Ren'Py - My State Sponsored Catgirl [v0.61] [VGBStudio]

This is a nice little game with nice art and a nice LI. Its pretty barebones, but it looks like the dev is interested in making the experience a little richer with toys, food, and different outfits. However these systems don't really work well together, the "scenes" aren't animated, the "animations" their own separate thing and don't tie into the rest of the game, and the outfit switching and toys and food just show you a few stills but again, don't really integrate into the game. This really feels like a tech demo than an actual game. There's a grindy "money" minigame that isn't too grindy, it checks a box. Once you have money and medicine you just spam the sleep button to progress the story. There's no other real interactions that are interesting.

There are a lot of other games that would give you this amount of content and quality but spread it out over 3 hours of mandatory minigames or spread it across an awful RPGM maze, so the this game being short and sweet is really a plus. There's not much here but its not a waste of time either.

My main criticism is getting the different mechanics to tie together cohesively. Second is the main hob screen is just the one room with the girl standing there, there's not a lot of life or simulated aspects. She's just kind of there and you just want to skip through the scenes to see the interesting content.

Played only the f95 version but it's enough to know.
I think for what this game is trying to be it's excellent.

It's all about having a good time and letting it go which I personally love.

+ Dialogue is cute and that's it, imo shouldn't try to be more
+ The attention paid to the AI renders is really good and the animations are really good, I hope this stays 100% the case moving forward because it's the main appeal
+ It's really quick to get into action which I love
+ Supporting cast is cute and I hope there's some situations in the future with them
+ Gameplay is enough to keep you clicking through the days and you get unexpected stuff almost every day
+ Dev is responsive lmao

- Only 1 girl and no body type variation for her, unfortunately not my type
- Little content so far but that's fine ig
- The music... idk about it tbh...these type of games often have a tracklist to choose from and switch during the game, this could benefit from this
- Could use polish in UI (no feedback on buttons etc, makes the effort on renders seem kinda cheap)

I was hesitant to download due to AI art, but I figured what the heck. Turns out the writing isn't that great and there's next to nothing to do. I couldn't even figure out how to change the outfit or open the inventory and kind of noped out on day 4? Maybe there will be content one day but as of right now there isn't a lot going on here. Also more of a personal thing but if you're able to get blowjobs on the first day nothing feels earned. But maybe I just need to feel like my goon is earned.

Jokes aside, my State Sponsored Catgirl is a parody about that one Elon Musk meme where he wanted to engineer Girls and Cats together, but its also a general idea that Nekomimi are sexy as hell.

You play as a jobless loser getting sponsored a catgirl engineered in a lab that unconditionally loves you because you can't get a gf otherwise. Sophie, the catgirl heroine and generic name the game gives her, is basically your housepet but also sexy as hell.

The writing is both bad in its overall simplicity, but also perfect. Its a weird description. The game suffers from dialogues being too simple. But on the other hand, it also encapsulates Sophies character perfectly. Her "Did I do well?" and questioning her own motives in a animal-like manner is what makes me keep playing the game. She really feels less of a human, more like a human/animal pet. Which is something many writers ignore when writing a catgirl like that.

On the other hand, the other side characters are also written rather simple. I do love though that its used in a way to emphasize that the other woman are all assholes apart from Sophie herself. This type of worldbuilding is perfect for a game like this, because its also explains the reason why a engineered catgirl like Sophie most likely exists in this world. Basically, all the woman are over demanding assholes so jobless losers like the MC won't ever get a girlfriend. Yet the catgirl IS the best girlfriend someone could ask for and makes the loser MC show his best sides as well. I can't wait to see more on how his character develops and how you will be able to interact with Sophie. The interplay between him and Sophie and also wanting to see how the other characters develop over time is what makes me want to play more.

So in regards of this game being a parody of your simulation type of game, this one of the more memoriable games this year.

I like the banter between the delivery girl and the MC too. The pharmacy girl needs more development.

AI art is a little inconsistent, but its fapable so far. I just hope the developer is able to make the game seem more consistent with the character proportions.

Very simple game so far, but what I see here is solid as fuck. I love how you can already tell whats coming in the next updates, considering theres a lot of options that seem to build on top of each other. I really want to see where this project is going here.

The writing may be weak sometimes, in some ways even childish and infantile, but the game plays heavily into the whimsical nature of its own setting.

I love the designs, they do remind me in parts of your usual nekomimi girl, on the other she also reminds me of your Big Tiddy Goth gf. Actually, all the character designs are somewhat inspired by the great Kotoyama, who is the author of Dagashi Kashi and Call of the Night.

As a joke game, this game excels. The writing is silly and stupid, but also fun and makes me want to know more about the world. The characters are sexy as hell. AI art is meh, especially some of the background works suck ass. And if the dev can work out some of the weird issues with Sophies face whenever she emotes, then the art would look much better. Its a AI problem more than anything. It would also be nice to be able to have her different costumes animated as well. The music, for this type of game, feels perfect too. Its extremely simple, but its so fitting. The developer knows what they're doing here.

The worst part about this game is the lack of actual content. Theres not much to do, nor are there any big sex scenes you can choose from. Right now its mostly just setting up the plot. More of everything, especially talking to your cat gf about all sorts of topics are really needed.

Overall, this one is definatly a sleeper hit game and if you like whimsicle parodies of simulation type porn games, this one is gonna be a banger. Just wait for a few more updates to hit if you think the lack of content sucks right now and you will love it.
