There were 2 viable paths for a follow up to the classic action, slice of life comedy Majikoi. Either, you make a continuation for each heroines' routes, or you start over from scratch and make new routes for side girls and maybe add a few new ones. Unfortunately, Minato Soft decided to do BOTH.
The "S" in "Majikoi S" obviously stands for "Sex" with how many H scenes are present. This density seems to be a side affect of bloating the heroine roster while keeping a minimum H scene quota for every girl. Routes are shorter by necessity. For whatever reason, they decided the old girls needed another after story consisting almost entirely of H scenes instead of anything substantial. Sadly, the new heroines barely fair much better. Tsubame and Monshiro are the lucky ones. They get routes comparable to the first Majikoi with nice enough development and an interesting enough plot. Although I really dislike Tsubame, she did at least have an good route which is more than I can say for my poor girl Margit. Margit, Kokoro, and Tatsuko get an H scene laden route, more akin to the after stories.
Route gripes aside, the technical presentation has really been kicked up a notch. Majikoi was already delightfully energetic, being far more visually interesting than most VNs. S is this and so much more with improvements in all visual aspects.
Unfortunately, there is one more far more unforgivable sin that needs to be addressed. For whatever reason, Minato Soft felt the need to make its credits unskippable. More importantly, every version cannot be skipped on first viewing. There's a different version of credits for EVERY SINGLE ROUTE LINE. That's right, there are at least 13 different credit rolls that you have to sit through. That's a total of 65 minutes you'll have to find something else to do as the exact same names roll by!
I have to say, I sound a lot more negative than I feel. Honestly, aside from the credit roll issue, nothing is as bad as the Agave route from the first game. I'd rate it as high as I did the first, but over an hour of credits is where I draw the line.
