If it was a generic add-on, even a tweaked one, mods and assets would have been added to it years ago, because it would mostly have been a question of configuration. But it took years for Sam to add them, probably because it made no sense to add the code for the "come from a different table source", before being sure that the generic code works as intended, then because there were way more important things to do before adding that feature.
Be also noted that for years the latest updates page wasn't even linked to the forum ; something too that point to a fully homemade feature.

The reason why it's not fully integrated into the forums is we decided to base it upon the planned redesign, but that was ultimately delayed due to irl stuff, Xenforo major version delays, and having to prioritize more important tasks. Now it's just soon(tm).
