The developer branches out of homosexuality to bring us an AVN that crosses the monster girl genre with the hot-for-teacher trope. The story revolves around a human professor who is kicked out of his university to test an unfinished exchange program. To test this program, he is transferred to a monster girl university in Netherworld. Apparently, humans were previously hostile to monsters, almost driving the dragons to extinction at one point. This caused the human world and Netherworld to separate, following a widespread feeling of misanthropy. However, this public perception soon changes as the MC gets to know the girls better. Here are my pros and cons:
PROS: I came across zero bugs; the mechanics, while a psuedo-sandbox, are not difficult to navigate. The task button provides a list of all the available missions in the current version, and about half of them involves meeting new characters. Some of those characters are still being worked on; the game's progression is similar to most AVNs, but instead of just meeting a girl, you also help her with her studies; there's a lounge room in the university, where you get to meet various other professors designed by the dev's Patreon supporters; most of the love interests were likeable, with Phanta being my favorite. I've always thought she was a sweet person, and I relate to her social anxiety; the art class is used for fan art submissions; you can earn gifts for the first 3 love interests by winning tickets at the arcade.
CONS: No animations; the art is presented as original but is actually AI-generated. The official game page doesn't mention this. I'm fine with AI art, but it shouldn't be used to deceive the audience; the dev trained their AI program to copy Afrobull's artstyle. Doesn't sound too bad on its own, until you realize that they profit off of this game; only 1 voice pack is used for every love interest; later in the game, the MC's relationship with Phanta is rather toxic. In the hot spring sex scene, he moved way too fast before she even got to say anything. Every time she tells the MC to stop, slow down or that he's too rough, he responds by doing the complete opposite. The line, "I can't take it...! It's making my mind go blank...!", speaks for itself. Later, the MC gifts Phanta a fragrance, which makes her horny. He is initially weirded out by this but then takes advantage of her. Honestly, I feel like these scenes could be written better; the MC's gift for Josa is a wine bottle. They share some wine in her room which leads to sex. Sounds romantic, but I can't believe that when an intoxicated person is unable to consent.
From what I've experienced of Monster Tutor so far, it had a cool premise and lots of potential, but I think it gets dragged down by the MC rubber-banding between a kind, supportive professor and a controlling partner. I would give the game a higher rating if the MC was rewritten to stay true to himself like he was for most of the story. I also think the game would be livelier with animated sex scenes and diverse voice packs.
