Hey guys!

Quick question, I see a lot of interesting games that are text based or HTML but for some reason, it's like a turn off for me, I don't like the format.

I'm just curious to know what you guys think of text based and HTML games. Like am I missing something? Is there something about them I should know of because honestly, I haven't really gave a shot to any, mostly because of scrolling down on each page.

I'm not judging or anything, I just don't want to pass on something that might worth it...

Thank you for your answers! :)

Some good but most are bad, just like any other genre.

Personally I will shit all over VNs, and it's not because of the reading part. It's because they're boring, linear, static, and are often accompanied by uncanny valley skinwalker 3D models with candle wax cum. I also don't like most HTML games if only because the visual aids they provide are unfitting and inconsistent, which makes it distracting and thus not immersive. I'd rather have a text game that provides no visuals than that.

Now, onto text games.
First off they're often more open-ended and provide more choice because it's easier to code and create them. No playing around with some 3d model or whatever for every option you provide. No having to make new art or a new model for new characters. So they are often a bit more dynamic in what you can do in them. I appreciate RPGs with complexity and choice.

Secondly, it's all about imagination. It can provide a strong stimuli so long as you keep engaged... Which can depend on the skill of the writer too. There is something to assembling the characters and scenarios in your mind, almost as if they're yours. Like you're the artist painting a picture in your head of the hottest character you can imagine just with a given description. That's something visual aids will often distract you from. It's part of the old adage of the books being better than the movies.

Lastly, characterization and world building is generally a lot better. Part of a writer's grit is how well they.. well, write. So when a text game IS regarded as good, it's because the writer didn't suck ass. You'll see better characters in them and you're more likely to see unique worlds and stories in them rather than some cookie cutter bullshit pasted over and over again. It can really give you something to sink your teeth into.

Really though, it's not for everyone. Lack of imagination, time, or just being unable to sit still to read is going to hinder a lot of people from playing them.

Thank you, I appreciate it! Well detailed answer makes it easier for me to understand why some people are into this genre. I'll have to at least give it a try someday but i'm affraid it might not be for me anymore...

I'm using the word ''anymore'' because I use to be a very cerebral person but since I had some chemo treatments, I'm having a hard time to concentrate. I'm working my ass off to get back to what I was before but I'm truly diminished.

Do you have any recommendations as for games that you really liked and I could look at?

Once again, thank you!

I see, sorry to hear that.

The classic staples I can think of off the top of my head would be Corruption of Champions (I was particular to the /hgg/ mod of it) and Lilith's Throne. Those are heavily reliant on text to convey things. CoC moreso since Lilith's Throne started adding pictures for some NPCs.

Other games I could suggest that do have visuals but remain text reliant are Monster Girl Dreams, Divine Dawn, Degrees of Lewdity, and Lust Doll.

These are all fairly popular text games, so I'm not spitting out anything underground here. My very first text h-game was probably Corruption of Champions some long while ago, it sported pretty much no visuals.

WOW! Thank you so much! I'm definitely looking forward to try at least one of these games! :)

My opinion is biased, but fuck it, I'm going to say it anyways. I love them. I'm very into text games and erotica, and I have played some games, mostly sandbox that were amazing. I don't mind heavy grinding, and the real porn or pure text scenes turns me on as much as the usual CG scenes.

In fact, 2 of the 3 games that inspired my game are Real porn text sandboxes. But It's true, it's rare to find new games that has some quality, most devs rush the release, so much that some games barely have 10-20 minutes of content. But there are many stablished games that give hours of content. You just need to browse a bit more.
