VN - Ren'Py - Manila Shaw: Blackmail's Obsession Unofficial Ren'Py Port [v0.39 J.D] [Doshima]

The only pro is the good amount of choices, but even the choices arent always respected. Like, you choose to win a fight, but the MC still ends up losing anyway and getting raped.

The rest is pathetically awful. The plot is garbage with no consistency; it starts into a realistic setting and suddenly shifts into sci-fi and fantasy, it's like I'm reading two different piece of work. And its so brain rotted I had to put it in skip mode to avoid losing any more iq points.

The characters are all the same in personality; they lack any depth to keep me slightest interested . The men are just horny assholes and the women are all sluts.

The protagonist isn't even pretty; she's anatomically bizarre. She looks like those celebrities who get dozens of plastic surgeries trying to be "perfect", but instead end up looking like a human ken. Everysingle girl in this VN ( for as long as i played ) have the same body model, with impossible thin waist and massive tits to point it become a silly trope.

at least the H-content should be good, right? No, the animations are stiff, the scenes are bland, no fetish, no creative dialogue that makes it spicier - no surprise since the entire narrative content is a total disaster.

I'm only giving it 2 star because, as I said, there are many choices, which is something i love, but there's nothing else to praise here.

Good port, much more convenient on Renpy.
The game itself is good, animations and sex scenes are simple but it does the job.
The porn logic of it is just too much, in the end it would be better to see more realism in human reactions confronted to sex.
The SF part is... unnecessary to me.

If I was just reviewing the original game itself, it'd be 2 stars. Playing this in RPGMaker would be pretty boring.
The choices just boil down to "win to skip sex scene" and "lose to see sex scene". You're kind of encouraged to lose on purpose if you want see more scenes. Not much gameplay is involved, it's purely a CYOA novel.
As for the story, it starts out fairly reasonable. Protagonist is a cop trying to deal with crime, love, and corruption in her department. It quickly descends into a clusterfuck of sci-fi and fantasy elements that feel like they were developed in separate chapters (and perhaps by separate people) because there's no cohesion. Not that the story really matters here, but it's still very bizarre. There's a weird pregnancy mechanic (the protagonist can get pregnant and deliver a full grown baby in 7 days because reasons).
Still, the models and animations are solid, and so it's worth a playthrough or two to see everything.

Overall: 6.7/10 (I gave 5 stars despite the 6.7 rating because I love impregnation & creampie themes, and also cuz it's Renpy)

So glad that Doshima decided to pick this up after Phalzyr abandoned it. It's even easier to navigate around now than before and you could just pick whether you want Manila to get pregnant or not.

Great game! The realism in the designs and the animation somewhat lacking, compare to other top games, but the story and the emphasis on the choices skyrockets the rating of the game for me. I've played the game many many times, and each time I follow an other path. It's great that almost every choice has a real effect. I am looking forward for the continuation of the story.

I always loved Manila Shaw Blackmail's Obsession with one exception I hated the fact it was on RPGM. That's not to say I don't like RPGM games, some of my favourite adult games are RPGM games but I hate it when RPGM is used in a format that is just completely not suited for it and that is definitely the case with Manila Shaw so it really prevented me from enjoying the amazing content the game had to offer

But that brings us here to the Renpy port by Doshima. This fixes that issue and thus makes a flawed RPGM game a perfect Renpy game

One of the main issues with this game on RPGM is that it was very tedious and you spent most of your time going from point A to point B and while combat did have an impact on the h-scenes you would see, these were few and far between and because it was so tedious on RPGM it made replaying the game to see all content variations extremely frustrating

With Renpy you skip all that tedium and can just enjoy the amazing story, amazing adult renders and great h-content. Combat is still kept in but as a player choice of winning or losing which is the best we can hope for with a Renpy port. There are games out there in Renpy that actually feature a full-fledged combat system so the original game definitely could have been done in Renpy

RPGM is best suited for open world non-linear or semi-non-linear games where exploration is key to content and combat, exploration and player freedom in progression plays a central role in the game's design. But that is not the case with the original Manila Shaw game and thus why the Renpy port is so popular for this game

I do hope for the next game by Abaddon that he either just makes the game in Renpy or that he continues with RPGM but uses it correctly so that it is a more open format without the tedium of Manila Shaw

But anyway the Renpy has none of that tedium yet all the quality content of the original RPGM game and it makes multiple playthroughs an absolute joy so you get the best of all worlds without any disadvantages... Beyond the lack of combat but honestly the original game's combat system is nothing to write home about so its loss is yet again a big plus in my eyes

Great corruption female protagonist AVN, sad that was made with RPG Maker, but hour hero Doshima had covered it. The thriller plot, the beautiful art, and the multi-choices that shape the FMC personality are a fantastic combo.

Just super. Once again shows that the classics are good, but not always. How the game would have benefited if it had switched to this engine. Excellent optimization of the gameplay without dull movements, incomprehensible restrictions and movements, behind which the whole meaning is lost. It is a pity, of course, that there are few animations, the version loses a little from this, but it does not get worse. I hope that in the future this issue will be resolved. I give it "excellent". I recommend it to everyone and hope for a continuation, thanks to the developer for his work, health and prosperity

This remake removes the main disadvantages from the game, namely the boring, difficult and long battles, routine and the inability to skip animations.

I recommend this game to everyone, especially if you like blackmail and pregnancy theme.

Well done Doshima for porting this masterpiece.

Technically the porting is very well delivered, easy to navigate and allows to enjoy this great classic.
