My New Family – A Rare Wholesome Gem in a Sea of Drama

I don’t often write reviews, but after replaying My New Family for the third time, I figured it was finally time to give it the love it deserves.

This game gets a 5/5 from me — not because it’s perfect, but because it offers something I rarely see in adult VNs: a genuinely wholesome, feel-good experience. Most games lean heavily into drama, betrayal, or edgy twists, and honestly, that’s just not what I’m looking for most of the time. My New Family skips the trauma-bait and gives you a warm, sweet, sometimes goofy story that just feels good to play.

The plot starts a bit heavy — the MC reconnects with his family after a rough childhood with an alcoholic father and a cheating ex — but that tone doesn’t last. Very quickly, it transforms into a slice-of-life harem sim with strong focus on emotional connections and positivity. And I love that shift. It’s comfy, and it grows on you the more you play.

Yeah, the graphics early on are flat (Honey Select 1, not the fancy version), and the lighting was a bit rough. But the dev clearly improved a lot over time — by the latest update, the renders look great for what the engine allows. Same with the writing: a little rough in the beginning, but it settles into a charming, unique voice, with some Engrish that made it more relatable than annoying for me.

The MC isn’t super deep, but he becomes this loveable, wholesome goofball. The girls are where the game really shines:

Becca – sweet, caring mom

Mary – fun and flirty aunt

Sandra – mature and supportive younger sister

Lucy – the classic tsundere

Alice – shy and adorable

Maddie – tough but warm cousinAnd of course, side girls like Sun, who is cute as hell and totally needs more screen time.

It’s not a masterpiece in terms of complex storytelling, but it knows what it wants to be, and it sticks the landing. If you're tired of overdramatic plots and just want to enjoy a cozy, spicy, heartwarming harem story — My New Family hits that sweet spot.

Three playthroughs later, and I still smile every time. That’s worth 5 stars in my book.

I like the genre, a bit of a fantasy incest story works for me if done well due to the forbidden nature, but the implementation of this one was not the best.
Halfway through the story I just fast forward a lot.
MC is really stupid at times, I mean there's nothing wrong to be introverted a bit or reserved, but he is far far from realistic dumb, at times. Way too polite, it just feels completely unrealistic a lot of the time.
The writing feels very... I don't know, chinese / japanese or something with these very polite dialogues and exaggerated reactions like everyone blushes, every girl acts like 12 year old even though they are 20+. It's honestly immersion breakingly bad. Sometimes it also feels like it's not native level english - I am also not a native speaker but it's somehow very simplistic and it's written in a way that is weird. To devs credit the writing gets a lot better later on.
The girls are otherwise ok, I like the characters despite the fact they are textbook cliches. They should be a bit more complex, a bit more mature, but it's common and not necessarily too problematic to have cliches to some level in these stories.
The story is also completely linear, so there's basically no decisions to be made, you either get involved with someone or not. Makes it too boring. I understand that it makes things way easier to write, some of the AVNs get into way too much complexity with the choices, but there has to be some middle ground to give some illusion of choices while keeping the branches manageable, isn't it?
Overall it's pretty good, there's a lot going for it. The background of the characters is also a bit simplistic and cliche, doesn't feel realistic, but I like it, it should just be a tad more realistic and sophisticated.
Finally the old HS graphics are bland and boring to be honest. If you seen it 5+ times the characters kinda feel variations on the same.

I consider it a bonus that not everyone has huge breasts, there's even maybe too many 'small' girls, but I happen to like slender small girls so khm, that works for me! Faces and bodies are totally OK, it's the HS that limits it, I feel.
Everything considered a 3/5 seems fair, for me that means something playable, that has more positives than negatives; only it has some pretty big negatives as well.
It's awesome that the story is complete at least! Kudos to the developer! I have to figure how to drop a 1 time tenner or something to the dev as a thanks, we should always do our best to motivate devs that actually complete things. I'm tired of so many incomplete stories, or stuff that is planned well into next decade or whatever.

I thought I was being unfair as I skipped past a lot of the dialog later in the game just trying to get to the H scenes for some of the LIs which seemed to be dangled and kept out of reach for what IMHO seemed to be an excessive amount of time (particularly Lucy). I truly felt stabs of guilt as I read along thinking to myself, "okay if this were me, I would have given up on this twit (Lucy) and pursued other girls that actually showed interest in me."

After reading some of the other reviews, I was pleasantly surprised that I wasn't the only one that found myself being bored for over half of the content. A lot of filler scenes clogged up an already slow-paced story (sleep scenes, wake up, breakfast! and shower scenes etc.) Some of these scenes were fine, at first, but after having to click through them EVERYDAY it seemed to me that a lot of them could have just been skipped (which I started doing).

The storyline became very linear and after I decided to not show interest in one of the LIs early in the game it seemed to come back and bite me in the ass! Why even allow it to be a decision if it's the wrong one and it will stop a lot of content later on? Wrong decisions are fine and I expect there to be some consequences of my actions. Fine, but don't throw it in my face later, force me to basically replay that decision so that the game can continue. If that's the case, why even allow that decision to be made?

Going back to my opening statement, I found myself skipping through tons of info because the storyline became boring and I could really care less about a bunch of people, particularly the MC, who had no jobs yet lived in a beautiful neighborhood, in a small mansion, with no regard or concern for money, whining about how bad their lives were. I was like, really? The Dad is a bad guy and ruined everyone's lives as they date, fuck, sleep and eat with abandon?

I didn't even finish the game. Even skipping through thousands of banal lines of dialog, I found myself only caring about the H scenes (painful to admit) and even they weren't very good. So I just quit. I know a ton of work went into creating this game but Devs should keep in mind that more isn't always better and you should never risk sacrificing quality for quantity.

I enjoy visual novels a lot, from giant 70+ hour masterpieces like Soukou Akki Muramasa to modest 2-10 hour short stories like Planetarian. I've read a ton of good ones, i've read quite a decent amount of bad and horrible ones. In recent years i discovered all the Renpy stuff so i've been binging a lot of those, and while they are of much lower quality in general some were still tremendously enjoyable. Never in my life i have read something as unengaging, aimless, pointless and devoid of any attempt to be a story. It took me over a month to read through this soulless drivel because i could not stomach reading through this, every word it felt like im swimming through sludge and it only got worse.


Premise itself is perfectly fine, at the start it felt like a story at least have a direction, reconciling with a mother that basically abandoned you with a drunkard asshole of a father and a new family you don't know how to feel about it great in theory. And that it the only positive i can say about this game, because very quickly it all crumbles like a house of cards.

I checked reviews before reading this, and many pointed at one of the worst MC's ever, and it was hard to believe since i have seen some terrible ones, but i could not even imagine the degree to which this... creature will grind my braincells to dust. Sitting at the couch and rewatching same episodes of Simpsons and Futurama is his only pasttime. Ever. There is nothing else he will ever do on his own will, he does not have a life, he does not have any degree of intelligence, he does not have a personality, i despised being this character, every time he spoke i wish he didn't. This is without a doubt one of the worst MC's i will ever have a dishonor of experiencing.

At first you can think that amount of girls and their variety can save this. After all, there is a truly impressive amount of different girls, a bunch of family members, female boss, her secretary, the shop weebs, a school bully e.t.c., all okay stereotypes when done well. But at some point every single one of them just becomes the same character, goes through exact same development and experience with MC and ends up in a same position with minimal changes. Good third of half of them just dissapear from the story in later half of stop mattering in any way. Although this would imply they mattered at all, but they are generally there just for pointless body count. Yvonne pretty much dissapears, Dianna just dissapears, the weebs are just gone by the end, pretty much most secondary characters just get nuked and have no resolution or interactions with each other. Not like it would help because, well...

The general writing is nothing short of MISERABLE. The style, wording, pacing, expressions, repetition of events, all of it is among the lowest levels i have ever seen, including MTL. Some MTL jibberish is at least funny to read and deduce what was actually said, this was just a nightmare to read. Game very lazily tries to write some drama or conflcit couple of times like with the whole father thing later on, but it quickly get resolved within couple sentences and never mentioned again. There is no conflict in this game. There are no events in this game. There is no life in this game. I cannot stress enough how much concentrated NOTHING is happening in it.

Right, you would think with this amount of women at least a variety of scenes will be pretty decent, because come on, even bad Renpy VN's did at least some of it right. Well you would be absolutely, unapologetically, critically wrong, because it got exactly, let me think... four? Five? Animations that are reused all the time for every girl and every evemt. There is missionary, doggy, the standing behind, cowgirl and... i think thats it? It's not like it's used properly either, it's just copypasted animation into every single model with a really bad camera that doesn't show anything, and every single girl is just the exact same in reaction, words and general attitude towards it. Except Celeste, to my surprise, who by the very end of this trip to gehenna woke me up for a second with something new.

I understand that i mostly mentioned just general points without anything particularly concrete, but you have to understand that this game is the longest nothing burger you will likely ever see in your life. And even that nothing tasted like trash.

This was without a doubt one of the most unpleasant experiences i've ever had reading a visual novel, at worst when i read a terrible VN i still treat it with an "eh, at least i know a little better now" mentatily, but after this i want my time wasted on this travesty back. I gained nothing from it, i only lost. So personally i encourage you to stay as far away as possible from this abhorrent torture device, unless morbid curiosity drives you. Which i get it, you do you man, but i warned you.

A very badly written and designed game.

Don't get me wrong, it has a lot of good things going for it, wholesome moments (I even cried once with one of the cat sister scenes), funny moments (although a good amount of it is cringe), and a TON of content. All of the good however makes the infuriating bad that more glaring.

1. The author doesn't do a good job of following up the traumatic things he writes with believable reactions from the protagonist. The MC goes from being traumatized by a mother that abandoned him when he was 4 to an alcoholic father and intending to kill himself to instantly forgiving her.

A character that is supposed to care for his family and his mother has her first reaction to him arriving, and knowing how delicate the situation is, be sexually harrassing him/assaulting him.

A late character is honestly the worst, she's supposed to be this character that fought for the protagonist when no one else did, and yet her first encounter with him is to be outright hostile to measure if he would hit her? Then she follows this up with forcing him to go back to speaking with his traumatic father for "the greater good". That's not the end of her crimes either. Granted, the author does allow you to eventually not give her a second chance - but you have to endure chapters of him thinking about it, and through all of this, the mc never has a believable reaction to anything bad, he just accepts everything, there are no boundaries anywhere.

Now, bad writing doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing in a porn game, it's that this game tries to tackle serious matters and fails horribly at it by the follow up. If it wasn't trying to be serious it wouldn't be bad, but alas.

2. Now to the worst point. Horrible game design. The game is supposed to give you "choice", but this is a trap and the only way for you to play this is by constantly give up choice. From the start, unless you react a very specific way to the beginning of the game, you'll be locked out of the first and MANDATORY love interest. The author will let you keep playing regardless in a doomed world for a couple of chapters just often giving you a berating notice of "you fucked up somewhere, why don't you restart?". Well, why offer choice in the first place then?

If you make this first choice correctly, then you're more or less allowed to choose which of the secondary girls you'll bring into your harem, but that's only for by the end of the game the dev come in and tell you that you either choose to disregard everything you've chosen and jump into his "true route", or the game will stop making sense. Both in his supposed sequel, and also in the epilogue of the current game.

If that wasn't enough, even if the ending of this circus act of a design is the final nail, throughout the game, depending how much you deviate from what the author wants, the game will stop making sense because sometimes specific events will treat the timeline as if you've chosen his "true" route regardless of what you haven't seen.

Why not be honest and make this game a single route instead of giving you a "choice" that you must not choose every single time then?

In conclusion, I've had a number of friends telling me that I was wasting my time playing this, and I refused their advice because the dev was kind enough to me when I asked a question. I regret my choice. For all I wished I had enjoyed this experience, I very much haven't. And now it's my turn to tell you you should skip this, it's not worth it. I wish good luck on the dev on his future projects, but if this is any indication then I'd advise to keep away from them too.

I had played this game till episode 17 last time and now that it's completed I decided to play from the start and enjoyed my time with the story. I am ready through and through so read almost the entire story and enjoyed the soft moments. Loved the romantic moments especially between Sandy and MC.

Plot:
A young man reconnects with his mother and sisters after being forced to live with his alcoholic father since childhood.

Graphics:
Honey Select but not the good kind that is used in modern games that use that engine or its successor.
Renders feel flat, and the lighting is also very badly executed.

SFX and Music:
No SFX at all and the music is standard royalty free stuff grabbed from YT.

Story:
The MC is on his way to his mother’s house while reflecting on his youth living with his alcoholic father and later with his cheating GF. How everything happened to him and how it all went to shit. He is actually contemplating suicide at that moment.

From this you might think that the story is interesting. A son reconnecting with his lost mother? An alcoholic father that isn’t dead that lurks in the shadows?

WRONG!

The story is the most boring interpretation of 'slice of life' ever written. There isn’t much else to say. The MC basically meets family member after family member and falls in love with them.
I wouldn’t even have a problem with that BUT the MC is as boring as the story or the lack thereof.

Writing:
The writing is terrible. In sense of grammar and writing style. It’s full of what some here call Engrish. Most jokes aren’t funny or are just cringe.

The MC:
He is probably the biggest problem this game has. He is the most boring MC I’ve ever seen.
He has no sense of personality and he is so stupid that it borders on retardation.
The game intro mentions that he has a degree of some sort. I can’t imagine someone as stupid as this MC having any academic success at all.
Maybe he is talking about his career as pen assembler at the place for the special people. /jk
Who knows... it's never mentioned every again.
He is a yes-man simp that says sorry constantly for things that aren’t his fault. He is passive and has no initiative. Most of his vocabulary consists of: "Uhm", "Sure", "What?" and "...". or a combination of them like "Uhm... What?"
I especially like "…". Where even the dev had no idea how to fill the empty head of this MC.
This limits dialogue in the game drastically because it’s mostly the LIs talking to the MC, but it never really feels like two people talking to each other. His inner monologue isn’t any better either.

The LIs:
They are mostly bland as well but still way more fleshed out than the MC.
You have for the main cast:

• Becca - the abused mother
• Mary - the slutty aunt
• Sandra - the loving and caring little sister
• Lucy - the tsundere little sister
• Alice - the shy and innocent little sister
• Maddie - the tough but caring cousin

There are some side girls as well, but many of them feel like pump n’ dump, unfortunately.
Some of them are quite cute. Like the adorable Sun. Which doesn’t get enough screen time.

The only one that I really liked is Sandra. She is the harem enabler and IMHO the best girl in the game by far.

The Sex:
Stock Honey Select animations. Boring but I could live with that. What ruins it though are the terrible angles the dev is using. In 99% of the scenes, you can’t see anything. It’s so bad that this game borders on being softcore. Given that this is mostly an incest game it’s also lacking in the ‘taboo’ factor. There is hardly any ‘spicy’ incest dialogue during the sex scenes.

Conclusion:
I get what the dev was trying to do. He tried to create a wholesome incest family harem game.

Where this game fails is the terrible execution.
The terrible MC that is not only super boring with zero personality but also cringe inducingly stupid.
A story that is as engaging as watching paint dry. The game is also very long. Which makes it even more boring. It’s thousands and thousands of lines of text and nothing really happens.
The sex scenes are also really bad. Not because of the stock animation but because the dev decided to make them bad.

The only thing I really like about this game is MCs little sister Sandra, because she has the type of personality I like. The rest is really boring, and I would advise to play something else.

I give this game two stars, because the dev tried and because I like one LI.

I'm only on 3 chapter, but for now this game is good. Of course there are some cons, like this boring music, or MC is a little.. I don't know.. too polite? Too gentle, too romantic, too nice and sometimes he talks too much (it would be better if sometimes he was a bit more decisive and didn't precede many things with such long-winded talk..), but he is ok. Far better than many others from some another games.

Ach.. Too bad that this is another game, when MC finish so fast.. Why there are almost no MC, who can makes girl cum at least few times (prefer more), before he finish? Why almost none MC last longer? I feel underrepresented

But besides that, I like this game for now. Sandra is cute! Perfect wife material!! <3 I don't like cats or cat behavior (except tigers and black panthers, perfect for cuddling and stroking <3), but Lucy is funny and awakens the need to protect her! Most of the girls are cute, or simply ok.

Situation with father reminds me of my 'family relationship' so it was easy for me to get into it.. It's great that for now is very little masturbation, toys, or lesbian action. I'm not a fan..

Spoilers?*: First I want to say that to enjoy this you need to assume the "landlord" of the protagonist is very low iq or got so fucked up mentally by the abuse of her ex that she could never think things clearly even after several years. Otherwise, you cant really justify what she did (or what she didnt do, despite having all kinds of resources available to her).
That was what kept me playing this the first time because honestly, avoiding her makes the game a lot less enjoyable since it is clearly meant as a harem game.
When we go past that, which is just part of the backstory, the rest of the game is actually very good. The quality of most of the LIs is very good, especially the main ones, who have distinctive personalities, are very likable, and have good looks (at least by Honey Select standards).
For a "harem" game I think it delivers almost all you would want from one, plot was alright, Mc is ok, nothing special I wish he would show more assertiveness or charisma sometimes to get the women to fall for him, and not just "act overly nice", in fact, I think he acts way too nice even when he should act a bit more firm instead without being overly antagonizing, but I digress since that's very subjective, some people like that kind of MC and there's certainly much worst out there.
Overall a 4.5 game with a lot of content and some very outstanding LIs like Sandra, that really win you over and it’s not just about looks and sex like in most other games.

Quality wise certainly one of the best. Very enjoyable , lots of different characters, lots of content etc
One glaring flaw is that romancing Sandra is mandatory and from then on every other girl is just another part of the harem.

I really wanted to play this game, but after 3-4 hours I find it really hard to continue.
And that's mostly for one reason: the MC.
I mean, the guy has absolutely zero character, no personality, his whole vocabulary is just "Uhm", "Sure", "What?" and "...". Or a combination of them like "Uhm... What?"
It bugs me that the guy can't articulate properly and that every little thing the girls say sets him off.
He never laughs at jokes or comes up with a witty retort or anything like that. His answer is always just "Uhm".
And then, of course, the girls always say "Just kidding", because otherwise the MC's whole world would probably collapse.

So why do all the girls want him? Simply put: all other existing men are assholes and only want one thing and he is the only existing man who is nice to them. (Haha ... sure, the nice guy gets all the pussy)
The girls themselves are cute and varied enough to be fun. Nevertheless, none of them particularly stand out.

The dialogue is somewhat okayish, for the most part it's pretty superficial and lacks any deeper meaning.

Renders are relatively average, nothing special, sex scenes are short and not very varied.

Starts good and makes you think there's is gonna be an interesting story (MC thinking about taking his own life), sadly this is not the case and quickly it becomes painfully predictable with no real choices, in fact, every time you have to take a choice the options could be translated into Option 1 :"you want to see this content" and Option 2: "you don't want to see this content" (most of the time this "content" meaning wheter you want to have some kind of relationship with a girl or not, and obviously you want to pick the first one since this is a Harem and even if you don't I don't think it changes the story at all). I only remember one time when you actually make a real choice, that time when you have to choose the way you'll be treating Tanya and that's it. This is one of those AVN where everything that happens to the MC is fking perfect for no reason, At some point I thought that maybe the MC did try to kill himself and this was everything a fking dream of him before dyingxD .

About the characters, MC is kind of an idiot, girls are average (a few of them have interesting back stories like Lucy but most of them are bad written)
About its music, I think there are only 3 or 4 tracks, I liked one of them.
About animations, Sex scenes are not that bad, even though there are a lot of them they are too short and they're all very similar.

I'm not saying this game is complete trash, it has its moments specially at the beginning. Sadly as I said before it was painfully predictable and repetitive which made it boring for me (IMO this is the worst sin of any game) also ...Did I mention this VN is fking long? (40hours+ I guess. Sadly filled with tons and tons of meaningless and unnecessary dialogs) So It became more like a chore. I stopped playing it at chapter 11.

Overall I'd give it a 5/10 only for those first 10 hours. It's average at best.

I really wanted to like this one. Tags are great, and the premise is decent enough. But the execution is severely lacking. This definitely suffers from pacing and editing, with far too much unnecessary bloat. On top of that, the ambiguous ages of some of the characters was disconcerting, and definitely contributed towards dropping this after several hours.

I think this game is the definition of an Average game, but gets really stale when you notice it in the end. This game is like every isekai anime out there, that follows a set of events, you know what will happen, and know that it won't be any good, but it's a comfort that you're used to. There are tons of similar games on this site that are all the same inside with different coats of paint on the outside, the only exception for this is it keeps its promise and gives some pregnancy content others sometimes avoid.

2 stars for keeping its promise of an expected Harem Game, but nothing unique or interesting when you notice its shallowness.

• Choices aren't really choices. It's either "More content" or "Less content" (This wasn't a huge deal to me).
• Humor wasn't my thing
• TON of grammar mistakes, but, to be fair, it's kind of on par with most games on this site.

Despite all of that, I was eager to continue after my first one or two days with it, so I guess it has that going for it. Additionally, to be completely transparent, I only played up to around chapter 7, I think.

3/5 for story, this is my reason why give 3 for most all aspect, since this is also what make it a heavy story line, so here simple one too cliche, cheesy and most of the story was easy to guess, there's nothing give me a head up or even make the story interesing yeah i know its harem but meh its too normal for me, only fiona n tanja part was im interested. plot was just fine nothing its really hard to get, well maybe back to the main course its a very linear game.

A solid 3.5 star game. It's pretty fun and the animations are good, but it moves at breakneck pace. I mean, your first day there, you've already got the first girl. The way you convince them is also barebones. You're literally just nice. You just smile, say some nice things, and boom, you're in. Is every guy in the universe just a scumbag? Is that why it's so surprising? I don't know. The actual dialogue is also a little on the not so great side. It's very basic without a lot of underlying meaning or context. The most you get is someone saying something a little lewd, then your character will go "What?" Then they respond with "Haha, nothing." I know the genre of game and that in the end, most people are here for the animations, but I just wish the story was a little more believable. Not just you showing up, throwing a nice word their direction, then you get with them. I am a good ways in, so I think I have a handle on the story. I'll continue and update the review should I learn anything that changes this. I like the game overall, it is enjoyable, but the things I mentioned are what knock it down two stars. But, it's easy enough to ignore. For the most part at least.

I really love this Game.

The characters, the dialogue, just everything.

It's just nice having all the different kind of personalities. I don't get it how so many people suck at doing exactly this, creating interessting characters. And not only that. Even the designs of all of them are really nice. It's really refreshing not seeing the exact same model like in other games.

I would really recommend everyone to just play the game.

I'm pretty sure after a while of playing you will love the game. This and the other game of Killer7, My New Memories, are just really good and well written stories, with amazing characters.

And one last thing, and I say it without meaning it in any way negative, I love seeing the lewd scenes without them beeing just there for a quick fap. All the emotions, all the love, I literally can feel it everytime the MC is making love to one of his girlfriends. It's not just sex and I find it incredible to actually get the feelings easily conveyed. Not many games can do this. At least when it comes to AVN games.

Just love it and can't wait for the second part to come out someday.

edit: just something I wanted to add. How does this game manages it to make me fucking cry? Not because of sadness, but pure happyiness. It's sooo incredible. This game man

From the first release to the last I hung on because world and story telling were great and the girls are so lovable. I adore this game with every ounce of my being. I have played games that are 60 USD that are not even half of what this game is. I hope anyone in the future that gets to enjoy the whole thing in continuously appreciate the effort and love that went into this project. Thanks Killer7 for a fantastic addition to my life experiences.
