I'm making a game with a slime protagonist in GODOT with turn based combat and am wondering which people would prefer between a text based game and a game with ai art?

I hear there are people who are turned off by both, so i want to know which one is the most acceptable one.

I'm not good at drawing nor at 3d modelling so normal 2d art and 3d art are not possible at the moment but i do want them later.

You are making a hobby project. You should do what you personally enjoy the most - do you like a text based game? or do you like images?

Optimizing for what other people want is important if you are a business person designing a product. Are you trying to make money? (and if so, forget it, you've got like a 1% chance - see Count Morado's patreon analysis posts)

Unless you are already a skilled artist, images are more work to create than text descriptions. But text is also hard to do well (I've been editing/ghostwriting other dev's games for years with some very complimentary feedback, yet I am not confident in writing my own original stories).

Many developers (including myself) are turning to AI image generation. But know this: they are fast to make but very hard to do well, just check the latest releases and see the flood of games that all look so similar and have similar flaws. Plus you gain a hardcore group of haters.

Text-only games largely appeal to a relatively literate subset of f95 users. It's a long road to build up a fan base. However it can be a faster turn around time between releases because you don't need to slave over the image creation.

Games which have basic images can work, but the eroticism has to come from the plot / writing. Relatively low effort means relatively low reward for the player.

Games with good images but poor writing are superficial like a bimbo cheerleader - fun to play with briefly but no lasting appeal. This type is popular with the ESL / semi-illiterate crowd because they can't get the true value out of the actually well written games.

Games with great images and great writing are few and far between - and creating them will consume your time and sanity.
