More Variety in Games plot and writing

One of the biggest issues nowadays in the adult game genre is the incredible lack of variety in game plots and writing, really nearly all the games feel nearly the same with the only difference being the render and animation quality.

If you read adult stories in the internet (literotica or other) you will find that there is so much more variety and possibilities within the same themes.

Let's give you some really good examples :

The landlady/tenant relationship in games here are 99% the same, really boring and very classic, the only difference like i said is the render quality of the milf character, but there is so much more then that and i can give you an example in a story called "You couldn't handle me" by TheTalkMan ( ), man this story would have been amazing in a VN it's a complete different mechanic with jealousy, plotting, teasing, not the classical lovey-dovey shit, I really recommend you reading that, and i wish a dev will get inspired by this.

The Wife/husband relationship in this games is also really boring, you get two types of scenarios here : the harem garbage where the wife is a brainless cuckqueen or the NTR where you are a complete cuck and get constantly humiliated by a hateful woman who can be hardly considered as a wife, very few games goes for a more realistic approach like the amazing Deliverance (https://f95zone.to/threads/deliverance-ch-xii-1thousand.36263/), We can have so much better stories with more depth, you should read February Sucks by GeorgeAnderson ( ), or The Bridge by RichardGerald ( ) to see what a good NTR story could be like and not the garbage we get as a plot in this game genre.

I really hope writers will get better in adult games, of course they are not the only ones to blame, people would whine about "blue balling" if there is too much plot and not enough sex scenes, they will whine about NTR if other characters see anyone other then the MC...etc, this type of toxic behavior limit considerably the writer's freedom, so i hope the community will change and mature in that regard too.

Adult Literature and Adult Games may be similar, but they aren't exactly the same either. While I do think it would be a good idea for game devs to read some of those stories for inspiration, or even try and get into contact with some of the writers who are still around for a joint project, I'm not sure if we should be comparing the two, and honestly it may be toxic for adult gaming.

For starters, Adult Literature is a much older beast. There are hundreds of websites and forums for people to go for just about any topic, from common fetishes to the most vile and dark even down right illegal. You can truly find any community you wish that aligns exactly, or close, to your own alignment. This isn't true for adult games. While there are a few obscure forums out there, most of what is available is more of a broad spectrum of things rather than focusing on one aspect, or theme. Due to this, developers have to broaden their game out, having multiple fetishes. This causes some issues, as stories must find a way to add all of these different fetishes or themes into the story to make it at least somewhat understandable.

The second issue is the community and culture that come from each medium. Adult Literature is an ancient medium of story telling, adult stories as we know them date back to the early days of the internet. Adult gaming is different. It is a rather new concept. They played with it a bit in the 90s, but that didn't go very far and died quickly. That's how new were talking. The culture of adult gaming is still growing and evolving. Adult gaming is already radically different now than it was a few years ago when I found my first adult game. It will also be much different in a few years. It is very much tied to the same stigma and culture as modern gaming and Japanese adult gaming, while adult literature has evolved to have its own culture separate from other literature mediums.

There is also the time restraints to think about. A good writer can pump out a solid story in a single night, while adult game developers can't do this. It takes months, or even years to complete a game. That is a ridiculous time difference. Between this and the difference in culture the expectations of both developer/writer or player/reader are different for both mediums. Many of the best stories I have read have never made the writer any cash, while most developers want some form of compensation for their cash. Even in "The Bride" you posted, the writer claims they don't care about ratings, while devs will care, because ratings, fans and players means more potential revenue.

In the end, I could think of several more complications with comparing the two, but honestly I lost my motivation for typing this, and honestly I'm sure you're tired of reading this by now. I would like to see more variety, because I have been burnt out and disillusioned by adult games for a bit now, but we can't honestly compare adult games to other medias, not yet at least.

I never read those 'different' stories from literotica, I find them boring and unsatisfying. the thing about genre writing is it not only works, but is proven to work. and how ever much people call for some indescribable 'better stories', THOSE end up being the ones that don't work. reinventing the wheel is hard.

people make the stories they want to see. when you have differing opinions for what YOU'D like to see, nobody is gonna lift one finger to cater for YOUR favourite scenario. if you really want to see something else than by far the most popular scenarios, the probably only way to make that happen is creating it yourself.

don't get surprised if it doesn't pick up though. the odds for others wanting that same niche scenario you're into, are not that great. there will be some, and they will love it, but the bigger numbers simply aren't there.

doesn't mean that what you want isn't great, but there's a reason the million people who tried it before you couldn't make it work.

Good writing is hard to pull off. Good erotica is even harder. Even most AAA studios have shitty writing in their games, and they have millions of dollars and hundreds of people at their disposal. The problem with bad writing in porn games is that the people doing it are usually artists or programmers or designers first, and (rather crappy) writers only by necessity. Hell, most adult games don't have proper sentence structure, let alone competently written characters and story arcs. They're rife with spelling errors, poor syntax, childish pacing, etc.

This isn't something that can be solved by feeding aspiring devs literotica stories. It's said you need to write a million words to go from terrible to somewhat proficient with whatever language you're writing in. How many smut stories do you think your average porn game dev has written over the span of their 'career'? Very, very few, if any.

Someone like Sierra Lee is among the few who actually have a firm grasp of what they're doing.

As to how to solve this? Probably by getting semi-professional erotica authors interested in developing games alongside artists and programmers. You can't really expect someone who's spent years learning 3D modeling or C++ to also know how to write well, and then erotica of all things. Not saying those people don't exist, but they're probably few and far between.
