So what do you think Akira's wish actually was? We know Maya is the result of it, but what was the actual wish?

"I wish someone could make the pain stop"
"I wish Ami had a friend her age"

Did he actually wish for a living fucktoy like he thinks, or was his wish more wholesome, and his trauma corrupted it after the fact?

I'm a bit more worried that while this update was well written and heartwarming, I don't know if the theory/lore part of it will be able to stand up still. Feels like posters in this thread are already poking holes in explanations given by Himawari, and that while it seemed clear while I was reading it, it doesn't specifically do that under scrutiny
People imagine plot and then call new information a hole when it contradicts their imagination, like it always have been. As moonflare said, so far plot is too simple to have an actual flaw. It is supported by clues starting from pre-rework RWC (Sensei says, that he thought that maya is a dream girl), so it's easy to assume that it doesnt contradict anything selebus actually put into game.

Just start thinking that whatever contradicts new update content is either wrong or a minor plot hole itself

Does it matter? I don't sure yet that it was even "wish" wish, it might have been done the same way he created pareidolia later.

I can even assume that Maya he got was "locked" inside his head, like a proper imaginary friend would do; and he just fucked watermelons like in "Everything is Connected". It feels in line with how absurd what happen was from Himawari's perspective.
Maya's wish in this case could just be "I wan to be a real girl".

maybe a mix? Akira by that point had a bizarre idea of love in a mix of "savior" and "abuser". Maya isn't just a fucktoy that's also the same age he was when Sekai started abusing/saving him - she's him.

(apparently all it takes to stop being a predator is to knock up a teenager and run off with her!)

e: whoops meant asexual-Noriko
I disagree with this sentence. Because what happens is so far from this.

The 0.53 update made it possible for Akira to eventually become the person we later see in Aomori.

This is why I am hopeful for the future of both the game as a story and Akira as a character.

This is probably why so many people liked it.

ngl the whole really fucked up...but still getting glimpses of hope is making me wanna read PLIS again. Only webnovel I've read that's as screwed up as this one, just a shame it wasn't finished. Starts way way darker though. I'm curious to see whether Akira gets his shit together in this, and how he gets it together. But I'm a sucker for misfits getting together and healing their mutual traumas... rather than spiralling off of each other and making each other worse.

On the Ami thing, there are so many replies I won't link any of them - but I did read them all.

I don't really believe in this tbh, but since we're throwing theories out there...
This is the idea I was trying to suggest in my previous post, though like you I think it's a possibility but not particularly likely. After that post I did think of one more potential clue: Ami allegedly killed four people and dismembered two of them. There's blood everywhere in that room, and yet somehow there isn't a single drop on Ami's body. Could that mean this Ami wasn't there when the butchering happened? Of course the more reasonable answer is it's just an oversight/laziness from Sel.

I think he wished "For someone I can love and understand" or something along those lines. I don't think he understood what love was, and his only "concrete" example in his fucked up worldview after a lifetime of being abused is Sekai. I think she was the closest thing he could point to as "love". So he wanted to see what she felt, what it was like to "save" someone.

Maya's wish in this case could just be "I wan to be a real girl".
So Akira's name could be "Geppetto" instead.

You gotta love when a shit post turns out to be true :ROFLMAO:
Whaddahell? I was wondering why my old ass post was suddenly getting votes again.

So Past Me apparently spoilered myself, great work. I'm three updated behind folks, I haven't read a single post (except for Moonflare's event check posts <3) in this thread for months in fear of spoilers, I will report back once I'm done with the November update.
Missed you guys, much love.

I think Maya is so reluctant and self hating because she knows THE Akira isnt supposed to be here in her world, which is why she says she has the "worst luck in the world". Maybe that theory of choosing Maya or Himawari at the end is right? She withholds secrets because she can imagine what the endgame is, a choice between her being wiped from existence and THE Akira going away.

So Maya drags is out, and tries to repress it all. This directly leads to her rooftop ending.
I'm still cooking on parts of this idea since I'm at the start of a new playthrough where I get to see some of the hints again, but I think our Akira and our Maya are the actual people who made their wishes, and aren't just copies of it while the originals were left behind (at least one wasn't). Or at the very least the Prime mayas has some reason to remember from the beginning and Akira pre-wish instead of having fake histories like Nu Maya did.

The narration of the intro reads like Akira was long dormant and being moved into the light by Himawari (bootstrapping herself after Moonflare's theory) into a world that was wished into existence with wish copies of Akira that just weren't him. Everyone else becomes slightly different which is fine for everyone else but not for Maya who remembers the original, and she pledges to search forever for her true love which doesn't happen on its own. I'm assuming the unluckiest person in the world is due to her finding out about being able to make a wish, and accidentally creating a wish where she made it impossible to get the thing she wished for (without outside intervention)

So what do you think Akira's wish actually was? We know Maya is the result of it, but what was the actual wish?

"I wish someone could make the pain stop"
"I wish Ami had a friend her age"

Did he actually wish for a living fucktoy like he thinks, or was his wish more wholesome, and his trauma corrupted it after the fact?
low tier wish "I want a doll to stop me doing the things I might want to do to Ami"

top tier wish "I wish for someone who can make me feel whole again" after he was freshly traumatized by Sekai and freshly lost her.

I doubt there's a wish ajudication council who ensures wishes are fufilled to gramattical correctness and instead are granted based on the wisher's experience, otherwise Himawari would have popped into existence right then and there, or at least the knowledge of how to reach a future with her.

Instead he gets someone to feed into the experience that Sekai created, and she's the one making the advances despite being as young as Akira was. Not someone to fix him, but keep him in the happy space he found. That's why both of them break down every now and then and the other nurses them back to health.

Okay, I've been absolutely dead wrong about all my theorycrafting I've done so far (though there is still a possibility that Nodoka's not supposed to be here), but this update has had the most transparent language in a while that's so intriguing that I'm ready to be dead wrong again:

In any rate, 10/10 update. Absolutely loved every part of it, and I'm really bummed that it's gonna be a long while before we see Himawari again. The single cutest thing she did was when she thought Geoffrey was ringing the doorbell, she went:
