v0.5 update:
  • All cutscenes will now be done in-game, no more Koikatsu cutscenes
  • New models for: Kenta, Akemi, Nobu, NPC A, NPC B
  • Animated School Intro Scene
  • Animated Apartment Scene
  • Revised game summary
  • Revised game ideas/script

Copy of what I wrote on my Patreon:
Hello everyone! Another update to the game. This past month I've been... flipping the whole thing upside down multiple times... until I landed on the decision to do away with Koikatsu cutscenes and have them be done purely via in-engine animations. I felt that immersion was being broken by flipping between Koikatsu cutscenes and in-game graphics, and also I was essentially going to do DOUBLE the amount of work by continuing with Koikatsu scenes. I would need to make the scenes in Koikatsu, recreate them in low-poly for the game and then animate twice to make it fit nicely. So, I just decided to do it all in-game!

For that however, I had to create models and learn how to rig models, which did cause some frustrations until I got it right. As you can see I went through two models before I landed on the one I wanted. I also created all the male models, and then the animations for them too! So, I've redid the school intro, and also I've animated the apartment intro cutscene too! Finally, having said all that and with these big decisions of the past two months out of the way, I think I will be able to progress the game a lot more now these coming months.

v0.6 update:
  • Reworked character models for: Akemi/Kenta/Nobu
  • The Inn lady, Obaba, now exists
  • Cleaned up a lot of the animations and files
  • Akemi now has jiggle physics, curtesy of a newly upgraded buttocks and breasts
  • Kenta's room had a massive makeover
  • The game now runs at 640x360, and has a new default font for readability
The options menu layout has been reworked; it's now appropriate for a horror game.
  • The script has been revised
  • As a placeholder, I've given all characters their own voice using AI, in order to allow for more precise animation timing - these will be replaced with actual voice actors, because I don't like AI.
  • Not included in the update is a trio of ghoul variants I've created for a future update. There is also an animation I put some work on as a concept - which I've posted on the discord.
  • The school scene has been removed because I felt it had zero purpose, and was a negative to the story as it pre-explained the relationship dynamic between Kenta and Nobu that would be better explored through other scenes.

Quick update on some progress:

I've spent most of this month on a single BIG change, switching from 2D faces to fully rigged 3D faces! Whilst looking better, this will also save me time in the long run, by not needing to animate blinking or facial expressions in Godot - after already doing so in Blender. (I've also changed the main character's hairstyle and eye colour)
