My guess is that, as usual, Selebus didn't think this through.
On one hand, Himawari seems to imitate what she knows about the person, like with Touka and Sana. Which is why people can tell them apart. I'd highly doubt that if she was actually channeling their own thoughts anyone would be able to tell the difference.
And yet, much earlier when she explains why she doesn't channel Nodoka's mind, or that she dislikes "feeling what her mom feels" by getting her form, implies that she actually channels their minds.
So, which one is it? Because during the reset quiz she clearly channels each person's thoughts, thus we'd have to assume it's actually the channeling that's true. Could she be lying to Akira about it being only his perception? (or Tsubasa's, and Nodoka's?)
Back to Selebus not thinking this through. I don't mean that he didn't think about it because he's dumb, but maybe because he's lazy. And thus he just decided that Himawari can do either. Sometimes she channels people's thoughts, and sometimes she just messes with their perception. Basically, whatever Selebus needs to happen does. As it is with everything else.

My interpretation is that Himawari essentially "loads a character", obtaining both their forms and inventories (aka what characters know and feel, and even speaking patterns), but it's still her behind the keyboard at the end of the day and it's up to her acting/understanding/perception tampering skills to make everything look seamless, or it's up to her to decide whether being a seamless imposter is needed. In the case of Nodoka, my understanding has always been that this is a mere showcase of Himawari's capability for both Sensei and readers, and thus it is not necessary to pull out a spotless cosplay as well as impersonation.
Though her impersonation does fail some times, I do believe that Himawari does obtain what a character knows when she become them. Examples of Sana and Ayane are subtle, but a more noticeable example would be the entire reset5. Himawari being the fact checker for multiple girls is only made possible by becoming them. This is more apparent when Himawari initially refuses to be Ayane, saying that "Just read those (cards) and go without a fact checker".
For Yumi and Tsuneyo, one could say those knowledge could simply be obtained by being a good trans-dimensional spectator, including Yumi secretly masturbating to Sensei. However, that shouldn't be the case of Maya Prime. When being Maya Prime, Himawari is quite clearly overwhelmed by whatever is going on in Maya's head, implying that at that moment, Himawari does have access to what Maya Prime's been through; memories and experiences alike.

I mean, assuming someone's memories/thought patterns wouldn't necessarily mean you would automatically be able to perfectly imitate them I don't think, she's still got her own memories and her own actual personality on top of someone else's, sounds tricky as fuck lol
Honestly I just assumed her perception comment to Akira was her giving a super simplistic explanation because it's going into territory she has to steer clear from, and/or she just wanted to move past it and enjoy a brief moment talking to her dad as herself as best she could. And on a writing end obviously at that point Sel probably wouldn't want to get into specifics regardless of whether or not he'd thought it out properly.

Speaking of Ami2, didn't she tell Ayane in the last beach event that she doesn't know what the resets were, only to then be involved in the latest one? My memory may be way off.

I thought she was aware something happens in those times, but to her perception from outside those are not something to be called "resets".
Someone from here was saying resets are not time travel but jumping from one plane from another.
Thats why Ayane and Alternate Maya's timeline doesnt add up. (Alternate Maya had 4 consecutive soft reset compared to OG Maya's 2)
Since next update is focused on Ayane, we may learn about how Himawari operates.

I am really looking forward to the Ayane events. She is mostly my #3 but I think I have to say she has been #1 in chapter 4. If good things happened with Niki I forgot it and Nu Maya went no where. What a waste of that great xmas event and what a bummer the scarf stuff was nothing. Maybe we will get more info about it later but yeah, a let down. Anyway, my predictions are usually wrong but I feel Ayane will escape but then go back in voluntarily to help save everyone.

Idk if there's two Ami's or not but whoever we have definitely knows of them.
Lots of comments about it, an ability to not loop her words when its brought up, almost straight up admitting to it in the red route Nodoka threesome scene, the aforementioned dress image, intentionally triggering a reset, fucking with Maya in a reset.

I’ve been following it for many years, but the direction the game has taken really disappointed me... the only reason I’m still around is because I got too attached to the characters and can’t bring myself to say goodbye to them lol

It did start getting confusing after a while who you meant by Ami2. I don't recall Himawari specifically mentioning resets before this update but she made at least one passing remark about them before talking about the factory reset.
And Ami has explicitly talked about the resets only after the Maya torture. Before then it was a bunch of other things instead. At the start of that halloween chain she's even asking Maya a bunch of questions that sounded like she had just gotten there and was trying to find out for herself where in time she was, even though it was framed as trying to pry information out of Maya and that Maya lies a lot.
The Sekai dress seems to be Sekai rather than someone else wearing it, if only because it doesn't look weird like I'd imagine it would if it was someone else wearing it.
