There are sandboxes that have no grind or even a VN mode, though the actual value for the story is often questionable at best. But the majority of "sandbox VNs" just tries to stretch content and waste player's time by inflating playtime and that is something that can be put as a negative any day.
Tier list is subjective, if you dont like it then you can make your own list, do remember that the world doesnt revolve around you, for example for me most games on this platform that has a sanbox element usually just a developer incapable of writing a good story or dialogues and make it sandbox just to inflate game time with a few exception such as NLT media games which their latest game also not really that good compare to their 2nd project Treasure of Nadia.
On top of it, most HS1 sandbox game feel like they overstay their welcome, with longer and longer time between update, or the story drag on forever, A House in The Rift, Mythic Manor, Dark Magic, The Inn.Based

Having to cycle through the same 5 lines of dialogue 10 days and nights for +1 point each to get a chance at a trigger for disjointed events is not "repeatable", it's just bad.

The fact I didn't cheat through the slow fights probably made me appreciate the side stuff a bit less, on top of the action limits in a day.I cheated the hell out of it and then I enjoyed it a lot
Has it's up and downs, but aside from the combat being painstakingly slow I wouldn't have called the side dialogues and stuff pointless filler

It's not even about the grind itself, but it is a bit Fire-Emblem-esque grid based combat. And multiple comments/reviews+dev himself have stated that the range units move in tiles was set far too low and you take ages just moving pieces around. Plus action limits per round on the map. The system wasn't terrible in and of itself imo, but implemented a bit poorly or rather not that thought through and slowed everything down far too much.
Yeah, I froze/edited all of that in URM and never cared again, that made it a surprisingly tolerable grind for me. And I really don't tolerate much of that.
Just finished that update.So,I pretty liked it,the whole arc reminded me l4d2 mission(not to mention horde sound and aid kits).If I didn't miss anything,there were no new sex scenes and it's kinda sad,cuz I wanted to see if they got better compared to the first release,where it was a 15 fps slide show.This time,there were some common animations,like shooting,driving,etc.They looked pretty good,but still,a few times I got a 15 fps vibe.Writing is great overall,I noticed some mistakes,but it doesn't really matter.As of choices,I need to finish it a few times to see if they actually affect anything or maybe some of them will have their impact later.

Some people discussed possible ntr there,personally,I got nothing against it,it would fit the dystopian setting,but,it clearly shouldn't invole Evelyn,I'm sure majority of people don't want to see your sister getting raped and I actually said it in the game thread months ago.Imho,the best option is to make it optional(all ntr content),but people have their takes.
Can't say a lot about the story,it's just a prologue,and for now,I don't see anything bad
My only problem is lis,idk,even if they have personallity,I don't find them attractive because of their design,maybe Irene just a bit,would like to see more of her further
