I get it. Love their wok, but I guess they add a large amount of realism into their game that I can't help but use my normal logic instead of porn logic. For example a scene of creampie in other game I would be like "sweet", but in their game I would scream "goddamit, now is not a time for kid"

You know what's funny.Seeing eternum reviews I noticed a tendency.The dudes who rated it as 1-2 are either ntr/cuckold lovers or extremely pervs. The logic is simple - the game doesn't contain the scene I wanted = The game is a crap. Not to mention how hilarious it is to hear something about "generic" story from a person,who rated as 5 the game,where the main point is to get your gf banged by hobos

I once made a joke that I would not mind a NTR-scene for people who do really dumb decisions (like making Penny cry, because many of the Diehard Harem Fans expected a lewd scene with this one girl in University who hates Penny (Regina)... Come on, expecting a reward for losing the path to a Main LI? Who is also way more likeable AND hotter than Regina?). People did not really appreciate it, even if it was clearly a Joke (and I stand by that, if you make such obvious decisions wrong, you can get punished).
And dont forget that Chang is only allowed to have an ugly girlfriend, because diehard Harem fans would get insufferable if a significant character other than MC would get a attractive girlfriend.
So while your point has some truth, the other side of the spectrum is not really better. Would be great if both sides would be more open-minded, accept that there are different fetishes and that not every fetish does fit in every game (since there are people who want actual NTR in games like Eternum and others want a Harem route in NTR-games...)... Or ideally just play more than one genre of games and not take everything so seriously.
Yeah diehard Eternum fans are a different breed LOL. I said myself that trying to give Eternum any kind of criticism is like trying to criticize Toby Fox. Some of them are also way too protective of these girls in an AVN.
Oh, I mean, I can understand it if people are actually asking to add kinks or fetishes in the game which would not fit. It is a Vanilla Harem game after all, so something like NTR or stronger BDSM does not really fit.
But not being able to criticize without sometimes massive backlash is indeed a thing. I remember that I said that 0.8 was the weakest Update so far. One of the reasons was that I thought that the Alex-scene was not really fitting at this point in the story, since there was a very awesome Alex-scene in the Update before and there have been LIs who did not have sex with MC so far and bringing the same LIs too often will not really help that much. Especially if the scene in the toilet is worse than the one in her appartment (which is one of the all time best lewd scenes IMO).
But some Alex-Fanboy was REALLY upset with that. And she is even my favourite LI as well, but apparently you are not allowed to say that for once there was no 10/10 scene with her and that it pales a bit in comparison to her apartment scene.
Wish some people would have more chill.

I swear that most 1-2 stars review can be summarize to "not enough H-scenes" or "not my kinks".Although, the funniest reviews are always about LI not being "virgings" or how if "LI is in crappy relationship at the beggining of the game - it's NTR"
I thought I was a weird one for thinking that. I would go even further and say if was the weakest update in both Eternum and Once in a Lifetime. Not only it was boring, but also pacing in the first part was completely off. "We need to hurry to get to this island, but first let's go to the beach. Sleep time. Dream (I genuinely hated that part). Threesome. Now we can goand retrieve this treasure"
I'm not even going to comment on supposed MC "growth" and how we cares about girls now, yet teleports their real bodies to Eternum.

idk what you guys are talking about. maybe i'm becoming a shit-eater with OVER 9000 AVNs, but the more i play AVNs, the more disappointed i become with "big projects": from eternum and ripples, where the plot (SAO in eternum and generic shit in ripples) reached the halfway point at best in 4-5 years, and even then they'll have to cut it to avoid dragging out development for 10+ years, to pale carnations, which i almost dropped on ch4ep5 due to the excessive emphasis on porn with mc mother. i understand that it can be important for the plot xdd, but reading about this shit for three years now is somehow hard tbh

Yeah, this was something which bothered me as well. MC almost dies, realizes he has to be more careful and in the same Update he uses his own connection to go into Eternum instead of using the device, which just poses an unneccessary risk. :/
Personally I also expected more from picking a crew member. Initially I wanted to go with the one woman, simply because I was hoping for some funny scenes with her around with Nancy and Nova, but it did not happen. I thought that she would be the comic relief character, since she does not give points to any LI. I wasnt expecting any lewd scene (no need for that anymore with Side LIs now that the plot with the Main LIs is so advanced), but I hoped picking her would be more funny.

It's similar to me,but with the whole avn concept. After playing too many of them,I can't just enjoy any of them. Something like this already happened to me with anime,so I barely watched it last 3 years. At some point I'll stop playing avns as well and think it will happen soon.

There's just not very much innovating these days. Same kind of shots and music for the same emotions and so on and so forth. It all just feels the same with different characters. Honestly goes for all types of media. Everything has been done to death. (City Devil Restart is highly innovative and doing a lot of new things [for AVNs at least] but honestly the story is just not it sadly LOL)
I myself don't rate Caribdis' writing too high but man the guy knows how to use all the tools at his disposal to make it immersive and present it in the best way possible. Pretty much the first guy to bring some of the funny Ren'py techniques to AVNs so he has a strong advantage there. Oddly, no one else seems to realize how important the little things in these games matter and leave them out.
As for Ripples it's so damn normal that I actually just skip a lot of text every update ngl I guess I just don't see what others see for what ever reason lol.
we just have to sort of manage expectations i think. the games on here are mostly just kinda fun projects that are amusing or cool at best. but thats alright.
i mostly care about a good story but if i really want a great story i'll go read one of the proper classic jp VNs or a book lol.but sometimes you are just in the mood for something a bit simpler and smaller (or more porny) which is a role a lot of the games on here can fill. nothing wrong with some junkfood sometimes. and sometimes you find a gem in the rough. but the people acting like eternum or other popular stuff are the next classic literature or something are wild.

For me Ripples is the most overrated crap ever. Granted, I did not play through all of the content, but if someone says it is the best AVN or their favourite, I really would question if they have any taste at all.
But I guess this is just different preferences. I just think it is too basic and does not have enough redeeming qualities to stick out in the sea of HS games, which only become more and more over time. I guess its big advantage is that it is around for so long already so that it gathered a following, while newer games dont have that yet.
