Mythic Manor is a legacy game continuing along on borrowed time. While it offered a good experience at the time of its conception in 2017, both the hardware (graphic renders) and software (game mechanics) have fallen behind times.
Nevertheless, it's still an average playable dating simulator if you lower your technical expectations and have time to spare.
Story
Mythic takes place in an alternate contemporary reality where the descendants of mythical creatures live among ordinary humans and employ magic to hide their identities from other humans. It's a common enough setting but the fantasy elements don't really play much of a role in most of the game.
As there's no real central plot revolving around Mythic, most of the action centres around individual slice of life moments that are mostly self-contained within a particular LI. The end result is a generic dating simulation game where you earn points with a LI and advance the relationship with her.
Game Mechanic
A sandbox with a big map consisting of ~20 locations to visit across morning, afternoon and night. Most of the time players try their luck across different venues at different times hoping to trigger an event.
For those who just want to proceed ASAP, a character menu provides hints on where and when to go to trigger an LI's event. It gets tedious after a while as you can only trigger a LI's event once a day, so either the flow gets very fragmented as you trigger different LIs within a day or repeatedly press the skip button to skip time till the daily refresh.
Background / Character Renders
Standard HS1 background and character renders that might have been great in 2017, but simply don't cut the mustard now when many games are using HS2 + Mods + Next-Gen 3 shader which makes them de facto HS3 renders.
That's 2 generations behind and definitely makes Mythic very dated in terms of visual aesthetics.
Character Development
Surprising very little for a dating simulator, MC is a generic adult game caricature with the usual hentai perversity while the LIs are typical tropes you see in most adult games.
There are three kinds of LIs - main, side and other. However, there's little difference between them other than the number of events. Mains have the highest quantity of events, side lesser and other least. Quality of events is roughly the same for all LIs, typical usual hentai stuff like lewd jokes, panty shots, peeping, tripping over each other, wardrobe accidents, walk in on masturbation etc.
The main selling point would be the number of LIs available - 6 mains, 7 sides and 10+ others at last count. The drawback would be relatively little content for each LI and lack of depth in relationship building.
Sex Scenes
Mostly generic stock animations seen in HS1 and their age shows. Old HS problems like penetrating skin during penile / finger insertion, lack of refine during closeups and poor motional physics are on full display.
The only saving grace is once again the large number of scenes available across many LIs.
BGM and Sound Effects
Generic BGMs that serve their function and no / minimal sound effects.
Conclusion
Mythic is a game that should have been concluded years ago. While it would have been an appealing product at launch, the graphics and gaming mechanics are clearly way behind times and likely to appeal only to old time players.
While it's lack of any central story allows the developer to easily expand indefinitely by adding locations and new characters, the generational gulf is only going to widen further and further in the future. I hope the developer can bring some form of closure soon and move on with something brand new.
There's only so much nostalgia one can milk before it eventually dries up.
