Ren'Py - Completed - My Cute Roommate [v1.6.1 Ex Beta] [Astaros3D]

TLDR: Unplayable without walkthrough. Even with walkthrough good chance the game will break and there will be no help fixing it.

Played this because I played Girl House which despite its flaws was serviceable. Thought this would be at least as good.

This one has some partial improvements but also additional problems. I am not sure which came first so I am referring to the order I played them in.

More clear on where to go or what the next steps should be. Still, there seems to be a secret order the game expects.

• Grind. Having now consulted the walkthrough its steps explicitly rely on the cheat menu. Well, ok. I guess you know your grind sucks.

MC. MC in the previous one looked like an alien. This one thankfully keeps most things in first person.


New infuriating problems

- Has numerous bugs. At home every 4th frame is an exception error. Apart from being annoying AF it seems to break the walkthrough sequence and as indicated elsewhere this game is impossible without the walkthrough.

- This game continually unloads mods like URM that you might use to address such bugs.

- This game blocks back button.

- Players have uploaded some fixes but you have to trust they are good actors, they don’t fix everything and the original Dev hasn’t even dev tried to pitch in.

- Related to above, this post is dead so there is no help. Something is blocking me triggering next step with roommate but I can’t possibly guess what. I have tried advancing every other aspect of the game and advancing time. Next event that the walkthrough predicts never happens. So not only does the game break, and not only is there no help fixing it, it also wasted a bunch of time to end up broken.

The game seems to be constructed to screw you without notice. You need an "Indiana Jones" level treasure map to tell you where to step. There are that many landmines in this game. There are lethal choices that do not allow you to go back and undo them as in other ren'py games...its the only I've EVER played that does that. Its unplayable without a walkthrough. I would give it a "1 Star", but at least the art is nice...

horrible loop. horrible story. horrible introduction. no effort on the character.
Please work on the loop first, before trying to build the story, because its confusing to understand the loop, what u need to do to get a health certificate isn't clear.

1st of all, some scenes in there are worthy of playing this game, but to get to them you will have to heavily rely of Walkthrough guides.

This game does a very bad job at telling you "what you are supposed to do".

To progress past mid-game and to the juiciest of scenes, you will have to stumble across an even in early game.

And there are no indications, that you have to be there at that time at all.
Moreover, if you miss it at the beginning of the game (in the time, stated by the guide), you won't be able to see this event Ever again.

And, as I said, 95% of the sex scenes rely on exactly this encounter.

Playing it without a guide is a living nightmare.
With a guide, there will be 5-7 decent sex scenes.

Lots of missed opportunities, I would say.

GOOD GAME

I like this DEV that, unlike many, finishes its games, I have played the previous one and it has also been quite good.
Free Roam Click&Point, yes sometimes it gets repetitive but it is still very FUNNY

That you have to achieve things and that everything goes little by little with corruption and such makes you get more into the game and have fun.


The part where you have to shower seems quite annoying to me...

Visually solid game more so for the year released. Sadly visuals were the only bright side of the game. Non-existent story implying the plot to be based on: I just moved to new city. Furthermore, I didn't enjoy the characters getting somehow universal progression of personality, with all seemingly converging to one hoe-like archetype. I found inability to drop LI rote irritating as it ruined my first walkthrough (dropping the cousins friend in the begging leads to inability to progress so end up using walkthrough to avoid similar incidents).

For ones going for the visual satisfaction and ctrl hold enjoyers, would recommend. Those somewhat interested in the game aspect, skip this one...

So apart from the few bugs, this game is quite promising.
The best thing is the animation quality and graphics crystal clear. Dev seems to excel in that.I completed this game years ago but revisiting this again made me write a review.
The story is quite good crisp we are just helping our Friend and till the end we do it.The game has lot of characters ,shit tons of sexy moments, overall this game is a classic in its own right

The grind... Same problem in the sequel too

The MC becomes even dumber in the sequel, atleast here he acts like a guy who isn't chromosome deficient.

This Dev makes it so hard to love his games. The models are unique for sure, but still hot and his stories are very clever. I wanted to give it some love as it's much better than it's current rating.
It's not path driven, so go crazy! However, this game barely attempts to guide you in any way, so a WT is absolutely necessary, which is why I can't give it 5 stars. (You'll literally fumble around trying to figure out of things work, which stalls the quest until you do.)
If you can get past the need of a WT, this is a very enjoyable game, so give it a try.

I discovered this game thanks to Girl House, but it's less extensive, less detailed, and apart from a few scenes, most of it isn't much fun.
For me, the worst part is the money-earning mini-games, which are long and redundant. I don't usually mind having this kind of element, but having to do a memory 20 times is a pain in the ass.

I recently got to know the game and it has a good designer for the female characters and good sex scenes, especially with the girl roommate.

However, the game lacks a lot when it comes to progression, with you constantly getting stuck in some part of the story if you don't have a step-by-step walkthrough.

Another negative point is the constant bugs, which often cause you to lose your save, as happened to me a few times.

Also negative is the fact that you can see that the game has been rushed, with some female characters being misused or having their content cut.

At some point in the story, characters who get involved with the MC will get involved with other guys, such as the dean, the daughter of the company director and the trainer at the gym.

I only recommend you start playing this game if you have the patience to deal with all its problems and have a keen interest in seeing its scenes.

I have a mixed feelings about this one.
As with most games the idea is good, but it's poorly implemented.

As other have stated, the grind and repetitiveness is way too much. I didn't get the feeling of being engaged in the game in this part. Same text over and over again with slow response between each line and button click is just not a liked feature.
Some of the things feel kind of useless and unnecessary too. For example, taking shower everyday.
Also, this "game over on wrong choice" thing is big no-no.

When it comes to navigation, it's true that without a walkthrough, the player doesn't usually know what to do. I realize that the intent may be to have exploration component to it, which is fine, but there should be some minimum amount of heuristics/hints that will serve as guidance in every moment.

The models are hot and there is variety in terms of looks and character.

I realize that making a game is difficult (I have a couple of failed projects myself) and you can't satisfy every player's preferences. (Half the people here want sandbox and the other half prefer VN's without gameplay) The thing is that you as a developer should be active with your playerbase and create a feedback loop in which you correct mistakes and improve over time, which obviously didn't happened here.

The only reason I don't give this game one star is because it has very good artwork, and the girls are very hot

The gameplay is bad, poorly written and hard if you don't have a walkthrough

... as a game:
* Poor story. You move to the city to your cousin home. You have a disease and you need to get laid to cure it...
* Poor dialogs.
* There's music, sounds but no voices.
* Too grindy. So recommended to use the ingame cheats.
* Poor performance. Luckily, no crashes.
... regarding its erotic side:
* Character design is good. Almost all girls are very hot. The game is too simple to know them better. Your are a simp, you gift them things, they do things for you.
* Scenes are very good.
* Animations are bad.
* There's music, some sounds but no voices.
* No Gallery mode, just images.

Nice artwork and story ok but gameplay very boring and slow, you get stuck without knowing if there is a bug or something.
I've spent more time looking for help than actually playing.
The the save/load process is also very slow.

Great models, the story is too short though. I also chuckled at the model for the chairmans daughter and her dialogue alluding to DMD. I need greater support on mobile and a cheqt for the whole gallery.

This game has a good models and good sex scenes but everything else other than this things chore to play . Only thing sandbox do for this game is making game grindy and hard to finish .If you dont have any good gameplay or meaning to add to sandbox then dont make sandbox it just making game worse for artificially making longer.

Got finally to play this “masterpiece” lol. I lost the traction of it because on a weekly basis the NTR tag gets either added or removed. So let's put the damn cat out of the sack: Yes, there is NTR, it's not avoidable, but it's not the full focus of it. Probably like around 30% of it if you also want to call lesbian ones too because this game has a good amount of it. Despite being a full blown sandbox you have zero choices. Everything happens like on rails but you have the privilege to grind through it and waste your time doing it.

Except for the good models there is no praise for me here. Story is dumb, characters are dumber, scenarios how they develop even more dumber. I wouldn't even suggest that with a walkthrough mod, only gallery unlock and you did everything right.

The game doesn't have rollback, that's a big problem.

The sandbox needs some work, the options text is very large and takes up a lot of space on the screen, like many of the icons like map, tasks or items I have.

The story also leaves a lot to be desired, for example, the MC moves to a new city to start college, which he still needs to enroll in, and he still needs to study before even joining, he didn't move to start college, he moved to try to get into college.

Many bugs that prevent progress, the heart button to see the points we have earned from the girls does not work, when I try to select a girl the screen returns to the game screen.
The menu also has bugs, sometimes I place the mouse over the save or load option, but it doesn't always work, and some menu actions are slow, save or load, very slow.

This is an awesome experience once you get past all of the playability bugs.

The good
All of the models and dialogs are superb . The setup is perfect especially incest patch (the true game). Then you meet the cousin and well I feel like I would need to describe everything that happens thus spoiing it so I'll just say if incest comics are a genre you enjoy this game has moments that will be very satisfying.

The bad
If you've read many of the posts in the thread you might come across a few people who're having trouble following the walkthrough of the game. That because if you do something in an order the game doesn't expect you'll easily 'soft-lock' it and normally you'll have to go back to a save were its no soft-locked in order to progress.

However I was able to use Universal Ren'Py Mod to work around the games issues. Without it I could easy have given up completely.

This is also one of those ren'py games where saving and loading takes like a half a minute to do each time so that's not pleasent.
