My Secret Fever [Final]
What’s it like to live in a city where everyone is out for you? You focus on family. This game took that quite literally as you start out bonding with your sisters, only to then grow into the crazy city you all live in. A city that, if you overlook the many faults it has, can become something a crazy person could call home. Even though he probably never should.
STORY
When I started MSF, I would not have guessed I would experience this much story from a game that feels rather flat in it’s first hour. Your family is dysfunctional because (step)dad is always gone and mom is just passing time around the house while your sisters go about their business. I actually didn’t realize Diane was your mother until later in the game, where things get… frisky. This is a family affair simulator at it’s core and it starts off with your sister parading around you.
The game softly mentions those relationships, but for the most part here’s a big city full of other people to meet. You’ll meet strippers, handymen, shady people - and a couple dozen big women who are eventually discovering what kind of snack the MC is. Your best friend cockblocks you at first, but will pull through when things get serious. Without spoiling too much, you end up witnessing a scandal that will push you further into the world, meeting new characters.
That’s also a problem in MSF - the game constantly introduces new people (mainly women) who fall for the MC, (try to) get intimate and then aren’t seen again. There are regulars who you can flatter with your presence if you wish, but the game is spread so wide by the end you almost need a notebook to keep up with all the names. This enables the main characters to shine, but there are few characters - most notably Sam and Gianna - who I would have loved to see developed more. But by the end, those explorations take a backseat as the story goes into overdrive. Almost feels like a different game altogether.
While there are grammatical errors and the story writing could definitely be upgraded, there is just so much here that it’s commendable. From the way your sister Barbara interacts with a mystery guest from a previous Chaxias game or local bartender Vanessa employing you to make sure you get money - it all fits into a city of stories. It’s too bad most of these stories are experiences to then never hear from again. Future Chaxias games would ideally be more contained and richer in story development. By the end of the story though, you’ll know what the secret fever is.
PRESENTATION
While MSF is a dated game in 2024, it still looks amazing. Sure, the women are plus size and up and some really go for the bimbo look, but the developer makes it work in a believable setting. The city is expansive with so many locations I didn’t know where to look at times. It’s truly a world within a world and that only works because so much time was spent on building the world. Whether it’s the yellow scooter or the way you get to meet characters from different Chaxias games at random, it just adds to the idea of a big city.
Intimate scenes are aplenty, but they’re often made up of a couple two-frame animations. It’s not that strong and I would have preferred single frames with contextual dialog to make the moments more memorable. The dev did make an effort to create a whole cast of different big women, all different in shape and style. A quickie with your bestie won’t look the same as a hotwife offer from a rich entrepreneur. Even though all too often, the women choose similar positions. With this much activity, I would have loved to see different styles of intimacy pop up.
GAMEPLAY
This is a sandbox game in the truest form of the world - sometimes it won’t tell you anything and have you looking for 20 minutes. Play this with a walkthrough to avoid messing up your playthrough and worse, your time. You start out fairly simple with four spots, but by the end of the game you’ll have upward of 20 spots to go to within two time slots. The puzzle is to figure out what to do with who when and whereas to make the next story bit happen. Obviously there should have been hints, but I don’t think the scene was thar far in 2018.
It can definitely get tedious and grindy, especially with so many people - so take your time and really take the things in. The game’s at it’s best when it has you going from place to place, picking up stuff, encountering funny dialog and end up with a reward that young men can usually only dream of. I’ll leave the rest of that up to your imagination.
OVERALL
My Secret Fever ended up doing far more to me than I had expected. At certain times it lost my interest, but mostly it tried piling adventures with women on top of a story that was crazy to begin with. Your destiny is to F around and find out. So go find out what this city has to offer you. Just don’t expect to be done with it fast. From what I can tell, something like a sequel (or spiritual successor) will be in the works. And seeing how this story ends, that could totally work.
7/10, so 4/5 stars rounded out.
