Review for v0.1.0
Tentative four stars. It's a bit early for a true review tbh, and maybe that's why I have mixed feelings on the game. If it doesn't pick up in the next update I'd probably drop it down a star, but I don't think three stars feels fair given how the game has yet to really kick off. Not like it was bad either.
I'm for a good detective story, mostly because I feel like I have yet to come across a good AVN one. For one reason or another you left the police force and started a detective agency along with a coworker who helps you out from time to time. Problem is you aren't making enough to keep it going. Opportunity walks in taking the form of a rich wife who wants to figure out why her husband is stealing from their private joint bank account, and is willing to pay a lot for it. Sounds like some shady dealings are involved.
That's the basic plot so far anyway. You do go off to investigate the lady's son, but after that segment the game quickly veers away with what is essentially a little side quest that I think is meant to introduce one of the main love interests. She hires you to find a missing photo. Truthfully I think the whole thing was rather boring and maybe contrived is the word. Feels like there could have been a more natural way to discover her true identity that was more engrained into the main plot? The game ends shortly after "solving" it which is why I say I hope it starts to pick up.
All the banter and dialogue feels pretty natural give or take a few spots. Particularly the lawyer girl whose name I'm forgetting, but I probably like her the most thus far even though we get very little of her. I actually like what is being done with the son character too in that he's not JUST a shitty rich kid who shows up once. While the renders maybe aren't top of the line, they still look good enough. The models look relatively unique and I think that's a nice plus. Not a whole lot of complaints on the technical front. I suppose the music isn't super memorable since I can't remember much about it. I do like the little point and click sections to give you a little player input, but it's hard to say how important they actually are. It seems you can unlock or miss scenes based on actions you take in them at the least.
Sex scenes, judging based on the one present, are an area I'm also mixed on. Animations do the job, but the dialogue felt almost robotic. Just was not very intimate. The game also uses moan audio, but the clips it uses include both the guy and the girl moaning. Personal preference, but I just don't need a guy moaning in my ear during a sex scene man. Then when you turn the moan volume down, you turn down the sex sound effects too which is unfortunate.
I could see this either turning into a cool detective story or an average dating sim with a detective them in the background. Hoping for the former.
