Looking For Feedback For New Game Projects I'm Currently Working On

Hey Guys. Like most of you I kinda got into playing some adult games back a couple of years ago and I was a little underwhelmed over the quality of storytelling of the games, I mean in the last year visually some of the renders look stunning, things are improving now with some of the top games on here that the devs have some real talent, so props where its deserved.

Point of this thread is that I have recently found myself in a very comfortable position in my new job which allows me to work from home and gave me a lot of free time on my hands. So I've decided to branch out and begin developing some of my own titles. I'm looking on here for some feedback from you guys coz my first project is almost at proper playable demo and wanted some advice.

Q1) I've had a bit of a question over how much content is deemed enough for a fully playable 0.1 version of an adult game that would make you guys happy?? I ask this because I see a lot of negative feedback from members here regarding the lengths of some first version titles, some say not enough content, lazy story, not enough sex, so point here would be how much content in a 0.1 would you guys be happy with honestly??

Currently I have around 60-70 minutes gameplay in my first version. Some have said to me too much content if you're going to make money, others say not enough so asking you guys for honesty coz i'm not going to develop a game purely made for milking patrons month after month with little payoff. I would much rather have an awesome first game project under my belt other than an awesome bank account linked to this game.

Q2) I currently have two projects in the wings, I've almost completed the first 0.1 for my first idea and I already have started a 0.1 for my second project, and just want to ask if I summarise with a quick synopsis of each games premise and plot which one would be best for me to continue full time with as I cannot decide myself.

1st Project - Unexplained Attractions (Only a rough title right now)
This is basically going to be a family based incest scenario game as I have seen that these types of games have become popular over the last 10 months or so, taking control of a male protagonist. using Unity engine with Daz 3D producing a long game from start to finish but I've worked on a development plan that I hope could keep people happy with how I move forward. It's a sandbox style game with lots of extra side quests and main quests and lots of characters involved in the game.

2nd Project - The Stalker (Again a rough title)
This is kind of a bit more ambitious than the title before with a premise that the player takes control of a female protagonist, I don't want to reveal too much about the plot coz there'd be no point in playing it to be honest, lol anyway back to the point, the main character becomes so obsessed with the other main character (here I'll be doing a choice that the player can choose if it's a male or a female that they want to stalk) that things go pretty dark and a little messed up, where the player gets to isolate the target of her affections from her friends, family and partner so she can have M/F all to herself. The player can do everything from bugging M/F apartment with surveillance gear, to getting a spare key cut to enter the apartment at any time, to even basically kidnapping, corruption, murder and the likes. This is going to be a pretty dark title overall and I'm kinda worried how it may be received which is why I am asking for opinions. Again I'm using Unity and Daz.

With the second title I'm probably going to be including fetishes that some may not like so I've been thinking do I advise the player before taking on missions and side mission opportunities what fetishes will be included in each module of the story or do I just run with it?? Fetishes I was thinking of including in this one will be Voyeurism, Masturbation, F/F, F/M, F/F/M, Oral, Anal, Drugging, Coerced Incest, BDSM, Forced Orgasms, Bondage, Murder, Blackmail, Vampirism, Snuff, Corruption, Mind Control, Cuckold (main character doing the cuckolding not the other way around), and basically the slow breaking (mentally and sexually) of another in game character. BTW if any of you think these are too extreme please let me know before I go too far into the project.

I'm asking you guys for advice because as a member of this site I know you all know your stuff about what makes a great adult game. Once I get the finished versions (as I never know when to stop for a first version of a game) I will be uploading the game here for you guys to play and will be happy to take on any criticisms, positive reviews, ideas for new content and anything anyone wants to contribute or say. I won't just upload version 0.1 of the game for free then expect money, I'll upload on here the same time that I upload onto Patreon (assuming that the content won't get removed with the new rules, but I'll probably have to create patches for the game to get it accepted on there). As I said making money would be nice but I'd rather deliver an awesome game first.

Any feedback would be great guys.

So..content length for first release is generally considered the longer the better(but you obviously don't want to blow your entiire load in the first release and have nothing to show in future releases.)

Look up A Wife and Mother on here, guy put out his intinal preview release and it is about 2 hours long, and he pretty much immediately got around $1,500 in pledges on Patreon, whereas you'll see a lot of these little devs drop a 5 minute demo and then wonder why they only have two or three people willing to pledge to them and they give up before ever releasing a 0.02.

So yeah my advice would be to make your first release as long as you can while still being in the realm of "hey this is just a first release more to come!" to show that you are serious about what you are doing, and people will respond.

Just reading the first project made me cringe. Forget about it unless you can offer something truly unique. The market for it is way too saturated.

The second one sounds way more interesting. I would just spend all my energy on that one since it's the one offering something fresh and possibly exploiting an unexplored market.

Examples of good games that are fairly new: "Depraved Awakening" (porn around a neonoir plot) and "A wife and a mother" (porn around slice of life).

As you mentioned, having consistent and believable writing is what is severely absent in most porn games, good renders are now way more common. If you can get that right, you will find success.

That is more than adequate. In my opinion, there's almost no such thing as too much content in a game. It's one thing to take a small amount of content and stretch it out, but that's not really what anyone talks about in terms of content. I think it would be nice to have a game as long as a Japanese eroge, but made with Daz3D. (Of course, that's just a bonkers amount of art, writing and work.)

Seems pretty solid. You'd have to go into more detail on the backstory for whether or not something similar is already out in the world (which you may not be willing to do this early in the development). @zalook mentioned the market is saturated, that's true. However if you have a really unique take on a similar backstory, it won't be a problem.

I think I'd be very interested in seeing something like this. The vast majority of games I see these days are, just that - games. They aren't as heavy on the story as it seems this title would be.

I think all the more extreme fetish content isn't done enough, especially for storytelling purposes (rape, murder, snuff, drugging, blackmail, etc). Anything involving non-consensual elements is going to be a little bit more tricky if you're going to sell the game or have a patreon, and definitely, definitely stay away from anything involving minors/children.

60 minutes of initial gameplay is FAR more than most of the v0.1 stuff getting into the wild these days. so I'd say as long as most of the in-game "systems" are complete-ish, that should be more than sufficient. Hell, most v0.3's don't have an hour of content. Having the mechanics of the gameplay locked down is important to my mind because it shows the developer isn't just shoveling out fodder to generate Patreon bucks and it more interested in providing an experience.

As far as the second question goes, you're the one with the drive, so ultimately, it will be your decision. Some folks actually work better with multiple balls in the air, some do better with one solid focus, so how you work best is something only you can answer. Both projects sound interesting, granted, the second one would sound more interesting to me if you could also pick the gender of the MC simply because it open up options for folks. MM/MF/FM/FF, but would require so much more actual work, because given how you described it, all the MF/FM content would have to be rendered differently depending on who the MC was. But I'm certain there is a market for it, assuming you can control how "dark" it becomes, because there are a lot of folks that shy away from stuff that's truly "hardcore" violent. Also there isn't a lot of MM content games, not interested in it myself, but hey, who am I to judge kinks, because I want my MC in games to bang his sister and mom. And I'm equally as certain that somewhere out there someone wants their MC to bang their dad and uncle, be they male or female IRL.

Wow, this got longer than I thought. Sorry about that. The TL/DR version is basically polish off the first project's v0.1, get the 2nd project to a similar state, throw them both at the wall and see what sticks and gains traction.

What ever you can come up with in 1 months time is a good opener.

Only do 1 project at a time unless you have 10 computers to do the renders on and can use 5 for each project.
Otherwise you will have to little content for each one to put out each month.

You say you are a good writer then prove it with a great story with everything that can happen with a family.
Family style kissing to start with and more romantic types as the occasion warrants.
Family style hugging and more romantic types as the occasion warrants.
Give us something or another GF for sex right off the bat until MC can start getting what is needed from the family.
Make every action the MC can do repeatable.
Have the family initiate kissing, hugging and sex when it warrants it. Family style kissing/hugging when MC does something nice for them. Kiss on the check or a hug from behind and so on.
Make it like a open world type of game with restaurants and movies theater to take dates on, stores to buy stuff at clothes, food, jewelery and other types of gifts.
I don't want to conquer them fast or to slow, 1 can be rather faster than the others but still it can't be to fast we are talking about our family right.
A way to make money form home and show the stats of everyone that MC can have a relationship with.
Washing the dishes only take 1 hour max not 6 hours.

Put in options for like drugs if any magic power of power mm/f, m/ff pregnancy with the morning after pill if needed and so on that the player can chose to have in the game at the start.
Making a clean game without drugs magic or power is best. If you bring in rape make sure to list it if its caused by the MC or it happens to MC friend/family member by including MC rape or rape none MC.
Make sure you list all fetishes in the genre list.

And if you really want to blow players mind have babies that grow up and take over MC's place making it a never ending story.(Ya I know it will never happen.)

Yes my main 4 fetishes are kissing, hugging, incest and pregnancy.

ADD: I have to add if you do not have animated sex scenes then have at least 5 pics for the sex that may need to repeat with the length of the convo that is going on at the time of sex.

To answer your questions in order:

1) I don't think it's explicitly a question of length so much as 'content.' You could make an hour-long traditional RPGmaker game with one or two hentai images at the end, and people could say it was short on content. On the other hand, Summertime Saga's first release last year was about five minutes but did such a great job on art and worldbuilding that people immediately saw its potential.

Personally, I'd say the sweet spot for me is between five and ten minutes of really polished content. Whatever your strong suit is (writing, gameplay, images), put your best stuff on display. But definitely at LEAST have nudity in the first release if there's a visual element to your game at all.

2) See how people respond to your actual game. Since I haven't seen your art or read your fiction or played your gameplay, I have absolutely no idea how well any of it works. I'd probably be more interested in actually playing the first idea than the second, but the second is definitely more original as far as ideas around here go.

As far as picking projects to actually work on, I'd say to go forward with the one you have almost finished and see how people respond. It sounds like you have the motivation to do it, assuming the 60-70 minutes of gameplay is relatively high quality, so I don't see a reason to switch projects unless you think you're about to burn yourself out. In which case, probably not the best time to start up a Patreon anyway.

Note: the real test of a good Patreon project is what we see once you've run out of pre-loaded content. There are definitely more than a few games with interesting premises that completely fail to deliver anything good beyond the first update or two. So the third question I wished you asked is: how much content in a month do people consider 'good enough?' That, I think, says more about the quality of your project than even your first release.

For me ... I don't care your content nor gonna advice what scenario you should pick. I say, instead wondering your project and ask people about it, you should reflect yourself to think about what most games & genre that you enjoy so much. I don't care if you're gonna make the same type like others, you will became the 1000th or 2000th who make Incest or whatever genre you want to create.

If you make the game base on passion and love of your own games, perfection will come later. Then ... fans, donation and freebie will come automatically. BUT, if you plan to make game base on money or try to please people ... your game will not have soul, and people will notice it.

So, my advice now, be honest of yourself. For example if you don't like Incest genre, don't make one in hope attract more donator. If you love Incest, make it so, despite Patreon's Witch Hunt. There's 1400'ish adult game patreons. Majority of it making games to please public. Player who try the games will notice how the game lack of passion, and leave them to rot.

Don't be corporate minded when you still solo or small developer. You can became EA or Activision, a greedy companies, when you have what they have. Before it, you are puny developer wannabe, so your passion is the ultimate weapon.

1 hour of actual gameplay events (not Big Brother Style grind) is more than enough I'd suggest 30-45 minutes (plus gives you 15 mins head start on 0.1.1 as some games never make it that far) but it illustrates something good in the game Big Brother In Space threw in a nice animation, you might build to a mini cliff hanger or show off an establishing event I'd look at the good 0.1 releases (Several already suggested, see what they are doing you could emulate and what they are doing you could improve on
If you're going to do a family harem what's you're unique selling point ? If I ask you why should I play this instead of (pick a harem any harem) what would you tell me?

Maybe shift the focus what if the mums seducing the family but she's manipulating the son as her catspaw or give the guy a brother that's about to leave for a new job or something and it's time for little bro to figure out how to make everyone happy.

Could they be rivals and the girls manipulating the situation to thier advantage but the guys will join forces to keep anyone else out?

The second idea is in a less crowded niche that said a really good harem game will get on the best harem game lists from the likes of sex positive gaming, a less mainstream game has to compete with everyting to get onto the top 10 anything games.

Your first project should be the shorter of the 2 so you can get some experience making a full game. Based on the description that seems to be the stalking game. If you're already working on both I'd say do 2 updates of that game and then 1 of the other. A lot of devs will add a second project to avoid burning out on one, so this will give you a head start on that while still focusing on one main project. The stalking game also has the benefit of being an actual planned project that you're interested in. Based on the description it sounds like the first game is just something you're doing because incest is popular.

In my defense, when a 1 page thread shows up at the top of the forum it's not typically a necro. Would you have even noticed how old it was if you hadn't already posted?
I always look up several post above to get an idea what everyone is talking about so if I can add something good then I will plus I look at the date of post so I can keep it close to the date of the posting.
