VN - Ren'Py - Murmur [v0.7 Hotfix] [Devil's Dad]

I felt entertained. The story is free of significant drama of any type. In fact, despite MC being called a perv on an hourly basis, the interactions with all the girls have a rather wholesome feel.
It is perhaps not the most original story that you have ever encountered but the supernatural elements and the mundane ones flow together nicely.
I'd give it a 3.5 if that was possible because it does key features right without major blunders. Ah damn, rounding rules apply.
Recommended for playing while you are waiting for updates for more interesting games.

What I liked

- we have the sporty, cute, shy, ginger, and slightly scary girls - feels like a Spice Girls reunion.

What I did not like
- As many comments before pointed out rightfully, the inner monologue is a bit much.
- The corruption does not really work. Pretty much everyone is immediately enamoured with MC and his magic D. For me the major draw of games that focus on building a harem including landladies and childhood friends is the part where you are chipping away at their defenses until they succumb piece by piece.
That is not how things go here, instead everyone is mostly ok with sharing MC because of the magic D right from the start. It feels like a wasted opportunity.

I hate writing bad reviews for a game, especially when a lot of time, effort and passion is obviously given. There has been a lot of effort spent here, and I can't criticise the models and animations, or even the generic story of a chosen one given godly powers and a magic dick, but the dialogue often makes me want to pluck my own eyes out. It is not even badly written in the way that many AVN's are, it is the tortuously long winded and unnecessary inner monologue, followed by the tortuously long winded and insipid conversations.
I almost never click through a story because good dialogue really builds and enhances a scene, but I made an exception just for Murmur.
I don't know how far through v0.7 I am (just deflowered Yui) and it feels like I have spent hours getting this far.
I don't know if I can continue, but will update if I do and if anything changes.

This game is peak content. It is amazing that it finally got a update.
Overall scees are great, girls are good and interesting, story is enjoyable, easy top 10 games I've experienced so far.

Only downdise is how long updates take.

Nowhere near enough content yet, but it's not a bad game by any means. Very light corruption and rather vanilla really, with decent writing as well. Give it a try if you're bored and don't wanna wait literal years for it to finish because that's what it is looking like.

Typical successful game from before the 20 with more and more breaking of the fourth wall the more you progress and less and less update.

Mc got resurrected in another body and need to conquer the girls for no real reason.
The kind of story that isn't good yet can be enjoyable through the dialogues and development with the girls.
But Murmur isn't. It isn't bad, it is just average boring.

The Mc isn't the usual creep of nowadays (despite having been chosen on perverseness) but he isn't interesting, making all the dialogues boring.
The girls are rather good-looking, but they aren't interesting either having troubles that don't really feel as troubles and being in love with the Mc right away.
The story doesn't exist, so there is no surprise nor actual challenge.
The gameplay had some choices to get enough points for going further on with the girls, but the dev got bored with it and just stopped it making the walk basically kinetic.

It isn't an overall 3 stars with 4/2 stars moments.
It is a 3 stars all along. Nothing stand-out in any good or bad way.
So it is just boring.

... Kind of have nothing to do with the review of the actual game but I got my save broken making me redo all the game again even though it was a save from after the remake (last update), which is, you know, pissing me off.
I mean, sure, I didn't remember anything after 3 years but seriously, for the boringness this was and the lack of update going to break a save just to add playtime is just a way to put you off.

Once again we have another "choices matter" game where the choice isn't which LI you pursue, only how you fuck all of them. There's a literal game over if you "choose" not to. At least the character models look nice

I always have a harder time with anime/hentai-inspired games because of how their characters interact with each other and how the MC reacts to things. I'll explain that in more detail later, but first, the pros!

This game is very well made, you can see the effort and polish shining through in the models, or rather the women, they are very attractive and fit their niche in the game perfectly, that being said, in my opinion, the game is a 3.5 out of/5 but that isn't a rating you can provide, and I understand why people might think it's a 5 star game but it's not for me, and I don't think there is enough to bump it to 4.

The absolute number one thing is the MC's inner monologue, it is constant, unrelenting, and droll. Any time someone says something to him, we have to hear his inner monologue before this response; it's insane. The game is holding your hand constantly telling you what the MC is thinking at all times, not respecting the audience's ability to infer details from basic conversations. You are pelted with so much unnecessary dialogue that you can drown in the first few chapters, when games make you feel like you have to POWER THROUGH dialogue instead of enjoying it, it's a problem.

Like I said, I can see the effort and polish, there is just way, way, WAY, too much unnecessary dialogue for me to enjoy this game. Please stop dictating how the character should feel about situations if you want us to react to things.

The only non 5/5 part of this game is the update times.

But, besides that, this is easily one of the highest quality games on the site. The girls are all unique and have their own distinct personality (some of the best Honey Select girl designs you'll ever see) and the choices you make with them actually matter. I like how many scenes you can get with different choices - usually in harem games, its simply a fuckfest regardless of what choice you choose - but you actually have to lock in for this game.

I love the story ,and the mc who's not a lie but to be honest to all heroines. Beside that i think i confused coz why all the heroine love the mc for the first place? but maybe that will explain in the later story. And last the shinigami thing remind me of the anime called "The world god only know" who i love so much. Thank you for making such a game ,and story. I will support the dev whatever i can.

Had been wanting to play this game for a while and was really thrown off by the start of it and genuinely considered dropping it, however I stuck with it as I had heard it was good and as I kept playing I started to enjoy it more and more. I really like the story and characters as they feel pretty real and generally had a great time with it! Excited for more updates and recommend getting through the beginning as it does get good

It's got a LOT of text, but not much actual plot IMHO. I consider this a slow burn game because despite years of development there really isn't much actual sex for a sex game.

Graphics are the best element, which is why it's a 4 star however, a word of caution is due to the slow pace of story and development, I would predict this will end in abandonment.

Play only if you can accept these issues and the non-native English dialogue.

Beautifully rendered work of art with a story that focuses on individual emotions. A little short for a V0.61 though, only 3+ hours of playtime currently.

Story
MC got killed and resurrected by a goddess into an alternate universe that requires him to romance and pick up LIs in his school so that his master can rejuvenate. That’s really all there is to it, a simple and recurring plot among AVNs, but the game’s strengths isn’t really in the main story, but more on the daily interaction and emotional engagement with the various LIs.

Game Mechanics
AVN with choices that matter. Your choices will actually affect the sex scenes that come up and also your relationship with LIs, so there’s a need to run through a few times to unlock the entire gallery.

Background / Character Renders
Very beautifully rendered and instead of the usual 3D characters and stock assets, the developer has adopted a tranquil color palette where the background and character renders actually feel somewhat Anime-ish without losing 3 dimensional depth.

There is also a lot of emphasis on facial expressions, so you will see a lot of subtle changes in the characters during interaction that matches the dialogue along the way.

The art style is unlikely to appeal to those going for realism renders, but for me it’s an innovative and beautiful approach which fits the overall mood and LI stories well.

Character Development
In a sense, each individual LI’s character development and personal growth is the main story of Murmur. Though they sort of fit into certain archetypes, the detailed interaction and subtle changes that take place during the game breathes life into them.

The MC’s interaction with his mistress is also quite interesting - it alternates between being dominated, challenged, teased and loved. Definitely much more nuanced that the usual either femdom or male dom one way interaction we see in similar stories.

Sex Scenes
Beautiful - many of them could have passed for soft porn if not for the explicit angles. There is a lot of attention to detail like camera angles, BGM, dialogue, facial expressions and animation. For e.g. the scene with Yui feels more like actually making love than fucking on a porn set.

A high thumbs up also for the animations - they are very long (not the usual 2 - 3 second loops) and the loops recur smoothly without visible jarring. Fantastic visual experience.

BGM and Sound Effects
Because of the material, most of the BGMs are on the soft side fading into the background - they are not memorable but compliment in building up the mood well.

Currently sound effects is still in testing phase and only available in the first chapter of the game, but it sounds good enough so hopefully they can be implemented across soon.

Conclusion
Murmur is one of the rare AVNs out there where one stays for the ambience and character immersion rather than a good story and sex scenes. The unique graphical style is unlikely to appeal to people who prefer realistic 3D models, but if you are open to it then this will be a fantastic experience.

Going toss MurMur a 3.8 rating. It is fairly short, especially for the length of development, though I understand it went through a remake. The quality of the remake is fairly good though, so I don't see any drawbacks for the game in deciding to do that. The only thing it did is delay the length of the story and completion of the title, which while unfortunate was overall positive.

+ Good renders - not 2024 super high quality, but good enough to attract most viewers
+ Easy to remember characters who are all very different, and likable in their own ways
+ Enough females and body types to cater to all sorts
+ Easy to follow story, which has a little twist to it (no spoilers!)
+ Some good animations, which also come with some different points-of-view to oogle

- Simple writing (and a ton of it to read). Probably due to translation it comes off more like writing a 17-yo would produce. Doesn't detract too much from the enjoyment.
- The game is (at times) a very slow burn. It still only has (as of v0.6.1) one actual sex scene (not a handjob or oral) with full-on penetration, but it's a good one. At least that's all I saw with my all-lewd choices.
- Not sure how MurMur was translated, but it has a lot of grammatical errors, Japanese (?) terms, and erroneous phrasing that didn't quite smooth out the read. Still not too bad overall though.
- As mentioned, it's short due to the remake despite having been in development a while

Still a worthwhile play if you're interested in decent AVNs, just don't think it'll carry you past ~1 day of gameplay.

It has some very good points but at the same time some very infuriating ones. The girls are all beautiful and sweet, even if very stereotypical at times. The graphics are good and the facial expressions do really reflect the girls' emotions but I dislike the 1-2-3 options to choose the scenes, especially how they don't flow well with just pressing Space Bar or Enter to just progress with the story/dialogue so we need to click an arrow to progress and I found that it sometimes works with the keyboard arrows but sometimes it doesn't.

The story isn't all that new and innovative but it works. The girls, especially both Sophie and Yui are extremely sweet and I love when they're on scene. Helen is also great and only Liz feels a bit grating at times with how easily she antagonizes Helen. I'm not big into incest but both Liz and Kate feel alright, especially how Kate wants to ease the other girls into the harem. Speaking of which, it's kind of refreshing how they're made aware of the others into the relationship quite early even if it doesn't feel realistic but we can at least chalk that up to the goddess' powers.

Now something that I really hate about this game: every time Shinigami (like seriously, that's her name?) appears, I just feel mad. I'm not a fan of femdom but I usually go at games like this with the hope that we'll have enough of a choice to see these types of scenes or not and the slut goddess just treats MC like shit every time. She's really infuriating every time she's on scene, which is rather remarkable in a way, so if it was dev's intent on making her unlikeable at first, they did a good job at that. The scene where MC wakes up being mind controlled to masturbate in front of his sleeping sister was beyond terrible and I'm surprised he brushes it off so easily with her (Shinigami). I hope there will be chances in the future to fight against her control and hopefully reverse the roles entirely with her.

When I found this game I wasnt expecting it to be THIS good looking. I love its style. It has some "heavy" topics which are being carefully handled while maintaining a good chunk of naughtiness.
I seriously like ALL LIs and thats kinda rare for me.
The dialogues have a good mix between inner self monologues and "deeper" talks trying to portray the feelings of the people talking.
The animations and art in general looks amazing.
The final hit gave me Kate, the mother. She looks SO HAWT, she is basically SHINING in motherly love and lewdness, it made me make saves on every different new frame she was shown.. jesus, she is just this hawt damn, unfortunately she just got introduced so there arent many scenes, but she already got started to get conquered so there is this..
Speaking of "already getting conquered" i like that the plot is going on "fast". Like its not meet and f*k but the characters are getting fleshed out enough that you get to know enough about them but also get to the lewd parts really fast.. this makes me as a guy, who played way tooo many AVNs recently, really happy. This way we will probably get to see lots of great lewd scenes with the LIs.

So the reason why im rating this game so high is, because... it just has the perfect balance between having "heavy" topics and lewdness and keeps the general atmosphere still "light hearted"
Its really good. Im sad to see that the game has been released in 2019 but "only" has 6 chapters so far, apparently they decided to remake them... so yea...

Anyways, its a top tier game, you should try it, its nice.

This visual novel game is an absolute masterpiece in every aspect. From the captivating storytelling and well-developed characters to the stunning artwork and immersive soundtrack, it surpasses all expectations. Every decision feels meaningful, leading to multiple riveting endings. A true gem in the world of interactive storytelling. 5/5 stars without a doubt!

Game version: 0.6.1 REMAKE

I do not remember the first time I played this game until the end of the then-version, but the story is SO bad and cringeworthy, I don't even understand why I hadn't trashed the game years ago.

A hot milfy-teacher, on which you "accidentally" fall while grabbing her booba; the 08/15 hot (female!) demon who gifts you lewd powers, even if every girl and woman already fell for you on first sight... I just doesn't stop there.
Been there, done that...The aging of the game and gameplay shows now, badly (2019 -> 2023)
The render quality is "okay" at worst, but nowhere "outstanding" any more, like it used to when it started.
I got the feeling, that it should have been released years ago, not being remade in a time where it feels redundant.

Still haven't caught up all the way from the previous version,but let me tell you I couldnt help myself but to write a review.

These new scenes and character reworks look stunning. really hats off to the dev I'm really impressed.
Been a big fan of the game even before the rework, so I was happy to see old scenes I liked updated and improved, really knocked it out of the park.

All I gotta tell you is to keep up the great work and I cant wait to see future updates once I finally get caught up with the rework.

I like a lot about this game, the models are really good compared to the ugly attempts at realism so many other games go for, a style that ruins a large chunk of them for me. My only real problems would have to be the dialogue being somewhat poor, and there being some pretty low quality assets in use that can contrast heavily with the high quality assets used. For example, the gym just looks really low quality, and then you transition to the locker room and everything just looks like 4k in comparison. Besides those gripes, it's quite good.
