Hi guys!
I am new to game-making. I want to make a visual novel in the renpy engine but cannot figure out how. I can do programming but I do not know how to make 3D art. Please provide some guidance to help me make a new game. I have a shit ton of ideas but I can't draw worth fuck. I want my game to be as beautiful as the art featured in the game Summer's Gone and I prefer my first game to be a solo project and then I will think about hiring a 3D artist or something. I fucking love adult VN like Being a Dik, Summer's Gone, AWAM(Fuck My Life), and Deliverance.

search for "Daz Studio". But it can take a lot of time/money/hardware/nerves - to achieve the quality of mentioned games.

Time is not an issue. I am a programmer so I got nerves of steel. I will need to look at the money/hardware factor though. Please tell me what kind of hardware do these games require and will I need to invest a lot of money to get assets and stuff?

You can visit their official site - . There You can find all download links/system/tech requirements/ also there is shop with assets. In Internet/Youtube/here You can find tutorials, tips and tricks. Also there are a lot of tutorials on their official site. Solving task by task - You will meet new problems. Searching for solutions will upgrade You a lot. Also i saw some forum topics here - at discussion of tools and assets threads - where people share assets for games, tutorials and useful advices. How expensive will it be for You - depends of Your actions.

If you plan on going the daz route like I am, keep in mind how much you want to spend. Assets can go anywhere from as $7 to $50+ depending on what you are looking for. It would help your render times if you went for an rtx card, but do know the current market for that is INSANE, unless you can find a microcenter.

Current 3070 RTX card I bought costed $1,100. Ask yourself how heavy you want to go into the game, because a 8gb card will will be kind of rough if you don't watch out your usage. Though there is sccene optimizers in the daz store that will help you out tremendously in saving total usage.

It would be great if you watched tutorials, especially ones about lighting.

Thank you for the reply. Will definitely save up some money for a better graphics card.

1. Only shop when there's a sale on DAZ website, renderosity or renderotica
2. Learn 3 point lighting(sometimes 2 lights are enough, comes down to preference)
3. Look Up WpGuru, Parmy Baddhan, renderguide tutorials on how to use DAZ
4. Nvidias IRAY is preferable to 3Delight which is used when you got an AMD card. A ngreedia 20xx series card is good and will take you far but if you get a 30xx card with more RAM than 8GB, go for it.
5. Get yourself 1-3 cheap G3 models and some swimsuits and play around with morphs, poses, character interaction and maybe animation.
6. Get yourself the Head and Body morphs from DAZ. it's needed if you want to give your own models a twist to stand out from the crowd and some characters on the DAZ store only work with it installed.
7. Subscribe to my patreon lolz

That's all I can think of right now. Have fun.

I don't know why they are saying you need to invest in a top of the line GPU, especially considering todays market where you can't find GPU's anywhere. A mid range gaming rig is more than enough for a starting VN production. Hell I'd even advocate starting small and scaling with your needs.

There's also ways to optimize your PC to better handle impact. Also if you are going to invest in something, I'd recommend getting a Ryzen cpu more than anything else. For one, you can find them easily, secondly they are made for parallel processing and can handle layered tasks more that involve themselves in things like production work.

Priority list for me would be:

1) High thread count CPU
2) Mid range GPU
3) Lots of Ram
4) SSD

And optimize what you got. Cut out unnecessary background tasks. Clear up space. Clean your equipment if it needs it. You'd be amazed what these little things amount to when you start adding them up.

I'd especially argue that for a new dev that it's important not to push yourself to invest in something your still trying to figure out. For all you know once your down a couple grand you'll realize you don't really enjoy it and that's no good.

Thank you for the advice. I was thinking about starting with my mid range pc first. I want to make a game with a decent story that will have many kinks and will be multiple protagonist. I want it to be horror genre. My friend who is a English major has even started working on the script.
