Hello all,

I am attempting to make the switch from the world of MacBooks, to PC laptops. I want a gaming laptop that won't break the bank. Something that can play all of the Windows filed games on here and games like Starcraft II, Red Dead Redemption 2, and really any game coming out, or that has been released in the last 10 years.

I am looking for something under 1K, but would be willing to max-out at $1,200. I do not need a big ass screen, so really if it has good ram and memory, then I am also game.

2 Major Question:
If I make this switch, will I be able to play any of the windows file games on here? Or has windows gone the way of Mac and not allowed users to download games not made, or updated before 2020?

Also, viruses. Best way to avoid them with the PC? I know viruses exist for Mac, but I've not encountered them as frequently as I had when I owned a PC in the past.

Thanks!

Under 1k for Red dead 2? Gonna be hard if you want to play at high framerate and/or high resolution. What is you target? 30, 60 fps? 1080p, or more? Something with a 3060 graphic card will be the minimum I would play that game, but a 3050 should do the job for 1080p.

For your questions:

Some games are too old and cannot run on moder windows. But there is emulator for that. There is also emulators for the old consoles...

The best way to avoid viruses is not doing stupid things. Then Adblock. As for antivirus It really depend on your needs /use. I use the one integrated in windows, but I know what I am doing. Generally. Most of the times.

Obligatory "Do you really need a laptop?" post. I know some people can properly take advantage of a laptop's portability, but gaming laptops tend to be on the bulkier side, particularly if you have a budget. And then if you're going to get a desktop you might as well build one since it's dead-easy. Even if you don't trust yourself with technology, building a modern pc is basically a slightly more expensive Lego kit and the internet is full of people and videos who can help you out. Building your own pc gives you unrivaled customization, and if you're on a budget you can even save a bit of cash by buying your storage-harddrive and Windows later or relying on second-hand parts. It's easier to repair a self-built pc if a specific component craps out and you can also make smaller upgrades here and there to still have a very capable system even 5 years from now.

There's also the option to keep your laptop for lighter tasks and mobile use while using the desktop for proper gaming and making renders or whatever.

For the questions:
You can play nearly all the Windows games. Some games get compatability patches so they work properly on newer versions of Windows, while others can be emulated using built-in Windows programs. Super old stuff can usually be emulated too, it might just require a little legwork on your part.
The best way to avoid viruses is to simply browse smarter. Like Vanderer, I also just rely on smart browsing, Adblock, and Windows's built-in antivirus, and I haven't had any problems for years. I don't pirate as hard as I used to, but with storage being cheap and Internet being fast it's easier to find a safe, reliable place these days. Just make sure your Adblock is always on.

Thank you for all the great information. I did just settle for Lenovo 3i-15 Gaming Laptop. I think my rationale was, "Do I really need something that in depth if I just plan to play porn games?" I think if I do play more PC games, I'll play games like Civilization and StarCraft.

Next question I have is, Do any folks on here buy porn games? If so, where?

Most of the games here work on the patreon model. Dev make the game and receive money from patrons every month.
Some devs reserve the game for their patrons, some give the game for free, some give it for free but the patron have access before the rest.

Nearly every single one of them is pirated though. But, of course, if nobody donate to the dev, far less games are going to be made.

There is also the sites that sell Japanese games but I don't know much about that scene.

Some are on Steam, like "Love of Magic" for example.

For 1200$US and patience you can buy a beastly desktop. Patience being watching for sales on sites like New Egg and Amazon for the parts. On the Bestbuy website last week I was looking for a new Mobo for the BFF and I saw an amazing Cyberpower for a little over 1200, individual parts would've probably run 2k. (You got about an 80% chance of getting a really solid cyberpower, but that other 20%means you'll probably be making a trip back to bestbuy for an exchange when it craps out on you) Can't find that same one now though.

You're gonna be hard pressed with that budget to buy a good gaming laptop that's gonna work reliably well with modern games, and as mentioned above, RD2 is gonna run poorly. If all you're serious about is playing games from here, with a few exceptions a tablet can run most shit from here with a few emulators.

Laptops are terrible Value and most of them suck ass and overheat. Also most people dont even use the portability of a Laptop and just use it at Home where they could instead is a real PC.

Which model did you choose? In general, the series should fit your needs and be good if you're mainly looking to play slightly older (or porn) games. If you chose a model with 8GB ram and 256GB ssd I strongly recommend upgrading those basically immediately. I upgraded last year, and having 16GB of ram and a larger secondary drive make simply using my computer a smoother experience.

I still recommend building a pc though!

I don't by any porn games because I'm a neet. If I wasn't I'd probably mostly still pirate though and just throw a few bucks at the dev's Patreon since Steam/GOG don't sell porn games in my country anyway.

I got the 16GB of ram and 1TB SSD. I think it might be overkill for these kinds of games, however, as I have been looking into the world of PC games, it seems there are a lot more adult options from the triple A world. Have you played Subverse?

Some folks I've chatted with on here said it was a flop, but I am curious to know if it's at least worth a run through now that I can actually play it! haha. Speaking of which, now that I have a PC, what games should I play? StartCraft will be on the list of course. I've not played a Starcraft game since I was in High School... Yes, I am old.

I used to love the OG star craft, my favorite tactic was a wall of tanks in tank mode, then a wall of tanks in howitzer mode. (bad with names) I used to test tactics at the point where Kerrigan gets swarmed and I was amazed at how long I could hold out before I lost Kerrigan.

As far as AAA games, you don't need an adult AAA game to have an adult AAA game. Mods could make barney and friends make a sailor blush.

Rimworld is a pretty fun colony builder game. (I have about 3k hours in it myself). With Rimjobworld and it's many addons you could be fucking dragons within the hour. It's actually an indie game but it's better than many AAA games I've played lately.

Skyrim,, well, there are so many adult mods for that game it's almost gross to see the wasted talent. It' also an older game and likely to run pretty well on a reasonably modern setup.

Hell there's even adult mods for Stellaris, some are kinda meh,, well most are.

I haven't played Subverse. There are so many games to be played that I try to stick to completed ones, and in Subverse's case it's difficult to separate the "they got so much money and gave us this" posts from ones more focused on critique so I figure I'll just check back in three years and see how it's gone.

I haven't played many rts games aside from Warcraft 3 and Populous: The Beginning, but I imagine you caught those the first time around too. XCOM: Enemy Within was excellent and should count as adjacent content. The new Tomb Raider and Yakuza game are good. The Steam Summer Sale is coming up soon (probably before the end of June) so you'll be able to get some decent deals then.

Rad! I look forward to embarking down this rabbit hole! HAHA. From what I have learned, I seem to have fucked up by not going all in with an actual PC tower gaming computer, but I think for now, this might be a good way to get my feet wet. If anything, I can just use this comp for storing way too many sex games, and then work my way to the gaming PC once I actually get good at playing on this platform.
