Depends really. If seeing the MC is something essential to the story, maybe your character is modelling for instance, then it can have a place. On the whole I'm not keen on seeing the MC. It's not easy to put yourself in the MC's position if you're imagining yourself as a cute little schoolgirl then the first time your see yourself you actually turn out to be a big beefy Russian shot putter.

Yes, CAUSE ITS NOT ME fucking these digital girls, its the MC !! Obviously I agree people shoiuldnt pick shitty male models for the MC unless they plan on making a crappy NTR game, in that case pick a gross short out of shape dude with a soyboy face.
EDIT - I mean for every crappy Honey Select MC, you get some decent ones (also aside from the lame hair the dude from Culture Shock isnt that bad, and he's stuck in a crappy "cuck game" so he isnt gonna be Mr Suave to begin with. I mean examples of some good MC's are:

I prefer not seeing the MC at all (except occasionally see his dick when there's a woman present).
imagine if people drew comics without ever showing the mc's face. or made movies. john wick without ever showing keanu's face. shining without nicholson. star trek without shatner or patrick stewart. wolverine without hugh jackman.
I'm always amazed how common it is in western VNs. I'm sure I'm wrong, but it always feels like the dev was some little brat who's played too much FPS games so he doesn't even get how insane not showing the mc's face is.
otoh, there's at least one good reason for it regarding DAZ. especially the g3 male models are so incredibly badly modeled it's insanely difficult to make them not look like assholes. they're like three levels inferior to how the females look. awful eyes, awful mouth, awful nose, wonky back. no amount of sliders can fix the badly designed geometry, just like nothing can fix the crotch. also there's almost no variety in clothes nor hair, so everything tends to look like characters you've seen before. I can understand why people might want to avoid that whole shit show by not showing the mc.
but it's still incredibly weird.

You are comparing porn games with comics or regular movies and TV-shows. If you compare it with porn, you have POV porn, which is about putting yourself in the position of the guy doing the fucking. You are that dude. Seeing another dude fucking is not as immersive. That doesn't mean POV porn is objectively better, it's a matter of taste. I personally don't care much for it because you're missing out on a lot of camera angles. So a good compromise in my view is porn games where you get to keep all the different sex positions and viewing angles, but you don't see the MC's face. To me, that's not a big deal either way in most porn games. I can play both. Variety is good.
It's different though in real porn games, because then you have different actors playing the MC, so in my real porn game I go out of my way not to show the MC's face.
I actually kinda hold the belief that a featureless MC serves as a sort of Tabula Rasa to make self-insertion easier. With movie stars it isn't the same because nobody really watches John Wick to pretend they are John Wick, they watch it to see John Wick kick ass. But playing porn games only to be a third party helping some guy screw a character that you find sexually attractive seems a little different.

But John Wick you not watching for him to be you in a situation... The game you are the MC... Hard to see myself as anything but me, but when they give the MC a face now it aint me.

Why not just show face in normal dialogue scenes and then hide the face during sex scenes? There's a lot of uses for showing the MC's face outside of sex, such as showing emotions or showing that the MC is obviously not looking where he's supposed to.
Eh, I don't mind it, but since they sometimes make them greasy or oily or ugly bastards for no reason, I can see that as somewhat of a turnoff.
