License type for 3D models and where to find higher quality ones

Hello, guys.

I am starting to make my own Ren'Py Visual Novel and I would love to know if you guys could help me out with a basic question. Do I need Standard Licenses or Extended Licenses to make use of the images? Of course, I might be opening a Patreon and I have read that the Standard License allows you to make use of models (household items, environments and non-character related models) as renders and animations. However, these are definitely going to be used in a game, which is said to require an Extended License. Although the answer may be obvious at this point, I would still like to know from you guys. I'm unsure about the Daz Shop too. Apparently every "Extended License", which is apparently called Interactive License at their website, is $50 for everything, which is quite a lot.

Plus, do you guys have any tips on where to find higher quality models? I looked around Renderosity and Daz Shop but maybe there's more to it.

Thanks in advance!

Interactive License is needed if you use the models in a real time 3D game. This is the case if you want to create a character in 3D which the player can move around in a game (Unreal, Unity, ...)

The standard one is used for renders, just images you display on Ren'Py.

i dont know why you think character models would not be covered by the standard license but they are

Even if I make simple animations in the .webp format? Is that also covered by the Standard License?

All images/animations are covered by the Standard License. Only if you use the geometry (Mesh, Textures) in real time 3D games you need the extended one.

Sounds good, Winterfire!

About Daz Shop, it allows me to choose between Interactive License and 3D Printing License. Is the Standard License included by simply purchasing it?

Yes. Everything purchased from the Daz store is automatically covered by the Standard License. The only time this isn't the case is when a they specify a different license.

You can look other all the different licenses available on the Daz Store , but I'll copy over the relavent section from the Standard License for you.

Standard License said:
Terms of Use. Two-Dimensional Works. Subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement, User may (i) access, use, copy and modify the Content in the creation and presentation of two-dimensional animations and renderings, (ii) incorporate two-dimensional images (including two-dimensional images that simulate motion of three-dimensional objects) derived by User from the Content in User's other works, and (iii) publish, market, distribute, transfer, sell or sublicense User's two-dimensional animations, renderings and other works; provided that User may not in any case publish, market, distribute, transfer, sell or sublicense any renderings, animations, software applications, data or any other product from which any Content, or any part thereof, or any substantially similar version of the Content can be separately exported, extracted or de-compiled into any re-distributable form or format.
The bolded text is what you're ultimately looking for. Under this license, you are free to make whatever render or animation you want, as well as include that render in your commercial product such as a VN.

Thank you for taking your time to copy that over.

Do you have any tips on any other stores such as the Daz Shop? I'm aware that there's Renderosity and Renderotica but are there any other good websites to purchase stuff as well?

That's going to really depend on what it is you're looking for, and you're baseline of what constitutes "quality".

If it's anything character-related, such as pre-made characters, morphs, clothing, and so on, then I'm only really aware of the three places you've already mentioned.

However, most everything else can be imported into Daz - environments, static props like cars or trees, that sort of thing. There are numerous sites which can be found with a simple google search for something like "3d assets", but once again you'll need to be careful about the licensing. There are also plenty of tutorials out there for actually importing these into Daz, like this one which even includes converting the model to an appropriate file type using Blender.

it will be really base on the program that you use, if you only use daz3d, you will be stuck with model link to daz. but if you use other program or have a higher skill in 3d. you will have other place to buy like :

do know these site may or may not sell thing for daz3d.
