Is the gallery only for still images? I thought it would have animations.

Because gallery is for images (that's what a gallery usually is) and "scenes" are for scenes from the game. That is also why there is an unlock all button there too. I kind of wish more developers would use scenes as gallery in the normal sense is for paintings or artwork, aka still images.
