It's no secret that 99% of the games that appear here cannot be marketed on mainstream social media for obvious reasons.

We figured of trying some very SFW variations to see how it goes. However these variations do take time, and a lot of it sometimes.

If you post on mainstream, what techniques do you use when posting there to lower the amount of time spent on creating additional materials? (saw some posts with emojis on the sensitive areas, or pixelated, etc, these usually don't work on some platforms such as tiktok)

Edited: made it more clear that I was talking about spending time, not money

This is our SFW version

This is the slight NSFW which was barely posted:

We were lucky we're gonna use the furry dressed up and undressed too, so I think it took about 1h to make the SFW portrait mode video after we had the nsfw one made (which took a bit longer to put together). So with assets done, 1h more for SFW.
Was it worth it?
Remains to be seen I guess...

I have tried to explore the lore of my game on my twitter posts. But that might be something to avoid .... My results have been crap.

Considering abandoning that.

* tiktok: 37 views. My other videos there (of some dogs, of random life crap) have between 200 and 1000.
* imgur: 42 views and -12 in voting (12 down votes)
* youtube shorts: 27 views, 0 likes
* facebook: 3 likes, 335 views
* instagram: 23 plays, 1 like

Pretty useless and until now, a huge waste of time.

Honestly I feel like the best way to advertise is by being an active member in the adult game industry. Create something that you like, and it's pretty much a guarantee that someone else out there will also find it fun enough to play (provided the game is made well).

Adult Visual Novels aren't exactly super marketable, it's more of something that people seek out. I feel like the only exceptions are crappy mobile games and random porn sites that host multiple games, which are inevitably bloated with ads and viruses.

That being said, I think if a game isn't too niche, then it could find some success being published on other platforms like Steam, itch.io, etc. Take the game Sisterly Lust for example - incredibly successful because it targets plenty of common kinks/interests, it's published to multiple platforms like Steam and itch.io, and it's also heavily published on multiple porn pirating sites.

And it's popularity grew from players in the adult game industry, not from random Tiktok ads. The average person has no interest in playing porn games, so it makes sense to target your efforts towards the small percentage of people that do.

How much money did you spend running all of these ads? I'm curious how the stats would compare if you were to advertise on actual porn sites and not popular social media sites.
