Intro
Hi, I have been a game dev and a player, I always felt there is some friction when it comes to play AVNs.
Downloading game zip files, requesting for compressed/mobile versions, managing device storage space, keeping save files secure, etc.
The day I found we can create web ports, I built this platform called LewdFlix.

What is LewdFlix?
It is an online platform that allows you to play adult games directly in your browser.
Think Netflix, but for adult games. No more struggling with downloads or tech specs.
Just pick a game and start playing – it's that simple!

Features
- Cross Platform (Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, Linux)
Basically any device with a modern web browser.

- No heavy installation/downloading required.

- Apply mods/cheats/patches directly (always optional).

- Save files are stored in cloud.
(continue the progress from any device).

- Live translations. (It's WIP)

- Always virus-free, as web build runs in sandbox env.

Is it free?

Is it free?
For the time being, everything is accessible for free without ads.
But this is something I am still trying to figure out. Here are the options I am planning.

a) All games will be freely available to play but with ads.
For subscribed users, it will be ad free.
b) 65% games will be freely available. 35% games will require
a subscription plan. No ads.

Subscriptions will be managed through Patreon.
This is required to cover the cost of servers and bandwidth.
And obviously, you'll pay royalties to the devs, because you aren't at all a dick that try to make money on their back, right ?

I got permissions to upload from few devs, others just ignored.
You've got major titles like BaDIK on your platform, which I'm sure is without permission.

The minute DPC or any of the other devs who didn't give permission find out about your platform, they're going to report it to Patreon & you account will be suspended.

Stick to those you have permission for or don't use Patreon.

Yay! Paying for pirated content!
Who doesn't like that?

Oh wait, nobody likes that!
It's one thing to offer pirated content, but a whole other thing to demand money for it.

I got permissions to upload from few devs, others just ignored. I am exploring all possibilities.
Just the permission to upload or a explicit permission to make money from their content without paying them royalties?
Or will the 35% games be those who you are allowed to "stream" and therefore have to pay the devs?

That will hinder your project greatly. You are aware of that right?
Stick to those you have permission for or don't use Patreon.
I selected patreon because this is what people have been using and have trust on. They definitely won't like to make a payment on unknown platform.

I implemented the subscription system when I had no plans for piracy.
But I got your point, Patreon will get suspended for sure.

From very beginning, I was clear that I had to take permissions to publish games and I created the platform accordingly, making it as polished as I can.
But majority of devs don't have their email publicly listed and they don't want to respond to a random DM on Discord.

Going with the piracy route, it's hard to make the project sustainable without proper monetization plan. So I am still exploring what could be the best solution.
Ads is what I can implement any day but may be people like to pay 2$ a month to get ad-free experience. But anyways Patreon will make it much harder to do so.

It will be hard to get devs to agree to offer their games for free when they officially sell them elsewhere.
Why? Because it comes with a lot of implications about legality, rights, agreeing to free distribution, supporting or officially accepting piracy etc.
That's why many games here on F95zone have this:

Going with the piracy route, it's hard to make the project sustainable without proper monetization plan.
That goes without saying, running a website with huge bandwidth demand is expansive.

My point wasn't about demending money for the service you offer (which you have every right to ask for money), but for demanding money for accessing content you don't have the rights to. And for this it doesn't really matter if this is just to offer an ad-free experience and to pay the server bills.
Also it's about the devs knowing their content is behind a paywall they won't get a share of.

I know it sounds like hypocrisy from a pirate, but most pirates draw the line once people try to make money off of other people's content (ads doesn't count, because there is no actuall paying money involed and secondly: adblocker).

It would be another thing if users pay more than the 2$.
And in return, the devs receive a share of the subscription fee. However, this should be proportionate to the games played and the playing time. Furthermore this needs to be calculated individually for each subscriber.
But than again this would require legally binding contracts and you'll need to restrain from pirated content, because the devs would kinda supporting piracy.

Hey, I appreciate you sharing your thoughts.
I'm thinking of going with the first option - making all content freely available as it is, just implementing ads. Maybe offering additional features like cloud saves and ad-free experience for a nominal fee. Or maybe offering these too for free and starting to accept donations.

You probably didn't really consider the whole implication of piracy and making money from distributing pirated content when coming up with the idea. You probably just wanted to make some cool netflix thing for porn games.

But like everyone else is saying, there is an ethical concern even for pirates. Selling other people's work without permission doesn't sit well with most people. And there is the legal ramifications you open yourself to.

Presumably, the thing will be unsustainable without a payment plan. I'm not an expert on the technical side of things, but it's not like you can maintain the site through ads, I think. Since those games need to be hosted on your own server, that would certainly drive up costs to run the site.

As you have experienced, coming up with a business plan is gonna be hard. How can netflix acquire the rights to all those countless movies? They are a huge fucking company working in an established industry. You are a single person working in a non-existent industry consisting of indie porn devs from all over the world. You need binding contracts for the distribution rights, but what kinda random porn dev would even bother? And even if the other parties were interested, negotiating and pursing the contracts will take time/effort/money on your part.

It's too soon for your idea. Maybe once, or if, the industry of adult porn games become an established form of entertainment, you can try again.

Quite a few problems to solve.

However I do think there is value in such platform, it would be worth paying for convience and smooth netflix like service for AVN.

Just to inform everyone, I've chosen the piracy route, making all games and features available for free. I will add some banners or skip ads to cover the cost of servers (definitely not pop ads). I might set up a donation page if ad revenue is not enough for covering the costs.

The funny thing is it's even worse to play in browser if you have a bad internet connection, waiting for the current image while looking at the pixelated version of it. Not even talk about you need to wait for a while to download some data to start the game.

Also, the games you can add your website are visual novels, so tech specs are not important either.

I think it's a lot better to create a similar site to this one but:

1. More focused to adult games/animations/comics/writing etc... and screw forum parts
2. For games, download links are good. For other things, it's a lot better to reach the content in the site, which you can't really do in this site. ( You need to download 5gb folder to find 5-10 good renders etc... )
3. Add restricted titles which this site is banning.

If you can do that these things, you can survive with "ads".

The download is only around 10-30 MB, and it happens only once.

Then I suppose those users can't watch YouTube videos without buffering either.

Nope, can watch videos in 1080p but still pixelated.
And doing the same thing with your site and both of them have the same issues.
Have you tried playing on LewdFlix?
Except sandbox games, almost all VNs uses our player's prediction mechanism which load images in advance.
