I'd run into the same issue if I did this.
Even Yumi, Io, Nodoka and Ami at their lowest, I wouldn't be able to put into the Kill tier.

I know, it is funny too cause she did what a "responsible" parent should do; compared to Sara who basically has offered her daughter to Akira.
You could maybe explain that on the fairly significant age diff Sana has on Rin.

What we do fault her for is the Selebus decision of ignoring Rika for basically forever and making her first significant event be cockblocking Rin and Akira, something we've been waiting for for years.

Oh I was talking about Rin being the only girl in the class where it was mentioned was skipped head a year and based on their birthdays, over a year younger than Sana. A year doesn't sound like much, but at that age is kind of significant.
I fully agree with your take on Sara and Rika; they come from 2 completely different worlds, and Sara also has known Akira longer.
As for Rika not searching Akira' phone, I'd like to think she just limited it to Rin's message history, and not snoop elsewhere. Especially if it seemed to be one-sided from Rin. Now, you would think there would be the dick pic that he was supposed to send Rin as punishment for trading for her nude. We don't know for sure he did end up sending it to her or not, but he likely would have deleted it from his history you would think.

I don't struggle with that, Rin was texting him, not the other way around, she doesn't suspect Akira, she panicked cause of the trouble Rin could get him in, she was only thinking of protecting him (and her, but not my point) and so he was completely innocent as far as she was thinking, invading his privacy was bad enough when it was about Rin, invading it altogether without any excuse would be far harder for me to believe given her characterization... now, i could believe her scrolling up to before what Rin was texting and seeing their conversation history, but lucky for him there was nothing compromising, thank fuck he didn't send her dickpics after she asked for them as compensation for stealing her nudes via Otoha...

I guess. You make some good points, given who Rika is and that she's also friends with Akira, and that she has messed their relationship once already.
But, again, if it were me there'd be no chance in hell I wouldn't scroll through the entire cellphone of a 30 year old dude that my 15 year old daughter sent a masturbation video to. Especially given that all girls seem to be smitten with him, and that he's their teacher.
It's way too suspicious already, and way too easy to simply look when you're already in their cellphone - there'd be literally no repercussion, he wouldn't be able to tell if she saw one or all of his messages.

I mean, I don't really think it's suspicious they're all smitten with him, that in itself isn't really weird. He's ostensibly attractive and also the only dude most of them know lol more to the point she's not part of his class and only really interacts with a few girls in the music club really, there's not much reason to think she knows they're all obsessed with him or anything.
All she really knows on that end is that Rin likes him a lot, and that Rin's not super rational or level-headed when it comes to that kind of thing. The format of the message was confessioney too so the context wouldn't make her think there was an ongoing thing happening but rather the opposite. And on top of that there's also the fact that she'd just pinched his phone real quick at a bar with him and some other mutual friends so it's not a great environment to be snooping through his whole phone, and then there's the privacy aspect which doesn't just apply to Sensei but all her other friends too - could be Sensei nudes on the phone, or Imani, personal stuff with her other friends, whatever
I'm not necessarily disagreeing mind but it doesn't really strain my suspension of disbelief to think she flicked through Rin's messages and headed right off in shock/panic to set her daughter straight.

She had his phone for a very long time. Both before and after the talk with Rin. At the very least for the rest of the night. I'm just saying I'd be more satisfied if there was an explanation of why she couldn't go beyond Rin's messages (like it died or she couldn't open it again because it locked after she exited the conversation).
When she has the talk with Akira, that could be the answer to his "did you look through my phone", Rika could have been like "no, your cellphone died. But I wouldn't anyway!" and such.
The whole thing is very forced tbh, Akira happens to leave his phone open on the exact moment Rin sends him the video and that Rika is just by to pick it up. Again, it's not like I'm putting forward it is bad writing, but it definitely isn't solid either. Usually these coincidences happen because they're a repeat of what has already happened, but for this one, idk. I feel like Rika could have had sex with Akira for other reasons than "better me than my daughter".

Two things:
One, i think you're not accounting for your bias enough, you know what Akira is, does she? If it hasn't even occurred to her to suspect something, she is an airhead after all, then wouldn't it be an illogical leap for her to go from 'my daughter is hitting on this guy' to 'and he's probably fucking his students!'... seems like an absurd leap to me, sure, some people might make it, but Rika?
Two, what did she do? She read it, freaked, and went straight for Rin, she wasn't thinking of Akira, she was in a panic and completely tunnel-visioned on her daughter... maybe she'd have thought to do it after, but i've been in situations aplenty where you get so hyperfocused on one thing that your eyes may as well be pinhole cameras...
Edit: actually, a third... i don't think you're accounting for the fact that some people really do just respect each others privacy, either due to disinterest or honor. I can understand the urge to snoop, but i've long had the impression that most people feel that urge far far stronger than i ever have.

Honestly all it would take would be a mention of an auto lock or something. She read the message and it popped up on the notification screen and then she couldn't view any more. Regardless, the effect of the scene works for it's intended purpose imo

Your disbelief i think is mostly just based on you being differently minded Mooney, you'd snoop, so you can't understand someone who wouldn't, it seems absurd to you. That's ok, i'm not judging... though i wouldn't leave my phone unlocked around you

I get that it's a joke, but I'm a very respectful person. I don't go snooping around people's phones, and more often than not I tend to keep to myself and not involve myself in other people's issues. The reason I bring this up is that this isn't that simple of a matter.
This isn't a huge thing for me, but it's one of those things that I, as a reader, have to take at face value and just accept that Rika and Rie chose to act as big dumb dumbs this time.

I agree that in a realistic scenario Akira would be found out in that situation and tbh narratively I think we all feel the shoe is going to drop sooner or later. This would probably be a great time for it to happen in some respects, but Bingoogus is right that for Rika in particular I'm willing to suspend my disbelief that she just blindly trusts Akira here.

She'd never suspect Akira of wrongdoing, he's the one that showed her the ropes.
