Okay so I just caught up to maybe 600-700 posts worth of content, good posts by many people.

My turn to pose a question: does Sel genuinely think Death Ball is funny? Does anyone? Maybe his sycophants that believe he can do no wrong? I just find it so horribly unfunny and try-hard that it seems weird. Like "lol I'm so random look at my spork" when everyone else is :HideThePain: at it.
I actually loved the first Death Ball event. The rehash, not so much, but the punchline did make me chuckle.

But absurdist fiction isn't everyone's cup of tea.

Unfunny because too much is going on (hence the try-harding feeling as well), but for me Death Ball finally redeemed itself by managing to terrorize Ami Prime.

I also have shame for giggling at your spork comment. God fucking damnit.

What made the first death ball enjoyable was the documentary that went along with it. The second was just boring. And the same could be said about the other events from this Dorm Wars. The only Dorm Wars event that I enjoyed was the Tsuneyo and Yumi bodyguard event. Yumi and Tsuneyo bouncing off of each other was genuine comedy gold and how Noriko won the event was hilarious. In retrospect Beach Wars is probably the best Dorm Wars we've had thus far.

Theology and religion in LiL feels caricaturistic to the extent of being very artificial against the backdrop of surrounding arguments. You are quite right with Akira doing mental gymnastics and poking nonsequitous holes on religion to revoke religion doctrines forced upon him. Like a child thinking of all sorts of illogical and laughable arguments in mind to oppose everything parents said to him. That way, nothing serious would come out of it and it slowly becomes a paranoid rabbit hole. Like all the minor "gods" or whatever creatures we saw in Ch.4.

Or, it's just that Sel is bad at theology and profound thinking. Alright but it's something I didn't want to believe. He didn't get to level of the usual Japanese creators after all.

I think the second death ball event was just a "fuck you" to the people that didn't like the last dorm wars. There were a couple of mentions on how it was not well received by people. And what did people complain mostly about? Death ball, no sensei, Good Kid and too much yuri.

So we got another death ball event, where sensei flees, with Good Kid's music on the background that ends with a yuri kiss. Just Selly things...

I didn't mind the second Death Ball honestly, it's not my kind of humour but a couple moments got a chuckle and it was nice and short so didn't really bother me.

I love that people were doing a deep read of it and trying to psychoanalyze Sel's kinks via the line about "the reason for existing is lesbians" when the reality is Sel is just a troll who loves to antagonize his critics.

My big issue with this dorm wars, if we isolate the general feeling of coming from a FanFest + break and followed by another break, is that it feels like a FanFest.

I'm not saying everything had to be dramatic and realistic, but I feel like it took Imani's dormwars and built upon it by making it even more absurd, when I would have liked it to become more in tone with the previous ones.

Edit: Again, maybe it's because it followed a FanFest. Maybe if someone just played LiL back to back it wouldn't be a problem and even a welcomed funny break in the midst of it all. It just didn't feel that way playing it as it came out.

I swear to GOD, if Imani is somehow the reason these dorm wars have been too absurd I'll lose my shit.

Now I wonder what's Sel's yuri benchmark. Also I'd be very interested (like, Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere 800 page for-editor-only summary of the worldbuilding (yes, that was a thing, the editor cried)) in how yuri LiL would've even worked.

I think it’s fair to say that a reader starting after everything is finished could have a different opinion than us in the moment, but let’s be real here:

LiL is a serialized story.

So while it may be different at some finished point when it’s fully out and done, it primarily exists as a serialized story with the expectations associated with that. Namely, while the whole composite work needs to be good, so do the individual updates. People are paying monthly, so month to month it needs to maintain clarity as a whole work and a serial work simultaneously. So I don’t buy the idea that it can’t be judged as a serial work since it’s still “early access” or whatever equivalent apologists might say.

So if it’s, as you so correctly say, a fanfest followed by a dorm wars followed by a break, that’s a fair criticism to make irrespective of whether or not it will one day be complete.

In the moment, as a serial work, for some people like us, it feels kinda shitty. So I just hope it improves sooner rather than later.

I see this and all I can think is that "he's trying a little too hard" to make it seem like he likes yuri.
I'm not saying it's not possible, but it seems so forced it's almost funny. And I'm not an expert in this area, so I could be wrong, and the guy is actually quite an expert, but I'd say Selebus has even toned down the yuri level in the game a bit now. I hope it stays that way.

I forgot it was a 2-month break so when I came back to check for any previews I got very sad.
In any case now that I'm back, I just thought about Sensei and now feel like writing something

TL;DR: Sensei needs to unironically LOCK IN and get on that GRINDSET.
btw I was actually only going to comment something along the lines off "Sensei is tired of living consequence-free, and he wants someone to make him take responsibility, but he isn't personally doing anything to better(worsen?) his current status" and now I realize it has been 2 hours and I have been rambling like a madman

This is why I normally refuse to come here unless necessary or after an update, I just can't shut my fucking mouth.

So I've finally hit Noriko's introduction, and it got me thinking; I actually really like how she is used to set up and then subvert expectations.

For example, personality-wise you get this very off base impression of her as a very played out boring yandere stalker type. But as you get to know her it turns out that no, actually, she's just a very weird sweetheart punk. Her obsession with Akira is weird and does get occasionally played for yandere-esque goofs like her weird ass relationship with Kirin early on, but I've always had the sense she and the game were playing that up and she probably never actually intended to hurt Kirin (I think that also might get stated plainly)

And the other Subversion, but this might have been mostly a me thing, comes with her relationship with Maya. You get a lot of very weird esoteric stuff mentioned, and without context, it seems like Noriko might actually be tied up in all the weird supernatural stuff like Maya is. Like their apparent pact to never enter eachother's half of the city. Considering all the stuff set up with the Old District early on, it's easy to start drawing lines to Noriko and the weirdness of that part of town. And then no, actually, it turns out it was just a childish agreement they made as kids that Maya just takes weirdly seriously, which actually winds up saying more about Maya than it does Noriko. Dig further, and it also seems like a lot of Maya's accusations about Noriko might be Confessions. Noriko actually winds up to be an actually normal teenager that Maya just has insane beef with due to her cocktail of insecurities and fear of Akira's memory resetting.

I think it's just interesting. The game did a really good job misleading me with her character and I'm glad it did because I like real Noriko a lot more than my assumptions about her. I also like how she cucks Kirin's class introduction. That's pretty funny as part of their overarching narrative.
