Hello, all ye nsfw gaming enthusiasts!
Am a game programmer and a writer, seeking to try delving into the sexual game making business.
I've got to ask you, the people - and I would very much appreciate your opinions, thoughts and feedback:

1) I see that many sexual games often reuse the same base models, with slight changes or sometimes no changes to given presets at all. Does this bother you? If so, to what extent and how?

2) What genre of porn games do you like to play often? VN? RPG? A mix of both? Management simulator?

3) Would you consider playing new/more text-based erotic games, similar to Corruption of Champions?

Hiya.

I'm not a good resource for answers on (1) because I generally don't play 3DCG games. I think, though, that the answer you get will be something along the lines of: porn gamers can generally tell when you're using base Daz or HS or whatever assets, and they're going to expect you to do some customization work on them.

For (2), you're going to get kind of a split from this forum. I think the majority population (lurkers aside) are VN players who play for the plot (and the porn). I oughta let them say that for themselves, though. Myself, I spend most of my time on either RPGs or trainers/simulations. Lately it's been the Era games, which are basically all text, which kinda addresses your (3).

For a text-based game, though, I think there's pretty wide agreement that you ought to have at least some images, even if it's just portraits or something like that. Most if not all of the popular text-based games I've seen on this forum, at least, have at least some graphics even if it's pretty minimal. A person could probably get away with 3D Custom Girl or Honey Select or something for the portrait parts of a text game, although I haven't myself seen anyone take that route.

Anyhow, hope it helps.

1) Doesn't bother me, but your own models would certainly make you stand out
2) VNs because they're the easiest to tell a good story by and has no grind
3) No because i spend a lot of time reading during the day anyway

I'd say pixelated side scrollers are the the most wholesome games since they're easy to make so tend to actually get finished!

All the best

1) In my opinion every game should have unique looking characters. Just buying a model and leaving it as is detrimental and shows that the developer didn't make a lot of effort. You can create the character only once so make the best of it (mid game alterations are a no for me).

2) VN's. Management games unfortunately tend to be too shallow, grindy and repetitive. RPG's are usually done in RPG Maker which I find unfriendly and obsolete in terms of UI and gameplay.

3) I'm not familiar with the game, but I wouldn't play purely text based game. I'm a sucker for pictures in that regard. However, I'm perfectly fine with playing a game that uses sprites for most of its storytelling.

Good luck with your game!

Reusing characters doesn't bother me but I don't play enough Daz based VN's to notice it anyway. I can count on one hand those I bother with.

I'm mainly an RPG and romance VN kinda girl. The ones I read are typically Japanese made. It's not because I think they are better, truth be told I don't "get" a lot of the culture like the honorifics and how even when talking to loved ones they always sound so formal, it's just they seem to make the ones with more in depth stories that give me something to read. The typical VN is 30 - 50 hours whereas the typical western VN is between 2 and 10.

It's also the reason I love RPG's, it's something I can sink my time into. If i'm going to invest in something I want it to last me a while.

The exceptions being things like Depraved awakening, Twists of my Life, Where the Heart Is, Wicked Choices and i'm interested to see where Notty goes with Heavy Five.

My main interests lie with games like Roundscape, Last Sovereign, Yumina, Bunny Black, Kamidori, Daughter of Essence, Caliross and Renryuu Ascension.

There are some that have a bit of both gameplay and novel like Hardcoded and Fate of Irnia.

I do tend to avoid incest based games or games that look like they would be incest based if not for Patreon. A lot of them have really shit writing and terrible characters, avoiding them is best for my sanity. Incest doesn't quite dampen the panties either, it does nothing for me sexually.

As for text based games, sure, I do enjoy them. I loved CoC before they abandoned it for TiTS then loved it again when the fans started finishing it off. I love TiTS, I am starting to get into CoC 2 (hopefully won't half arse it this time, counting on you Savin). Lilith's Throne is pretty good and Accidental Woman would have been great if it had actual content. There are some really good outliers too that didn't quite hit mainstream like Fenexo did with Allure of Wanton Cove and Academy of Fetishes.

As long as the character model is attractive, I don't really care. To me it's like seeing the same actor in different movies.

That said, any improvements to make the model more attractive and polished is a plus.

2) What genre of porn games do you like to play often? VN? RPG? A mix of both? Management simulator?
I tend to mostly play Twine games, mainly because I like reading. Also, text can be a bit more flexible than images, as far as the directions the story can go. You can have more locations, without having to render all of them, etc...

That's part of the reason why I became a Twine developer myself.

3) Would you consider playing new/more text-based erotic games, similar to Corruption of Champions?
I tried playing "CoC", but I was quickly overwhelmed by the number of choices, the lack of direction, and the fact that the setting wasn't described very well, so I didn't get very far. Maybe I just needed to play more or maybe it wasn't my kind of game. I dunno.

" " is my favorite (despite the awful engine), mainly because it's different every time you play it, but also because it has a few of my favorite fetishes. My other favorite text games are ones like " ", " ", and " ". Generally, games where there are a lot of different avenues to explore, but they don't overwhelm you with too many choices at once.

Hope that helps! :)

1) Yes it bothers me. If I see a model from another game, in my mind I transfer the personality from that other game to your game, even though they may be very different persons.

2) I prefer visual novels, because I find most "game play" elements distracting. Very very occassionaly they can be fun, but usually it just adds unneccessary grind.

3) Sure!

1) Depends on the model that's being used and their role in the story. If it's a character popularized by a different game and it's not a an homage or cameo, it bugs me. Otherwise, I think it's generally just laziness or inexperience by the creator, especially if they're trying to create anything more than a money grab. Especially if it's a main character. I don't think every character should be created from scratch, minor roles especially (like the barista at the coffee shop), but it doesn't take a lot of work to at least tweak an already existing model into something not instantly recognizable. However, I'll also say that the number of good looking models and assets is pretty limited.

2) Mostly VNs or what I call dynamic VNs, where choices actually impact the story/gameplay. Sandbox and other style games can be good time wasters, but I generally find them frustrating because of they seem to take forever and a day to develop and usually end up getting abandoned before one leg of the story finishes, blue-balling the player.

3) Not a big text-based fan. It's nice to let the imagination run wild, but from an erotic perspective, I prefer to have something to look at.

1. I don't mind that often as long as it doesn't come off as lazy (Hard to quantify, but sometimes you can tell if a dev made this cast because they picked their favorite models from other games, or if it was just a lazy cut/paste job). There's a lot of split on here, some will dislike it immediately, others will react positively if you use models they specifically like ("Oh there's the mom from Big Brother! I love her!" etc.) but everyone will pretty much agree original models is the way to stand out (as long as they're. . . you know. . . good)

2. I'm okay with both as long as there's not a lot of missable content. That's my big pet peeve and I get that there's replay value to be had but that's if there's two routes or something, not when you have to do about 15 playthroughs to get every scene. I can do fine with both as long as there's not too much grinding in the sandbox. Having to say "Compliment co-worker" to get +2 affection once a day so you can get to 50 affection to progress is not fun. And it doesn't make the fun parts stand out more, it just loses fans.

3. I like my games visual, and it looks like newer games are going the way of animation over text-based, but it's not a dealbreaker. All depends on the content of the game

1. Seeing new models is great but i also like that some devs use the same unchanged models, it's like seeing my favorite actress in different movies

2. rpg's like succulence are fun they have enough content / fetishes to make up for all the running around you have to do (imho) but many others are too drawn out and the reward for the back and forth is not worth it. VN are great for stories like "Where the Heart is " great writing and content but some seem short or like they have less content because (depending on reading pace) you can go through them faster (no grind) so while an rpg and vn may have the same amount of content the vn
will seem lacking as player will spend less time in it and see content quicker.

3. i personally don't like text bases porn games, i admit that i have become spoilt and while in the past pictures were ok now i prefer animations in games so text if completely out for me.
