A good game if you're here for the story and characters and want a good unique combat system. It's not a good adult title (porn game) overall.
Pros
- Excellent world building
- Excellent storytelling
- Excellent characters
- Excellent character development
- Excellent combat system
Book 1 - 4.5/5 stars
Book 2 - 3.5/5 stars
Book 3 - 2/5 stars
Books 1 & 2 are quite interesting with excellent world building and excellent storytelling. Then we get to Book 3 and it's groundhog day with a few twists. In Book 3 you're basically repeating a lot of what you did in Book 2 and a bit in Book 1. It feels like the dev ran out of story to tell.
Combat is good and meaningful in Book 1 and a walk in the park in Book 3. The MC is so powerful in Book 3 that he basically just destroys everyone by blinking his eyes. The only real challenge in Book 3 is finding the quest triggers.
Sex scenes are average to poor. The first time or two you have sex with a character the sex scenes are average; after that poor, short, and boring. Sex scenes are not the emphasis with this game, more like an afterthought. There's a ton of story and grind between sex scenes. There's numerous spots in the game where a sex scene would be very appropriate and it feels like the author avoids them intentionally. It's rare to find a game where the author is great at both storytelling and sex scenes and this applies here.
I also dislike that the game was written in Unity for the following reasons. This prevents the player community from easily modding it or making in-game walkthroughs. It also does weird things like only showing the background image on save game thumbnails instead of what's actually shown on the screen like most other game engines. This makes it impossible to tell (by the image) what save game you're loading (content wise). I also encountered bugs where some of the animations would stop abruptly when advancing the text.
The characters are well written with good character development which is a huge plus. The characters are fun and interesting.
I disliked the game mechanic where you would start the day in the morning and then if you did any activity, no matter how small (even having a short conversation with someone), it would instantly take you to evening. Ten freaking hours gone just like that!
The combat mechanics are well done overall with a unique and clever poker & gem system. In Book 2 the MC cannot die as he can never go below 1 HP. This makes combat somewhat pointless and less challenging. The MC fights some really powerful creatures in Book 2 and perhaps the author did this because too many players were dying. This mechanic should have been removed with a more balanced combat experience.
The Chosen are quite unbalanced in their abilities. For most groups I use Emily, Molly, and Bella. If I'm fighting tough enemies that do lots of damage I'll swap in Dylan for healing, switching out Molly or Bella. I use Emily whenever she's available since she's good at both damage and shields. Katie is a good choice in Book 1 but loses effectiveness to better Chosen in Books 2 & 3. Based on my experience with the game, there's little reason to choose the other Chosen in your group which is unfortunate. I wish I had a more difficult time deciding who to add to my adventuring party (if they were all equally balanced) but the choice was quite easy for me.
One annoying thing about some of the chosen abilities is that the MC has to thank them each time after using their special ability. It's highly annoying and completely unnecessary (extra mouse clicks).
One funny thing about combat is that your adventuring party can instantly kill any enemy with 2,000 hit points or less. Emily's Dragonslayer ability does 1,000 damage and once Bella gets Thor's hammer she does 1,000 hit points of damage also. So if the enemy has 2,000 hit points or less they never get a turn and it's super easy experience where the MC himself doesn't have to lift a finger.
Another annoying thing about combat is that the dev gives some of the enemies an insane amount of hit points. So some enemy battles go on for nearly an eternity. Why? It's mindless fighting as I'm repeating the same steps to defeat the enemy, only I'm repeating the same steps 100 times. These long drawn out battles don't respect the player's time. Way too much boring repetition with high hit point enemies!
In Book 3 I disliked the interactions between Emily and the MC. I got annoyed that she kept calling me her Tomcat. I didn't enjoy the alternate timeline and reliving most of what I accomplished in Books 1 & 2. I disliked the entire direction that the dev took with Book 3.
So it really depends on what you're looking for. I personally feel that Books 1 & 2 are worth a playthrough. Book 3 was disappointing.
