Just choose the decisions that make the most sense to you.
The tension about Brooke is ALWAYS there because of Macy's feelings. There is no "calm meal..."

The game is linear; the first chapters is all about the conflict within the family. Macy has an anger issue, and you should pick choices that can help her anger get low. I suggest you use this universal mod that I attached, just put the zip content it in the LightofmyLife-1.0.2-pc/game folder, it gives hints on what choice is better. But anyway, it's linear, so the fights are scripted and unavoidable.
