Ren'Py - Monster Girl Dreams [v27.1a Alpha] [Threshold]

Can't believe I hadn't done a review for this one, been playing for a very long time, this is one of the best games on here, hands down. Combat is fun, writing is outstanding and art is gorgeous, plenty of kinks for just about everyone (except for the super freaks, but fuck them)
And unlike many many devs, as of writing this review, Threshold has kept it up, no going months without any meaningful content updates, no getting stuck on "revamps" or "overhauling"

The Good

• Writing - well written with surprisingly few typos or grammatical errors. Nothing too original, but tropes exist for a reason - people like them
• Battle system - robust, many options, different stats to min/max, lots of things to buy with in-game currency
• Artwork - a variety of monster girls
• Performance - no issues playing the game - yay!

The Bad

• Animation - little to speak of - though there are some changes in poses
• Minutiae - there is a LOT seemingly going on with the battle system; however, I'm unsure if the text tutorials are actually that helpful when most people are just here for the smut
• Sound - background music is good and inobtrusive, but the game could likely be improved with a few lewd sound effects
• Content - other reviewers have already commented on this - it could use more content

There seems to be a few ways to play the game - embracing a min/maxed character, succumbing to corruption, etc. I haven't had a chance to try every playstyle though. The content is unlikely to be for everyone given the emphasis on femdom/maledom, but it should satisfy those who are into that. The game seems well made so far. It's a smut game and it knows it - unlike many other "lewd" games that insist on forcing you to play hours of content without seeing any nudity.

This is one of those games I'm just genuinely devastated to have gotten to the end of (the current content for), absolute 10/10. The number one thing I can say about this game is that it's genuinely fun. The story is simple and tropey but surprisingly well thought out as far as the world goes.

The H scenes are well written and creative in the case of a lot of the monster girls - you can have a standing 69 with a batgirl hanging from the ceiling, get milked by a slimegirl blanket, fuck a manticore's tail-pussy, etc. There's a diverse number of fetishes catered to and the game is lighthearted with even the kinkier sex mostly being either passionate or sweet. The art is nothing incredible and there's no animation but it's endearing, often sexy and serves to give a solid visual representation for the characters in what is mostly a text-based game, helping stoke the imagination.

The combat is turn-based (Final Fantasy style) and the mechanics are engaging and fun without bogging the game down as the case can often be with RPGs in the H-game sphere. There was only one instance where I really felt the need to grind at all and it didn't take particularly long, and after the first proper dungeon I was able to get through most areas in one spurt with the more tedious NPCish enemies being easy to beat/escape from and dungeons having a set, small number of encounters (so you're not just running around running into random encounters constantly and you can just pick the best bosses to grind if you feel the need).

The characters and dialogue are by far the highlight here - virtually all of the major characters are waifu material despite mostly having unique personalities. Every single one of them is endearing in their own unique way and the game is full of conversations and sweet moments that just had me grinning from ear to ear. Many of the girls currently have extended interactions that allow you to spend time with them, get to know them and stoke a more loving/romantic dynamic.

As a final note I would like to point out that although the game is tagged with rape all of the characters are very enthusiastic participants in all the sexual encounters. I mean, technically battlefucking is rape and the girls fuck you to unconsciousness when you lose so I'm not saying the tag is unwarranted but there's nothing bleak here, both the MC and all the enemies are quite happy to cum their brains out. I'm mainly just bringing this up so no one gets the wrong impression since this is a genre that has some very hardcore content sometimes.

Peak and surprisingly immersive, I thought I would hate text based games, but alas I was wrong, the gameplay is polished the girls are are well drawn/written and the best part of the game is that its lighthearted, no drama, no needless heartbreaking plot twists and no violence(your character will get "abused" tho but again, not in a dark way). Game is fun to play, but one small complain I do have, even tho the game does a brilliant job at painting a picture through words, some scenes would really benefit with some Visuals.

Mongirldreams does exactly what it sets out to do. And it does it really well.

While the overall progression is linear, there is a ton of variety with side content and encounters to experience. The characters are diverse and interesting, each with compelling personalities that are pleasant to learn about. And the gameplay itself is engaging and not trivial, at least on hard mode.

For the scenes and encounters, the player is provided with a significant amount of control. At the same time, the situations seem reasonable and make sense in the context of the world and characters' personalities.

Overall I'd say it's well-written and there's plenty to enjoy and go back to.

Obviously, many things could be improved... from the amount of art, to the amount of content, to the complexity and depth of the gameplay, to the overall user experience...

But the drawbacks are just a matter of quantity and amount of work. Given the low-budget nature of the game's development, the quality exceeds expectations and is easily top-tier in its "text based BFRPG" category.

Perhaps with more support and time, there would be room for more polish. For now, it's still an excellent experience worth many hours of polishing

Grindy to the point of mind numbing game
with a lot of perks and quite revolutionary use of Renpy engine for RPG
while game is relatively easy to play progress anywhere require insane patience and repeat of same actions over and over again
game create massive pitfalls in build and interactions

entire game is made for and by femdom fetishist without consent or anything good to shine in the dark
game openly reward repeating same actions to unlock perks or whoring yourself in the brothel for eternity to afford equipment

in endgame shit gets even worse as now player force stacked femdom curses turning the game into awful slop of repeatition to outgrind the penalties while GAME CHOKE on performance in labirinth
its not the android phone, its not the weak PC, engine can barely run these labs 3 and 4 are just awful

GAME HAVE AMAZING POTENTIAL and past versions used to be golden, but now its just unplayable, grindy, slow and full of unconsensual rapy femdom game
if you can stomach it all you will get hours of cool gameplay once your build outscale the enemies

Probably my favourite hentai game ever made. The combat system is interesting, and hot, and there is CONSTANT progression. There's so many routes you can go down, and the ability to play on either easy or hard mode lets people have the breadth of choice they want. The art is great too - my only complaint is that there isn't MORE, but the updates have been hefty. Worth trying, and probably buying down the line, all things considered.

Absolutely fantastic game.

Excellently written story with the various characters all having their own backstory and personality. They experience personal growth as you go through their story which is something lacking in tons of professionally produced media.

The H-Scenes lean more to the femdom side, though most of it is generally tame. They're well written and actually depict scenarios rather than just solely consisting of moaning sounds.

The combat system is fairly good, though I did find it ending up repetitive as I progressed later into the game. There were a few fights I struggled with on the first try, possibly due to being underleveled, but they certainly presented a challenge. Unfortunately as the game progresses you become substantially stronger and it is easy to end up overleveled. There are some mods that can help with this, which I recommend players taking a look at if they're finding the fights too easy.

While I wouldn't recommend this game on the merits of gameplay alone, the writing and characters more than make up for it and I highly recommend this game.

Honestly, it's astonishing what was accomplished in fucking Ren'Py of all engines — this is a full-fledged turn-based RPG, and it's a good one at that. There are some pretty tough fights in here, and I like the system where you can choose what you encounter in a given dungeon as a sort of soft difficulty setting. A vast majority of the erotic content is textual, with only a handful of dedicated CGs in the whole game, but the writing is fantastic. Highly recommended for fans of RPGs and monster girls.

I love BF games and this one absolutely appeals to me. The art is usually great, the writing is decent, and the game actually has real gameplay - the combat isn't mindless like in most other games. However, I’m giving it only 2 stars due to the lack of CGs - apparently, a new one is released only once every two months! For a developer earning $3,000 per month, this is just ridiculous.

The plot is fairly simple, you're an adventurer gallivanting across a land where monster girls can't hurt you, but apparently raping you till you ressurect in town is fine. Choosing the wrong line of dialogue or losing combat will result in sex.

The visuals:
Most of what you'll see consists of a single sprite awkwardly layered on top of a background. The sprite rarely reacts to anything, the combat and sex will mostly happen in your head. The design of the girls is much closer to cute than sexy and half the girls don't even have a naked sprite.

The combat:
Let's begin with stats and items. The attributes are poorly telegraphed, there's 4 main attributes - str, dex, magic and charisma (pick 1), and 4 secondary ones with hp being mandatory. The feats are pretty good, but the tiny window to pick them is terrible and you'll mostly put points everywhere for resistances. Finally the equipment is interesting but the UI for it is quite mediocre and sorely lacking icons.
As for the combat itself it's pretty balanced across the board. There's some grinding towards the end with large difficulty spikes, notably in the labyrinth (which is terrible btw) and after. The biggest issue with the combat is that it's merged with the dialogue, so you'll be clicking a handful of times after every action.

The writing:
Paragraphs everywhere and you can't rollback, Renpy is really not made for this. Most characters are one and done so you don't really have a chance to connect with the characters. There's some decent humor and the English is good, but the eroticism is lacking.

It's peam. It's kino. Yes, perhaps even a little poggers.

I expected something generic and yet its charm peeked through right from the character creation screen. And it didn't just stop there. The breadth of content is on the scale of something like Monster Girl Quest 1, and the quality feels higher (or is just more in line with my tastes). Character interactions go much deeper since you can revisit conquered areas, and the characters themselves all have a lot of personality. Even the combat has a bit of depth to it, requiring you to diversify your build and do things other than just push damage like in most rpgs.

So what holds this game back?

At the moment it's mainly content. Some newer characters (like a couple of the hellhound sisters) have interesting first encounters, a dialogue tree to go through after clearing them, and then nothing else. That's to be expected in most games like this, but this game sets a different standard and so it feels kind of empty. The plot is also unfinished and has arguably barely even started. It's broad strokes stuff and a single event with stakes. I'm far more motivated to go to new areas to see new characters than to get closer to the nebulous goal of "beating the demon queen."

Still, none of that is worth dropping a star to me. If a game has a lot of content and my only issue is that it left me wanting more then, well, that's good isn't it? Most good media is like that. I'll happily wait for more updates, and if they never come the game is in a fine state as-is.

i think the problem with text adventure games is either the text is good or the art is good, rarely both. With Monster Girl Dreams, the text had interesting and well written scenes while the art was also high quality (sometimes, girls will have different images for different stances/poses too). Good game.

Surprisingly good

Its a nice touch that each move invoke different reaction from the monster and when I thought the game gone stale, each temple able to introduce different mechanic to mix the pace, but I think a better UI would help the game immensely since the dialog is a bit low from the scene and there is no way to increase font size for better readability

• having 2 different dialogue box could help, one for speech and the other is for lore or description

The game statistic is where it shines, ability to customize weakness, rune and equipment found in exploration, and special ability/perks has a nice way to personalize your character.
Sadly the stat is a bit linear since there is no min max stat which can help personalizing character build and personality, choosing dominant one would make Player character prone to be grappled or unable to sweep the girl efficiently.

Overall way solid for a demo and I hope to see more characterization from the mob monster as well

Monster girl quest ran a marathon so that monster girl dreams could reach the stars. This is the star of porn games, the Monalisa of horny and wholesome and is somehow a good game as well?! The characters I am entranced by and erotic writing so good it is the main draw, both sub and dom play, gorgeous art, a fantastic rpg battle system and a decent story. This game has no equal when it comes to guilt free fun.

Lose scenes, win scenes, scenes where you self your self for money, romance, becoming a paypig twice, there is just so much content packed into such a small amount of time. Not a on this game is wasted, I am engaged and excited on every playthrough because I can try a new build.


The game has modding features for those so inclined, what a legend of a game.

I have to say that this is the best adult game ever made at this point. It's perfect for dudes who are vanilla with a bit of spice on top. The writing is exceptional, and the battle fuck elements are very well integrated.
It is a bit insane to me to see games with no content and terrible writing achieve a rating similar to this game. People forget that the brain is the biggest erogenous zone.

the game is good, I really liked it although I'm not sure if I'll follow it yet, and the reason I don't rate it 5 stars is because the author prefers to describe the situations rather than show them in images,

for example, the sex scenes, whether with a monster girl in the tavern or in a dungeon, the author places the girl's icon on the screen while describing what she is doing to the player,
Basically our imagination does most of the work.

I would probably enjoy it more and I would like it more if I were fluent in English, but since I'm not, it gets tiring since the author details things excessively, for those who like details it's great, but there's a LOT of text here, and for those who It's not as fluent as I am, it gets tiring.

even though the game makes up for it in its moments of unique battles, which are based on a fight where whoever cums and is exhausted first loses the fight, having skill trees and points to distribute

and there is also a good variety of monster girls, but it lacks animated scenes.

with a simple story (defeat the demon queen) but good enough to keep you interested.

and the "female domination" theme prevails in the game, but I missed a romance or something deeper with a girl.

but this is just my opinion from my personal experience with the game, I recommend it for those who like reading, not for those who want to fap, much less for those who are imagining that this is a different type of "Pokemon Hentai" since we didn't have any monster girl for us.

It is one of the best games so far you can find for RenPy.

Detailed story, many characters you can love and bond. Decent graphic.

Only negative: More graphic is needed at this point. More unique scenes for normal monsters. More graphic for you skills and moves. Then this game will be the best.

Really entertaining, new additions fairly often, and a fun game overall with quick and to the point content, or you can take your time and get immersed in the dialogue and detail. If they at some point add animated or semi-animated scenes, its a 10/10

Great writing and simple but cute relationship stuff unlocked by interacting with characters you like. If you fall into "Gentle female domination / vanilla" categories and enjoy reading (a lot of it) I would recommend this game.

Played on Easy and balance was okay, didn't have to grind for the RPG part. Way more content than I expected, but some characters you wouldn't even know are romanceable. without using the wiki. Support this dev
