I think being as close to the original sprites as possible is the way to go for parody games. Makes them hit harder if you have played the original its based on.

Yeah, I played a few pywright games back in the day, most of them had some decent sprite edits but still felt like ace attorney sprites. And then there were a couple that made totally original sprites and cg and it just clashed so much.
