After slogging through Book 1 and Book 2, where the game kept getting more and more annoying, I played the first 5 hours of Book 3 and simply could not go a second more. It's terrible. The writing for all three books is extremely long-winded, boring, derivative, and sounds like it's written by a teenager.

There are far too many things wrong with the story and gameplay to list them all. On a positive note, several of the girls are really nice. But after wasting some 50 hours on on this game I'm so frustrated. I genuinely don't understand why Love of Magic has a good average rating. I'm really wondering what people enjoy about it. I'm assuming that people like the story since it's unlikely to be the gameplay or the sex scenes.

Speaking of... this porn game has far too little porn. And the few sex scenes there are include far too little actual sex, animations, etc.

The gameplay is a imo lackluster, point-and-click grind. It requires a walkthrough since it's quite counter intuitive.

By the way, imagine if you could see a count of the total number of mouse clicks you've had to use in this game. It will be staggering.

annoying game on rails with constant unskippable card minigame
    that is less than fun
honestly game would be much better without cards
string of event itself don't rl let you chose the girls or anything you just keep being transported from 1 card game to another with boobs in between

    PROS
The visuals are okay, kinda average looking. I'm more into story, as long as there are no grainy/low quality renders, I'm fine.

    CONS
    - The gameplay is akin to the old sandbox, super grindy games of the late 2010s era. 90% of the game is spent clicking on locations in addition to a card game for combat & grinding stats and money. Guess how you get money? By clicking on a button in the bar on a specific time each day. Very exciting. Sometime you have literally no clue what to do as the quest log is barebones and isn't really informative, so you just have to click on locations on certain times of the day and pray one of them triggers an event to escape the grind. This style would've been okay in 2016 but for a game releasing (re-releasing?) in 2025, its just disappointing that they didn't really innovate like other sandbox devs in anyway to make it more exciting.
    - There is lot of text-padding. A lot of text where really nothing is going on. Its doesn't really advance the plot in anyway just meaningless small talk. This just adds to the boredom as you're already making the player grind stats.
    - Scenes are sparse in-between the text-padding and grind, feels like its not worth it after all grind. I had to force myself to finish Book 1 without cheats.
    - Game doesn't really make use of any of the benefits of Unity, this should've been on Renpy. I don't think I've seen anything here that could not have been done in Renpy. I've played Renpy games with more intricate and dynamic minigames than the ones in here. Why not use a more optimized engine thats literally designed for VNs and trial & tested by many devs and loved by most players?
    - Short H scenes which is hardly a reward after all the grind. The main girl is the usual super innocent LI thats clueless about anything sex-related. The rest are sidegirls that offer minimal fanservice while you go through the typically main girl slow burn.

A lot to read, boring to play, ugly to jerk.

Prolonged epilogue where you discover your unique ancestry and similar face features with dad of your crush. After that you get free roam where you do everyday routine to earn affection with many girls. And fight in poker game like with different mobs. I got bored very quickly after reading a ton of text and watching some spooky love scenes.
There are some pretty girls but to earn their affection you have to skip hrs of text and many uninteresting poker games so i dropped it after i got love scenes with 2 girls which was without any animations. I won't willing to continue and try other books.

    Sir Sam

Okay I’m not sure how I haven‘t reviewed this game already but here we go.

I’ve been following this since the end of book 1, and make no mistake about it, this is THE BEST fantasy story that’s been told in any AVN ever.

and that’s saying something because I absolutely despise sandbox games.

let me get the cons out of the way:

    - I absolutely hate sandbox, but the fast travel feature saves the playability

    - there are no crazy graphics to speak of since this Is more dialogue based with character sprites and the Occasional scene

    - the poker fighting is largely uninteresting and becomes a pain in the ass really quickly. However the debug + auto fight buttons takes care of it nicely.

    - to me this is minor since I don’t care about It much but the sex scenes were quite weak and unmemorable

    Now the pros:

    - Tons of content that will keep you entertained for a long time
    - music is fantastic
    - Main character Is not a wimp
    - dialogue and world building are top notch
    - super original magic system and adaptation of myths, especially since urban fantasy is a bitch of a genre to nail right
    - super memorable scenes and set pieces ( I must’ve replayed the scene where the mc attacks Thor at the meeting 100 times)
    - Love interests are very well balanced and well written , no unneeded drama and baggage just to raise their “complexity”, they’re complex enough through their own backstories

All of this just to say, that if you can get past the awful sandbox and weird combat ( please use debug and fast travel) you’ll be treated to the best fantasy story you’ll probably ever read on this site

Also Droid is a badass and his writing is extremely good. Also massive props for his out put and work ethic as he’s probably the most consistent creator ( also check Morningstar after it’s quite good)

A good game if you're here for the story and characters and want a good unique combat system. It's not a good adult title (porn game) overall.

    Pros
    • Excellent world building
    • Excellent storytelling
    • Excellent characters
    • Excellent character development
    • Excellent combat system

    Book 1 - 4.5/5 stars
    Book 2 - 3.5/5 stars
    Book 3 - 2/5 stars

Books 1 & 2 are quite interesting with excellent world building and excellent storytelling. Then we get to Book 3 and it's groundhog day with a few twists. In Book 3 you're basically repeating a lot of what you did in Book 2 and a bit in Book 1. It feels like the dev ran out of story to tell.

Combat is good and meaningful in Book 1 and a walk in the park in Book 3. The MC is so powerful in Book 3 that he basically just destroys everyone by blinking his eyes. The only real challenge in Book 3 is finding the quest triggers.

Sex scenes are average to poor. The first time or two you have sex with a character the sex scenes are average; after that poor, short, and boring. Sex scenes are not the emphasis with this game, more like an afterthought. There's a ton of story and grind between sex scenes. There's numerous spots in the game where a sex scene would be very appropriate and it feels like the author avoids them intentionally. It's rare to find a game where the author is great at both storytelling and sex scenes and this applies here.

I also dislike that the game was written in Unity for the following reasons. This prevents the player community from easily modding it or making in-game walkthroughs. It also does weird things like only showing the background image on save game thumbnails instead of what's actually shown on the screen like most other game engines. This makes it impossible to tell (by the image) what save game you're loading (content wise). I also encountered bugs where some of the animations would stop abruptly when advancing the text.

The characters are well written with good character development which is a huge plus. The characters are fun and interesting.

I disliked the game mechanic where you would start the day in the morning and then if you did any activity, no matter how small (even having a short conversation with someone), it would instantly take you to evening. Ten freaking hours gone just like that!

The combat mechanics are well done overall with a unique and clever poker & gem system. In Book 2 the MC cannot die as he can never go below 1 HP. This makes combat somewhat pointless and less challenging. The MC fights some really powerful creatures in Book 2 and perhaps the author did this because too many players were dying. This mechanic should have been removed with a more balanced combat experience.

The Chosen are quite unbalanced in their abilities. For most groups I use Emily, Molly, and Bella. If I'm fighting tough enemies that do lots of damage I'll swap in Dylan for healing, switching out Molly or Bella. I use Emily whenever she's available since she's good at both damage and shields. Katie is a good choice in Book 1 but loses effectiveness to better Chosen in Books 2 & 3. Based on my experience with the game, there's little reason to choose the other Chosen in your group which is unfortunate. I wish I had a more difficult time deciding who to add to my adventuring party (if they were all equally balanced) but the choice was quite easy for me.

One annoying thing about some of the chosen abilities is that the MC has to thank them each time after using their special ability. It's highly annoying and completely unnecessary (extra mouse clicks).

One funny thing about combat is that your adventuring party can instantly kill any enemy with 2,000 hit points or less. Emily's Dragonslayer ability does 1,000 damage and once Bella gets Thor's hammer she does 1,000 hit points of damage also. So if the enemy has 2,000 hit points or less they never get a turn and it's super easy experience where the MC himself doesn't have to lift a finger.

Another annoying thing about combat is that the dev gives some of the enemies an insane amount of hit points. So some enemy battles go on for nearly an eternity. Why? It's mindless fighting as I'm repeating the same steps to defeat the enemy, only I'm repeating the same steps 100 times. These long drawn out battles don't respect the player's time. Way too much boring repetition with high hit point enemies!

In Book 3 I disliked the interactions between Emily and the MC. I got annoyed that she kept calling me her Tomcat. I didn't enjoy the alternate timeline and reliving most of what I accomplished in Books 1 & 2. I disliked the entire direction that the dev took with Book 3.

So it really depends on what you're looking for. I personally feel that Books 1 & 2 are worth a playthrough. Book 3 was disappointing.

    book 1 hardest difficulty:
    -5/10
-the 3d modeling combined with the Live2D is nice although there isn't much variance in the girls bodytypes so hope you like skinny. some of the faces are very nice.
-the ero scenes can be bland; the male protag ruins most of the scenes he participates in
    -there is no sandbox
-the dialogue gets extremely repetitive after about day 80 which is when i started skimming through it all. the writing somehow manages to be more bland than the 2008 merlin tv show it takes its inspiration from.
-the card "combat" is boring and repetitive which is why you'll wanna utilize the skip function that's left on by default so you don't waste any more of your time than the story is already wasting. all story combat is unlosable.
-difficulty doesn't matter as eventually you get overpowered companion skills

    book 2:
    TBD

    book 3:
    TBD

Great game love to have more of the magic, only thing that i dislikes was lighting could be a bit better for my taste it was a bit gloomy. Dev seems like a good guy i hope he sees this review and works on it and would like to add one more thing the magic and the wilderness gets me closer to cum but the lights are too gloomy so i close my eyes when im done.

This is my first time actually writing a review, so that should speak to this game having some impact. Unfortunately, now that it's done, that impact is a bit of a mixed one.

Starting with the high points, the premise and the worldbuilding are fun and engaging. Magical realism generally walks a thin line between over-explaining and lampshading, and I think the bulk of this story walks that line very comfortably. It's rare playing an adult game and having its story really stick with you like this one does. Apart from at-times-mediocre romance and corny dialogue (especially from the MC) I think the writing is the major appeal here. I also want to give special praise for the combat system, because it's a fun and clever game with a fun in-universe justification.

That said, the writer(s) got a bit lost sniffing their own farts in Book 3. Where 1 & 2 were engaging, original, and tense, Book 3 becomes a bland power fantasy weighed down by a college freshman's purple prose. The RPG elements are largely, if not entirely, pointless in Book 3. Most conflict is resolved immediately by the MC's excessive powers, and what little combat is involved in Book 3 is laughably easy with the tools given. It's clear there were some behind-the-scenes issues in plot development, considering they really emphasize a new mechanic (rage) that ends up being irrelevant and abandoned by the middle of the book. The story wraps up with a milquetoast "happy ending" that spends too much time setting up entirely new plot threads for a sequel. Unfortunately, the finale just leaves everything on a sour note.

As far as the sex scenes, they're not great. Most of the character models are good quality and well-designed, but the scenes themselves are largely boring. It's almost entirely run-of-the-mill hetero vanilla sex, with a handful of group sex encounters, but the CGs are underwhelming and the animations are messy. I had hoped they'd improve those skills with time, but even at the end it wasn't much to look at.

At the end of Book 2, I likely would've given this a 5 based on writing and hope for the next installment. But after seeing how it all came together, I don't think I can put it above a 3. It's hard to get past the disappointment of seeing something interesting become boring.

One of the best adult games I have played and a personal favorite. Love of Magic features one of the best stories I've ever had the joy of experiencing. It felt like Camelot, Tolkien, and the MCU all colliding in the best way possible. I cared way more about the story and characters than the "adult" aspects of the game, not that some of those moments weren't great. Life changing experience that will have me following all the developer's future projects.

    Tarnished Saber

This game is just a wall of text with some janky adult content sprinkled in. There’s way too much dialogue, and none of it is interesting. Scenes are spaced out so far apart that by the time you get to one, you’ve already lost interest. The characters? Bland as hell. The story? Feels like a cringy fanfic written by a 13-year-old from tumblr.
The porn scenes are absolute garbage. The animations are stiff, the quality is bad, and there’s nothing but vanilla stuff—no spice, no variety, just straight-up boring. The models look weird and uncanny, which doesn’t help.
Even as a game, it sucks. The combat is boring, the progression is pointless, and the whole thing feels like it has no idea who it’s even made for. I honestly can’t think of a single reason to play this.

One of the best games on the site. The story is top rate, the visual stunning, and the UI pleasant (something that is rare for Unity games). The game is just as worthwhile for all the banter and inter-personal relationship building as for the lewd scenes (though those are good too). This is a massive game that is well worth every second spent on it.
  15. 2.00 star(s)

    cyphre

This is a rough one to rate. Realistically i would put it at 3, since it's a solid story with extremely critical issues, but i leave it at 2 because this game is a liar and i do not appreciate being lied to, and it relies heavily on malicious obfuscation tactics, smoke and mirrors to hook you in. I will elaborate on this below.

First, you have to understand that it is a decent story for the most part, with overall good dialogues and interesting world. There is a possibility you will enjoy it, however many extremely standout and critical issues bring it so low the experience comes out as overall more negative. Let me first touch on the critical failures:

    1) The game does not respect your time. At all. So you have a certain number of areas, and certain times of day (morning, evening, night, late night) in which you go around and trigger various events. All 3 books contain 288 days, and yeah some days are fully taken by story events but overall its 1152, let's round up to 1000, periods of time where the game expect you to visit 10+ spots, and in books 2-3 over 20 spots. You do not get ANY indications new events are now available, so you are conditioned to maniacally checked every single location like an OCD riddled raccoon digging into trash hoping someone threw something out. I hate playing with a walkthrough in one eye, but in this case it is downright mandatory to not waste your time.

    2) Book 3 is offensively awful and retroactively ruins books 1 and 2. So a bit of a spoiler time, so can skip this part if you didn't play, books 1 and 2 are about a war on Outsiders, creatures from outside of known reality, which progresses fine enough until the culmination at the end of book 2. Book 3 decides to pull multiverse bullshit and pulls us into another reality, in which for around 80% of book 3, our grand finale of the trilogy, we repeat parts of books 1-2. And by the end of those 80% we are flung back, making most of the things we did there utterly meaningless as well. It was so unimaginably horrendous i could not believe the same person wrote it.

    3) The combat system is a lie. The choices are a lie. The stakes are a lie. So for the first several hours i was... impressed by this poker based combat with a combination of gems and potentially your own builds and playstyles. I am a JRPG enjoyer and i WILL optimize my grinding methods and assume endgame have strong opponents, so when there was a time i went to paths (local dungeons) and abused save system to reshuffle cards and get strongest enemies for most exp. Took me a lot of time, unnecessary much time in fact. I did this for the entire book 1, but in book 2 something awful happened. I kinda just lost attention and got nuked and i lost... or so i thought. However i had 1 hp left, and accompanied by my very much raised eyebrows i checked if i can die at all. I could not. I checked in several more main story fights and, lo and behond, my hp simply refused to go below 1. You could not die, there was no point in all the gameplay i did and all my time wasted. There is no need to engage with gameplay at all. This is all a vile illusion, conjured to try and add more depth to experience.

Which it doesn't have even in choices. All you can do is activate certain triggers to watch several more scenes, however regardless of how many checks you fail, how weak you are, how much you ignore someone, you WILL have those characters, events and wins forced onto you. You will potentially see couple less scenes, but that's about it. It is a kinetic novel, trying to masquerade as a sandbox with choices. More obfuscation and lies.

And finally, by the end of book 3 it was clear the author was done with the project and finished main villain with couple sentences while rushing towards his next work. All while covering his narrative blunders with multiple realities, removing all stakes from the game.

    4) Protagonist is a juvenile moronic bumbling idiot and everything falls into his arms. I will admit it's far from the WORST MC i have ever seen, but it's hardly a shining praise. Protagonist constantly worried about cheating on his only love, Emily, while shagging every side girl without a second thought. He never tries to do anything or find anything without others pushing him into it. It never crosses his mind to get dressed for a date, to get his wife a ring, to show appreciation, to think at least in a minimal capacity. Everything he has is gotten to him by almighty powers planning his entire existense for thousands of years, and he acts like he did it on his own and deserves it. Even every one of his "conquests" is because he quite literally radiates power and sexual energy and other crap he never deserved. I hated experiencing the world through his eyes and thoughts.

    5) This is not a harem. Yes, there are multiple girls protagonist can bang, but he ever only loves one, and despite game trying to present his 3 Chosen as something deep and emotional they are in actuality just brainwashed eternal slaves. Once characters become Chosen they become entirely different people, essentially lose their personal goals and motives and live only to serve MC. I felt sorry for most people our MC crosses path with, not emotional attachment. And every other side character is there just for 1-2 times of casual sex because women and men do this i guess. If you are looking for a harem, this ain't it.

    6) Beyond extreme reliance of deus ex machinaes. How did you know we needed to find you? Voices. What do we do now? Voices. How do we proceed now? Voices. Why do we need to do it? Voices. Get atound magical glyphs? Voices. Why do we suddenly need this BS we never heard about and never knew about? I dunno, Voices i guess. It is implied that one of the true Gods, The Mother, was behind the Voices and was guiding every Sorceress in existense all along, but this doesn't change the fact that OVER HALF of knowledge and actions of out main group is because Voices told them so. Not because they figured something out or deserved result of their actions. People just fumble around until Voices pop up and tell them where to be and what to do. Instead of crafting a real story, every plothole and inconsistency is plugged by the Voices. Truly awful writing.

    7) Technical aspects are shit. Scenes look extremely dated, primitive and robotic, and the further you play the more game start falling apart, which is especially notable in barely functional book 3. I could not read some of the books at all, events from previous books started repeating themselves, for most of book 3 there are just no events and nothing to do. UI often get stuck and you are forced to save-load to get rid of a pop up achievement or quest, some of the stats like Swordsmanship is relevant for ONE time but you don't know that and can keep wasting time on it. Everywhere you look something doesn't work or fails and it's extremely distracting from the overall experience.

I could write so, so much more details on every on those points but this is already getting out of hand, so the conclusion i guess.

Unlike other unreasonably high rated games, i can understand how this one got the high ratings. By pretending it's something it is not and tricking people that don't know better. This is a good world and a good story in the hands of incompetent developers, which try to hide it as hard as they can. If you gonna play it, consider the points above and if those things are an issue to you or no.

This is a tough one to score because it does a few things well but can't seem to keep from shooting itself in the foot.

I like sandbox games, and this one is strong and engaging. While it doesn't make the mistakes that many do resulting in a grindy feel, it does something worse. The sandbox is fun to play in, but there's a timer so engaging non-optimally in the sandbox is punished.

I like the world building, in this game, but it's brought down by the dialogue. I have a feeling that the dialogue UI is also working against it, as you're presented with your responses before you see what you're responding to. Removing about 30% of the dialogue would probably be able to still deliver the same narrative, same world building, and may get below the threshold of feeling that you need to click spam through it.

Renders and animations are pretty average, and many of the videos feel like a distraction, especially with an odd UI presenting the embedded video.

Another example of a game where I wish I could do half stars. I really enjoyed this experience. The setting was interesting and with just enough tying it down that I didn't feel like the world was coming off overly silly, but really the character interactions were king and even during what felt like a perhaps slightly dragged out final book with more downtime than events I was very pleased by all the connections and dialogue I was having with everyone.

I also appreciated the attention to the harem dynamic which I find far too often lacking and will always advocate for more of. This may have been backed by sorcery shenanigans but having an top girl who helps keep the gears of the gangly mess of the harem machine going is a solid foundation and Emily worked very well in this role. Bella has a special place in my heart though and I do wish I got to spoil her more.

If I could I would have given 4.5 out of 5 because really the only thing I was sort of disappointed by was what I perceived to be a running out of steam kind of feeling by the time we got however far into book 3. If I had to nitpick anything more just for possible future considerations then the quests could have been worded more exactly or broken up into chunks so that I did not feel the need to run around checking locations every time change when really it was just a day marker that had no listing on the calendar and I wasn't going to miss an event by accident. I can't begin to count how many saves I made trying to make sure I would not miss anything with Katie when the quest seemed to imply that I myself needed to find a good time to talk with her and not just that I was waiting for the game to decide when a good time was going to come up.

In the grand scheme of things very few issues for what was overall a very enjoyable narrative. Will be supporting where I can and I look forward to more from this creator in the future.

Played all three parts, began to find it less and less interesting starting from the second part, and honestly found the third part a bit of a slog, raced through the last couple hours of gametime.

It's certainly got some fun moments, there are regular epic parts interspersed with some pretty grindy gameplay. I think for me personally I did not find the main LI Emily very attractive so that obviously had a negative impact. Honestly most of the side girls are way hotter. Molly and Jenny are best girls

The sex scenes are all very short and pretty dull. And you have a smokeshow like Chloe in your game why so few scenes with her!? Crazy.

That being said I enjoyed the game enough to get through it, and bought Morningstar to support the dev. There's a lot of effort and ambition here for sure

Here's an idea for Droid's next game, a female protag road trip game starring Molly and Jenny getting up to all sorts of naughty adventures. Think like a porny Thelma and Louise. You can have that one for free. Your welcome ;)

Even though I have a few issues with this visual novel, the stellar writing alone is enough for me to give it five stars. The characters were all very interesting and distinct, although more time getting to know the separate races and pantheons would have been welcome. My strongest complaint is that the main character is kind of a buffoon without any tact. He is definitely the braun to Emily's brain and it was clear that his anger issues and rash behavior were intentional in portraying him as a young god with more responsibility than he is ready for.. there is really no resolution to it beyond Emily being his anchor. Relying on another to keep you from becoming a tyrannical psychopath is not a very healthy solution to these issues. The story makes it clear that the MC would be out of control without her but there was no real payoff to this. It's also messed up that the ending has the gods requiring worship to maintain their powers. That's going to make a fucked up society worth exploring in a story. Some gods wouldn't fair well in the public spotlight and others would whore themselves out in a competition for votes. People would be expecting things for their vote.

Not many games are made like this one. The storyline is phenomenal with so much theory crafting involved, a mix of many stories and subtle easter eggs to other games, movies, and books. One of the few games thatll remain at the top of my list.
