If the finished version of this game is just the exact same with 2-3x more content, then this'll easily be my favorite game on the site.
While appearing initially unintuitive with a unique turn-based type of platforming, you quickly notice just how good, quick and snappy it feels to play and how well the card-skill mechanics are built around this system. Even though it's just clicking, bizarrely, moving around this game feels really sharp and responsive, and you can slow down for combat to consider your options and distance from the enemies.
Compared to most other platformers on this website, which use a traditional real-time platforming system, I think MonCurse outdoes most of them while probably being easier to code and design around. Making a decent real-time platformer game is extremely difficult; I've seen so many bad animations, janky hitboxes, and wonky jumping, and overall just a lack of mechanical depth when it comes to the gameplay. MonCurse avoids all of these pitfalls by simply never engaging with them, allowing the game to focus on its strengths while standing out as unique and not bloating the scope of the project.
So, yeah, the gameplay is exceptional, and I'd recommend more solo developers consider this approach because it looks like it reduces wordload, has a lower skill floor for development, while offering more potential for its advanced mechanics due to the ease of development, all whilst having that tight pacing that lets the player run across an empty map in mere seconds.
Okay, I haven't even talked about the porn. It's in the niche of monster girl transformations, and it's better than every other game in the genre. It's a perfect combination of the act of transformation and the sexual elements that also show the effects of the transformation, which is the aspect a lot of these games miss out on. Transforming into a catgirl alone is kind of hot, but it's way more hot that the transformation was initiated via sex with another catgirl; then it's even hotter for that transformation to have lasting effects on the main character, such as putting them in heat or making them sluttier; and finally it's even more hot to get a game-over epilogue scene of them applying this same corruption and transformation to another character. And almost every unique transformation that's not in development reaches these levels of depth. It's peak, enough said.
And do I just adore how this game attaches unique abilities and movesets to these transformations too, i.e., the enemy lambs hypnotize you with their kisses, their makeup rubs off on you, your character portrait changes to have that makeup, and you gain hypnotic kisses too. MonCurse just goes above and beyond on its premise, incorporating the h-elements straight back into its gameplay.
Can't wait to see what the next updates hold in the store; the new Werewolf and Harpy are great so far.
