Older men have ALWAYS mocked younger men for being weak and unmanly, and it has always been overblown. "Your generation is soft! When I was your age, I was fighting in the trenches or jungles of so and so/walking 20 miles in the freezing cold just to get to school." and "Cut your hair and get a job! You look like a damn girl!" You'll find it in The Clouds by Aristophanes (5th century BC) and in the works and private correspondence of other writers of classical antiquity (e.g. Sallust, Livy, Juvenal), and all throughout history. Many books have been written on this exact subject. I'm not saying there isn't some truth to the claim that men are getting softer, but so is the world (well, generally speaking). That's just a(n inevitable?) consequence of material progress.Yeah that's what I meant I feel like people are repeating talking points from 2000s but the world is different now. Idk if it's just you but I see people especially older people mock men as being too feminine even. So like it can't be both ways at the same time can it?
And you don't think the same thing is true of your previous statements: "Dunno what year you're living in bro but if you speak to any young people they're all(not literally all but it's not rare at all)into femboys and whatnot." and "Idk man I don't feel like that's true at all. From what I see all the stuff you mentioned that is supposedly seen as gay is super popular on social media and spoken about plainly."? I think you might be experiencing what's called the out-group homogeneity effect (the tendency to see members of another group as all the same and to overgeneralize from a few examples), probably because of the fucking recommendation algorithm. I never see stuff like that in my feeds, nor have I ever spoken to a young person who was vocal about being into femboys (other than here on f95, that is).Anyways I think this sigma male shit is way overblown and is essentially a meme at this point. It's just the social media method of operations that you have to say outrageous shit to get attention. It goes for both sexes, the craziest opinions are being brought into the spotlight.
There was a funny tweet I saw, it was an experiment - someone posted something positive and something negative, two tweets and the negative one got loads more attention.

Psychologists have been studying the phenomenon since the '70s. Maybe even longer.
It's evolutionary. Our ancestors needed to prioritize threats like predators and other dangers to survive. For modern people living in the industrialized world, it's mostly just a cause of unnecessary stress and anxiety.
