Unity - Max the Elf [v5.13] [T-Hoodie]

Very nice side scroller game.
Has many great animations!!!! and cool Gallery implementation.

Would be nice to have :
1) make in-game movements more sharper, right now it is somewhat floaty
2) have possibility to rebind control keys.

God-tier animations and an easily accessible gallery give this 4 stars from me. I also quite like the way the gallery is designed, where you load up animations you want to see and play them in sequence. The gallery is also a pretty neat, well designed space on its own, featuring the main antagonist watching you in your glass box as you get stuff done to you.

Gameplay was pretty undeniably an afterthought by comparison.

The art and animation for the H-Scene are great, but the gameplay is absolute shit on shit. Like, just sell this as an animation pack or something. I don't think I've ever played anything that had this bad of gameplay. There's a billion enemies flying around the screen, your attacks don't do anything to them, you move as slow as shit, and trying to break out takes forever. Just utter garbage. Just cheat and watch the animations.

good, but can be better. the art and animation in this game is great, the gallery feature is just really nice if you don't want to endure a sidescrolling video game - but some main issues i have is with the speed of the player and hitboxes the player interacts with. some of them just don't make sense, and it's a little infuriating to restart. HOWEVER, this is all negated by the artwork and animation - it even stirred up some emotions for me, which was intersting - no game i've ever played on this site has ever done that for me.

I can't believe I saw a guy get turned into a succubus before a girl. I want to talk to the manager of H-Games.

Max the Elf is a game about a femboy elf who has been cursed by a femboy succubus for...some reason. (The game says the story is a work in progress). That word? Femboy? You best get used to it, because you're going to be hearing it a lot. To solve this terrible crime, Max needs to walk slowly from left to right, avoiding a number of femboys who want to fuck him. In fact, every character here is a femboy. If you're here for girls, you best keep moving, because there's only one girl here and it's Max occasionally when he's transformed. If he cums five times, he's corrupted and you get a nifty game over screen based on who beat you.

So you may ask, Angel, she who loves Fem-protagonist games, why are you even playing a game with no females? First of all, I want to argue that submissive femboys count. Second of all, the porn in game is actually...really well done. It's one of those games that you can see the developer actively getting better as the game progresses; the later levels even have disgustingly good voice acting. Pretty much every enemy has three animations, depending on how close Max is to cumming, and I'm going to be honest, the art and character design is good. I'd personally let any of these enemies fuck me.

Honestly, though, where this game loses me is the controls. It uses WASD for movement...but Q and E for attacks. Fortunately, you can change it (and I imagine the mobile controls are more intiutive) but it does show a lack of understanding in control design. This might just be me, but they also feel really slow to respond. It's not a fatal flaw, but it is something to get used to when playing the game.

The difficulty curve here is pretty great, if brutal. Just when you feel like you've gotten a good handle on how to keep yourself uncorrupted to the exit, the game throws you more curveballs. Technically, every enemy is avoidable, but since they tend to spawn at random, you can easily get mobbed at later levels. Plus, as you advance in levels, you have to really start to think on how to avoid/defeat enemies, rather than just mindlessly pressing your attack/jump/slide buttons.

All in all, this is a game I plan to follow. If you don't like gay sex or weirdly difficult walking games, this one is probably a skip. If you do like those things and are looking for an enjoyable romp of femboy sex, it's a can't miss.

Sfx are great and the moaning is hot, zoom in feature is a nice touch, Gallary is amazing. Variety in scenes is great as well. Though some more characters like Sophie and Ray who just ride him would be nice. Maybe even some big characters riding him? Some of the characters you cant even dodge or get away from like the tenties, when hitting a and d it doesnt even register half the time so you cant even get out of it and by the time you get there the creatures do too much so you get corrupted immediately. Then theres a fucking glitch where youre stuck crouching. Other than that its pretty decent if only a little frustrating at times.

The art, animations, and voice acting are extremely well-done.

The actual gameplay is perhaps the slowest, clunkiest, and most unresponsive side-scroller I have ever played. I do not find the gameplay to be fun at all.

Also, I am not a fan of the music, but I appreciate that at least it has music.

The gallery can be unlocked with a password, and this is this game's saving grace.

peak femboy game. Followed it from itch to here for years and will continue to support the dev by every expansion if it means there will be more from this dev.

The gameplay is simple, but a classic staple of games like these where you're rewarded for both winning or losing. The game isnt too difficult to frustrate you when you're not really looking for a challenge. 11/10

Before anything else, I want to clarify that this review mainly combats the gameplay (I'll elaborate on that). I don't normally review but I was absolutely exacerbated by how horrible and infuriating the gameplay was. Let me explain:

Movement - By itself, I don't have much to say about them, as my complaints mainly center on the enemies. I will say that they should elaborate on how the punch is ranged and that the slide has a cooldown, would've been real helpful against certain enemies. Speaking of enemies...

Enemies - Having to deal with the enemies is easily the worst part of the game in my opinion. First off, you will sometimes just get an absolute BS combination of enemies that you can do nothing about (like a slide-blocking enemy against an enemy that you primarily have to slide against, like that enemy with the drone). Second off, the fact that you can't see behind you means that it can be difficult to time your jump and avoid the enemies that come from behind (especially since your backwards movement speed and drift is slower!). Third off, you can't skip the cutscene when fighting the boss, meaning that each time you get hit once, you have to sit through it every single time for what felt like years with no way to skip. It did not help that it wasn't made clear I could attack them during their blade attack

I truly hope that these gameplay issues will get addressed, and that this game becomes a fun game to play and a good game for others to goon to.

The animations are superb, the motions are very fluid and the facial expressions very well crafted. I didn't mind repeating the same animations more than once, which I usually try to avoid in those types of games.

The gameplay is a bit meh, but it's easy enough that I never had to repeat the same level more than twice, and the ratio of new animations to time spent playing is very good, so it never gets boring. I will say however, that if you end up struggling more than I did, you might not have a good time.

It's a very short game right now, but mostly because it does not waste your time. I recommend highly.

Great animations, and good amount of enemies. I would recommend a difficulty selector of maybe easy/normal/hard to help some players. When this game is finished it will be a 5 star game. Also maybe another minotaur chick?

This is a great game but it not cmpleted yet and you can notice that in the lack of content, but aside that is fun to play and the animations and VA are great.
I recommend it to play it, i hope the Dev fisnish ths game one day but its seems kind of abandoned 7/10 (sorry for my bad english)

Story Time

The story is kind of like Mario where your friend gets captured by an evil succubus and you have to find her and save your friend. There is not much explanation apart from that and some new characters are introduced as level bosses but the story never gets really interesting but that's not what the game is focusing on. This game is a hentai game in it’s literal sense it’s not a good game sprinkled with some hentai scenes to spice it up.

Gameplay

The game is really monotonous and very easy your character walks really slowly through the 5 available levels and fights a boss at the end starting at level 2. Your character has some tools at his disposable to interact with the enemies. You have your jump which is very floaty and keeps you in the air for a long time but the horizontal distance that you can travel with it is rather small. You can punch which is a projectile attack that can hit back or destroy certain enemies which has sadly a abysmal start up and a lot of end lag. You also get a slide which is very strong you destroy most of the enemies instantly but it has a cooldown so you cant spam it and lastly you have a special attack that can wipe the entire screen but you can only use it three times.
While that sounds like a lot for this kind of games the options are poorly implemented and some traps are really difficult to get through without using your limited special attack and that's why it is good that the game is very easy because it would frustrating to repeat the level over and over just to get hit by a few luck based traps that are borderline unavoidable.

Hentai

Apart from the gameplay the hentai scenes are good there are about 4-6 per level and all of them have a game over animation. They also cover a lot of fetishes you have slimes, futas other traps and tentacles for the most part. The pixel art is also very well done you can zoom in and enjoy the action at a decent quality. You can do all that in the levels or by visiting the gallery. At the time of writing this review level 5 was not added in the gallery because I played the game one day before 5.02 came out and i don’t plan to revisit it that fast.
There are some bugs in the gallery or some things are not pointed out properly so I wasn't able to see how to avoid getting stuck when watching the game over CG at manual because you are, as far as i know locked in the cg and can only get out by exiting the gallery entirely, it’s not a deal breaker or takes much time at all but it feels very unpolished.


Closing thoughts


The game feels like a relic of old times where a lot of hentai games were made like this but I think hentai games have evolved over time to keep the players engaged with things like story or a good or innovative but fun gameplay loop. Max the Elf is a good hentai game if you look for a quick fap but the gameplay is very boring I think it would be even better without the gameplay and just the gallery with all the enemies. The time the game is already in develpoment is kind of long for what was delivered. It was posted nearly 4 years ago which also means that you get around 1.25 levels per year. Which is in my opinion not much but I’m not versed in game development and I also don't know how the resources are being distributed.

TLDR: Good hentai scenes bad gameplay

Look, as a gallery the game is good as hell, a lot of really good animations about a sub femboy getting fucked by other femboys, futas or slimes, there's a good variety of fetishes and everything is cool on the H part

The part where everything kinda starts to crumble is where you realize you're not just looking at the gallery from some porn site but actually playing the game and the playing the game part is actually kinda shit even by H game standards, It's not the Wolf rpg kinda thing where the game is hard as nails and you have to get used to movement or the eris dysnomia where the more you lose the more your character gets corrupted and it's easier and easier to lose, it's more like the controls feel like garbage, your basic attack/swept does jackshit and you only have 3 uses of your actual good attack

all and all the game is still incredibly easy thanks to fact that you can get caught 5 times and the fact that enemies sometimes to not spawn for prolonged periods of time

This is one of the worst controlling games I have ever had the displeasure of suffering through. Not only that, there's tons of bullshit forced dialogue that insta-kills you if you don't pay attention to every single shitty detail in a game you just want to be over because you can't even attack at a reasonable pace. Game's shit, dev's shit, this "game" is never gonna get finished, move on to better pastures.

Addendum: I had to LITERALLY BOOT UP CHEAT ENGINE to enable speedhacking so I could skip the 18 hour unskippable cutscenes that happen every single time you lose to bullshit hitreg and nonsense timing situations. This isn't a game. This is a cheap imitation of one. It shows that it's been made by an artist who doesn't know the first thing about decent game design.

Another porn game with stellar art marred by 2000's era gameplay and a lazy developer dragging things out as long as humanly possible. New content comes out hilariously slow, the gameplay never improves, and as the money goes up, results go down.

First the bad: the gameplay just sucks and would be 1-2 stars. Much to slow, clunky controls, not a lot of variety in what you have to / can do.

But damn, that elf is cute and the animations are good. Solid 5 stars there. I would totally love to play a game by another developer / programer, but illustrated / animated by T-Hoodie. For example Tales of Androgyny would be much better with this style. You can guess the quality of the art style by the title pic in this thread.
