed the game. A good amount of content, quite a lot of quests. The only comment - please make the quest with the carriage easier, passed the chase only 10 times.

Game basically consists of you grinding animals in a card battler. Which makes absolutely zero sense since you are supposed to look for your sister.
Characters are so cardboad it is painful. I can predict the entire sentence the moment they open their mouth. People just don't behave that way.
0/10, no immersion, uninteresting story, boring combat.

First of all i love the art style and gameplay. Im fond of card battle systems in games since they are engaging while not being a nuance. I love the scenes with pink elf and the nuns. It's only a shame we get new content so sparingly. The biggest issue I have is having to start all over every patch. It's a massive minus for otherwise great game

2.5 Stars, rounded down.

I have mixed feelings on this game. First, some pros:

+ Art is fantastic. Among the best 2d game art period. Crisp, emotive, detailed, etc. 10/10
+ Animations are also rather well done
+ Actual gameplay is cohesive and legitimately fun. Battling is a bit simple, but overall, all the systems from map to inventory to skills work seamlessly
+ Minigames are not too annoying and grinding amount needed is very reasonable

Now the cons that make this a 2.5 star experience:

- Absolutely glacial update pace. This was one of the first lewd games I played, literal years ago, yet from what I can remember there's basically only one more sex scene and no main plot progression compared to today's version. Granted, the art has gotten better and animations were included, but basically no more content.
- Very few lewd scenes. Like, it's supposed to be a porn game yet there are only a handful of scenes and they take quite a while to get. Basically there: there is just one extended scene with the elf and two with the nuns
- Unexpectedly dark and punishing storytelling at times. Like, even in the beginning the witch straight up fiat murders you if you select the wrong dialogue option and later on the elf comits semi-graphic suicide unless you chose to lie to her. Like wtf. I'm here to have fun and get off, not Deal with dead elves

Overall, I think this game could easily be a 4/5 or 5/5 if it just had more damn content, in both main-questline and lewd scenes, but judging by the existing update rate, I'm not getting my hopes up.
