If there is one thing that I genuinely don’t like in the more recent dorm wars, it’s how certain developments, which are worthy enough to receive their own proper updates, get criminally abridged so that they could be forcefully stuffed into dorm wars’ tight formats. Io’s date, Rin’s date, Touka having more balls than Sensei when it comes to standing ground against Ami, etc. All of those push the story forward and would benefit from some proper initiations and endings, just like what he does in any other regular update. However, being just “half of the content in one of the tenth competitions” and being “somewhat equivalent to Death Ball” make them not as impactful; there are all here for floor points that serve no purpose.

Seriously, Selly should really consider giving up on dorm wars at this point when it is no longer the best form to push out some developments relevant to the current chapter themes, and when it isn’t really bringing much new to the table (look at how many reused contests there are in the 5th one! How many of them interest you?!). Just let the girls hang out without all the rambunctiousness…like, I really don’t mind the awkward unfunniness at the end of the day since somebody else might’ve laughed at it, but using dorm wars to hinder story advancement and the feeling of “whelp another month of probably no progress” leaves an awful aftertaste.




Edit: even normie DnD is quite worthy of a full fledged session and doesn’t need to be a part of a contest (Kirin trying to fuck magic hand is pretty hilarious); would love to see bunch of normies being goof with dices.

I'm not sure if Rin's or Io's dates needed more to them. They did each get a full event for their time together; similar to the previous dorm war dates. And both girls have a lot more growth available in their relationships with Akira, so I see it as more of a move the story along opposed to a start/end like thing. Could they have been like mini events, like Chika's Onsen, or Maya's birthday? That may have been too much, unless it was really pushing each of their relationshjips with Akria to the top of the pile.

Touka vs Ami, that I dont see going away quickly. That was more of a jump off point and I'm interested in seeing how that progresses. Now, did it have to happen in a dorm wars event; no it could have been in like a generic class room one where they get into a disagreement to hit it off, but it doesn't not fit to me.

All 3 kinda highlight what I expect from things like Dorm Wars and the Beach trip. Move some things along a little, give other stories a bit of a kick off so they don't come out of nowhere, and put some combos or girls together who normally don't interact. And forcing the various sub stories to somewhat converge so you dont end up with like 50 different variables

Oh and Death Ball. I thought I was bad the 1st time, and was not looking forward to it the 2nd. Actually laughed a bit this time, but would be perfectly fine with never seeing it again

With me, I’ll go through waves where I play the game a ton, then drop it for months and disappear. Then come back, repeat process. Always been like that with LiL.

I do try to stay caught up on the forum here though, as long as I’m not worried about spoilers. So many peeps consistently expanding and improving my understanding of the game. And some folks making me laugh. It’s a good time; a throwback to simpler forum based internet nostalgia for me.

I was rewatching it here, and Akira, at the beginning of Io's event, literally destroys the fourth wall completely, asking who we are, who he's been talking to all this time, about how we know everything about him and he knows nothing about us, and then there's Rin's event where he literally blocks us from seeing more about their kiss.

Does this mean that we should take into consideration that we are part of the world of Lessons in Love as an entity inside Akira's head? I could be wrong, but I think that of all the characters, he's the only one who spoke to us, the player. The gods speak more to Akira and not to us, so we would be an entity that only Akira knows exists and can speak to, or am I overthinking it?

There has been enough foreshadowing that it is a viable theory. The issue is Selebus himself. In a few words, he has been throwing evidence to all sorts of interpretations for years.

There are tons of examples, but where I'm going with this is that when it's well done (imo) every piece of evidence fits together towards a satisfying end. I'm not convinced that will be case for LiL at all. Rather, I'd throw the recent hand to camera as yet another flight of fancy from Selebus rather than evidence of anything.

It's likely that at the end there will be a few pieces of evidence scattered through the chapters, but the majority of it all will fall under a gigantic (and very convenient for Selebus) "misdirection umbrella".

I'd say likely not. Breaking the 4th wall has been occurring all the time and is even directly called out back in Chapter 2

Fair point, but also, being self aware doesn’t make something therefore acceptable.

“He’s right behind me, isn’t he?” is now a joke beyond reason, yet it won’t stop movie makers from putting it in with “a wink and a nod.” It’s still shit at the end of the day. Parody is no longer parody when it has nothing insightful to say, and that above quote with Tsuneyo reads more like a condescending dig than anything meaningful when discussing the concept of 4th wall breaking. He’s just mad people call him out for it, so he’s taking a shot at his PAYING customers.

My opinion at least. At the same time, it doesn’t inherently break LiL. But whenever I see some trope being used, my first question is “why is this being used and what does it try to say by using said trope?”

There's enough that you should pay attention to it, but probably don't invest into it being relevant yet. Akira knowingly narrates the game, chooses the events to show you, can be woken up by the camera coming back to him from another girl's event and is aware of the affection system, having narrated it a bunch of times.

I understand that Maya says that Akira is the only person she has ever felt anything for and is madly in love with him. But people can interpret her love for Ami differently. I interpret it as friendship, but this game has several interpretations.

I agree with you, like in the scene where she wants to know where Akira is during the dorms war and asks Ami. She lied about basically everything there, including confessing to Akira when she finds him at the shrine.
And Maya from Ayane's timeline in the last reset reveals that she has already had a threesome with all the girls in the room (with Akira).

So I believe the most plausible answer is that she feels a best friend's love for Ami, but she'd fuck her (as she fuck with all the other girls along with Akira).
The game makes it clear that Akira is the love/soulmate of Maya's life and Maya is the love/soulmate of Akira's life. Nothing destroyed Akira more than Maya's reset. Regardless of the fact that he also says he loves the other girls and sleeps with them, the dialogues make it very clear that it is Maya that he would choose to spend the rest of his life with if it were an option.
