Ren'Py - Monster City: A Monster College Story [v0.8.1] [Monster Eye Games]

    Game version: 0.8.1.

While story-telling seems to be a forte of this dev, he doesn't seem to have improved at all in terms of animation quality- on the contrary, most of the scenes are MUCH worse than those in the predecessor! Which is a real shame, because this game is full of sex- and that's of course a good thing!
You can still spot the end of each loop, the scenes still lack different angles (which is VERY bad, as most scenes will only feature a very limited and bad angle (like macro-focus on a booty), in which you will miss many details..). To make things worse, most scenes have an animation-still image-ratio of 2/5, just as if the dev wanted to save time/ resources (especially compared to Monster College!!).

The Story is entertaining and the script it well written. The humor is never exaggerated or cringe- a rare sight. The progression makes sense, the MC is likeable (he even is some kind of anti-hero, doesn't like the spotlight and isn't overpowered right from the start), the LIs and other male NPCs are interesting.

    TLDR; Great script, bad animations.

The game offers stunning graphics and smooth controls that keep you hooked for hours. Missions are well-designed with engaging challenges. Some updates could improve performance, but overall a great experience!

This game’s a heartbreaking letdown, utterly gutted by NTR trash centered on Elissa, a love interest who’s currently a gloryhole-working, gangbang-filming OnlyFans prostitute. She’s not in a relationship with the main character yet, but that’s no excuse—this is blatant NTR, and it’s a brutal slap in the face to anti-NTR and harem fans. I backed the dev on Patreon and bought dev previous game on Steam, drawn in by its incredible potential, only to see it squandered on Elissa’s daily grind of screwing and sucking countless guys. That gloryhole scene alone is a dealbreaker, tainting her future romance arc and alienating players who crave a clean harem or meaningful story. Defenders might argue it’s not NTR since she’s not with the MC now—pure nonsense. The devs chose shock over substance, betraying fans and cheapening a game that could’ve been a masterpiece. The community’s divided, with harem lovers raging while others shrug it off. Such a shame—this game had so much promise. It could still be salvaged if the devs cut the disgusting gloryhole scene, but as it stands, this NTR garbage ensures it’s a bitter disappointment for loyal supporters.

I normally don't write reviews based on other reviews, but I needed to in this case because I feel as though the other ratings are too cynical and unfair. People keep comparing this to the author's other work. While I understand the urge to do that, I think it's causing people to ignore what this game has to offer as a standalone project.

This game is aesthetically very nice. The renders are great, but it goes beyond that. The shot composition from the very first scene is fantastic. The characters are also cool. Nox is my favorite (but that could be my bias because I like orc girls) . But other girls like Valeria the Dullahan have very distinct and interesting personalities. The only exception would be Elissa who is just your standard OF chick character.

The MC gets a lot of hate, but I actually appreciate the fact that hes neither an arrogant edgelord that acts like a jerk, or is a whiny pushover beta that lets girls punch him in the face and apologize to them after (Im referring to another game whose title I wont mention). I like that hes a vampire that seems insecure about himself but not to the point that its annoying.

The only thing I hate about the game is the free roam. I only have it enabled because you can miss stuff if you have it disabled. Under normal circumstances, I would rate this a 4, but because I think the rating is far too low for what it offers, Im giving it a 5 to help balance out this unfair score.

Honestly, I really enjoyed the game, but there 2 quests I can't even do because they seem to be bugged, one of them is for the Nox MMA event, which won't start at all, and also the MMA shower event. Everything else has worked, but those 2 quests/events i really hope the next update fixes them, but besides that, honestly, it's pretty good.

Major downgrade from the previous game. The writing, characters, and overall story became way worse. And the game has game-breaking bugs. MC here is an insufferable beta loser. One of the forced LIs is so much garbage of a woman that I even IRL wouldn't stick my dick in her if, to get her pussy, I were supposed to simp to her, deal with her BS, and respect her poor life choices. So that's it: disappointment and wasted time. I can't believe the Monster College dev created it.

So far the writing is excellent and captivating. I rarely find games that I don't skip through all the pointless dialog and ahh oohs on the sex scenes, this one though, even the sex scenes have interesting dialogue and witty banter. The renders are top notch. The animation is a little lacking, but there are some very nice ones here and there.

Edit: I have not played Monster College, I found this creator via this game, but I can say I have already downloaded it and might consider scrapping this playthrough to give Monster College a shot first.

This just doesn’t hold a candle to the previous game. The main character feels less engaging and doesn’t have the same depth, strength, or charm, which makes it harder to stay invested in his journey.

The love interests also fall flat compared to the last game, they lack the complexity and memorable personalities that made the previous cast so compelling. On top of that, the story itself isn’t nearly as strong; it feels less immersive, with weaker pacing and fewer emotional highs. Overall, it comes across as a step backward rather than an evolution of what made the first game so great.

Not liking the sandbox change, or rather, losing out on content if you don't pick sandbox mode, that being said, it does allow players to prioritize certain LI's more, and you can skip others this way, so I won't knock it too much.

I like the story so far, it's a solid continuation, and Dagomira being Headmistress is a funny twist. That being said, I usually name the MCs after myself, and while I could have also named this MC after myself, the last MC has that name, so I figured I'd go with something different. It's a cool continuation, but also flawed in that respect if you want to self-insert.

It's good, it's nice to see the author continue in this world they established and I look forward to more, although I will say I still prefer the original's pacing because it wasn't sandbox.

Also, maybe I'm stupid, but I did find it slightly annoying that I had to go back home to check my laptop to see my tasks. I think a phone option would solve that bit of tedium.

The MC is incredibly lame in this game, compared to the first one.. Incredibly weak and Beta.

The renders are excellent as usual, and it deseves at least 1 star for it, but everything else is ass. Gameplay and choices are ass. It is the fake sandbox kind of game were the sandbox just exists to waste player time and not add any gameplay element. The dev added a linear mod, but half the scenes are missing from it, so I don't understand the point other than to piss off the players.

Loved the previous one. This one's got a great start as well. Hope it ends well and doesn't have a rushed ending like the last one. Good to see some familiar characters in there. Hope to see some more in the future.

I'll be honest I did not play the sandbox (I hate them) and was really disappointed seeing it but after playing the story mode I cannot give any lesser rating everything was so hyped looked even better then monster college in my opinion. Cannot wait for next updates, I might even try the sandbox eventually I guess it is not that bad based on other comments.

Oh man, the sequel to Monster College.. here we go... Oh, hell no… Sandbox? Arrrgh, screw it. Let’s give it a shot.

And boy, am I glad I did. This game is SUPERB. I genuinely enjoyed every second of the 0.1 update. Was it exceptionally long? No. But was it long enough? Absolutely. (That’s what she said.)

For a first release, the amount of content is impressive—not just decent, but genuinely delivering. From exploring the school courtyard to grabbing a bite in the canteen, every scene is engaging, and there’s always something interesting happening. The characters? Fantastic. Each one is well-developed, fits seamlessly into the story, and adds to the immersion.

The game strikes a perfect balance—it’s fun, but also carries a serious tone. There’s a little psychological beatdown of the MC, a strong sense of revenge brewing, and a mystery unfolding that keeps you hooked. You actually want to uncover the secrets.

As for the sandbox? Yeah, I panicked at first, but credit where it's due—the devs delivered on their promise. It’s well-designed, and avoids tedious grinding or pointless filler. Navigation is seamless, and even the MC’s laptop social hub looks sleek and functions beautifully.

Overall, this game is shaping up to live up to its predecessor—maybe even surpass it. As the MC, I can only hope for a satisfying revenge arc and an even deeper mystery to unravel.

I’m eagerly looking forward to more of this gem. Huge props to the devs!

We couldn't expect anything less from the creators of Monster College. The presentation is magnificent and the story is entertaining. Congratulations on this new adventure and this gift for all of us.
