I've been using Linux as a daily driver for a little while, only using my Win10 machine for eroge and other games. But with Win10 ending support soon (and I'm unwilling to switch to Win11) I figure now's the time to make the switch completely. So you Linux users, what has your eroge playing experience been like?

It would be great if everything I play could run natively on Linux, but now that I think about it, I guess a VM/emulator for Win10 is also an option? I'm curious to hear your solutions.

Everything runs smoothly most of the time, whether using native versions or through wine/proton. In some cases, you can play natively even without developer support (renpy games and others distributed with nwjs, for example).

Unless you can get a performance boost using windows 11 on this gaming machine, I would recommend simply and sticking with 10.

Most games have native Linux support, those who don't can be added locally to Steam and you can run them with proton. For everything else, you can use wine or if it doesn't work,

In short, at present, you don't miss out on anything by having Linux only. The only exception are a few online games.

Should work for everything. Steam lets you select which proton version to use to run a specific game... I have an old game (VTMB) which only runs with a specific (and old) proton version, won't work with the others. I think it's only a matter of trying which version runs it, but glad you found another solution.

Beware that, depending on the origin of these games, playing them directly from steam can be a security risk to your account, just as steam games themselves can come infected with malware and should be kept isolated with a sandbox, or at least using a separate user account that does not have administrative privileges.

Regarding compatibility, it has become very good in recent years, but it's far from perfect. It's necessary to check databases like to get a better idea of each case.

okay found a solution for those: https://f95zone.to/threads/run-rpgm-on-linux.238466/
wild that this is the only place i found good answers and a solution. But then again this is how i found about the 7zip vulnerability... gotta add f95zone to my search results like some people do with reddit now lol.
Another good option, including for Japanese games, is Bottles.
