At face value if the script didn't explicitly state that they where together you genuinely wouldn't know as there behaviours are not that of a couple

They're not a couple like you just wrote. She doesn't love him. Nobody in his right mind would say to his boyfriend or girlfriend, that only when the other is not around, they're the real deal. It's the unbelievable characters, and the writing therein. All of them claim to like the MC or be his friend - but are unrepentant, terrible pieces of shit to him regardless of his responses.

The artstyle the dev managed to coax out of the imagegen is really good. And the phone chat method for delivering a story hits my buttons mega hard for reasons I can't actually identify. That, along with the fact that the actual tension building up to reveals is pretty damn good is what drew me in - but the characters, man.

There has to be an actual ending to the story, and we're already seeing the narrative fall into a really, really stupid loop with the spineless/brainless MC being mistreated but thinking she still likes him, when all evidence indicates she's only still with him to satisfy her fetish for cheating and humiliation. I absolutely agree, the dev needs to choose a way to make things interesting if he plants on going for the long run. Cause currently it's not the case at all. This constant loop of brainless cheating isn't going anywhere. It doesn't progress the story in the slightest.
There has to be an actual ending, a closure, in the current state, it's just not working the way it should. The constant loop system of " she cheated again..that's new.." is not working. This type of visual novel works perfectly fine in a very short based story, in the long run it'll get very fast very boring and dull. And this is where we currently are.
