Made a separate thread to improve visibility and to help other people thinking about upgrading from older systems.
Also made a Daz Studio version comparison, that would help people decide if they want to try the beta version.

Recently I built a new desktop computer with rendering in mind.

New system:
Ryzen 7 processor.
32GB RAM.
Solid state disk drive.
GPU RTX 2080 Super.

My old system:
i7-4770k processor.
32GB RAM.
SSD.
GPU GTX 1080.

I made some test to see the improvements over my old system and this is what I found:

Test 1.
GPU: RTX 2080 Super
Optix acceleration enabled
Graphic driver: 435.80 gameready
Optix version: 7.0.0

DAZ Studio 4.12 (64-bit) Public Build +BETA+

Render settings:
Max samples: 1500
Firefly filter on
Post denoiser start iteration 1498
Render quality: Disabled
Coverage: 95%
Spectral observer: ciel1964

Render time: 22.24 minutes.

Test 2:

DAZ Studio 4.11 Pro (64-bit)

Render settings:
Max samples: 1500
Firefly filter on
Post denoiser start iteration 1498
Render quality: Disabled
Coverage: 95%

Render time: 25.24 minutes.

Test 3:
GPU: GTX 1080

Optix version: 6.0.0

Render time: 55.57 minutes.

Test 3:
GPU: GTX 1080

Render settings:

Render time: 53.06 minutes.

In short:

New GPU RTX 2080 Super best render time = 22.24 minutes.
Old GPU GTX 1080 best render time = 53.06 minutes.

New GPU with Daz Studio 4.12 beta = 22.24 minutes.
New GPU with Daz Studio 4.11 Pro = 25.24 minutes.

Old GPU with Daz Studio 4.12 beta = 55.57 minutes.
Old GPU with Daz Studio 4.11 Pro = 53.06 minutes.

So using the beta and the new GPU provides a speed boost over the regular Daz Studio version.
But seems like the Daz beta makes the shadows softer, I guess the shadows are handled in a different way and they require tweaking the render settings.
The new system is cutting my render times by more than half, I would say I'm getting about a 60% render speed improvement over my old system.

Holy fuck!!!

Anyone else around here who can post their 2080 render times? Maybe do a similar test??

If you could amend the thread title, you might put GPU RTX 2080 Super - Comparison ( or something like that). As a hobbyist, you are on the bleeding edge with that.... as most of us are still dreaming about getting one.

Updated the tittle to include more GPU details.

I was able to get a new system by saving some money each month, had to limit my budget for a while, made some numbers and each month I moved 300 bucks to another account.

I prefer to save up rather than add to my debt. :geek:

I'm glad I didn't bother trying to get a 1070. An hours render time is what I get with CPU alone. Then again, you need GPU ram to fill up a scene with more that two characters (Daz crashes if you don't for those not in the know). I'm glad to be away from all Daz work now frankly. Trying to do it all was just too much. I wish you well, and great projects to work on.
