Opinions regarding Chinese H-RPG

We are starting to see more and more of these games coming out. So I did like find out from you guys how do you feel about most of them out there.

Personally I have tried a few but left some untouched, due to different preferences of art and/or OS errors.

While I do like the art work of some of them (Evil goddess and Tail of Desire) there is one issue that I feel is almost exclusively Chinese.

The games are too damn long and complicated.

In order to complete some of the games out there you have to spend on average 10-20 hours which is insane for a H-RPG. And not just simple grinding either, most of them involves complex management systems, character progressions and what nots and those are the easy ones. The last one I tried had puzzle games and timed events that won't be out of place in the Mystery of Mortlake Mansion, I basically gave up half way through.

And the devs are still adding to them. It makes attempting the game as a new comer almost overwhelming, and for older players it can began to feel like a chore to keep up with all the little updates just to get a new titbit here and there.

What are you own opinions on them ? Do let me know.

Not sure about chinese RPG stuff, but their shovelware puzzle games are about as dull as it can get.

And they are locked into game progression, yeah trying to solve a tile puzzle 10 times in a row sure is fun.

And they are locked into game progression
freemium tradition fucked up the development behavior since han dynasty, so yeah :sneaky:
expect the game progression to have this distinct 'eastern vibe' (read:the paywall feel)
as rule of thumb, if it has lesser than 20 in-game feature it's not chinese game yet

played one of them (bitch raider) and can second on that unnecessary difficulties / complexity
the scene if recollected in the end felt never justified the grind, the gameplay is real bruh :ROFLMAO:

i don't know anything about chinese HRPG, but if they are so complicated as you say i would never understand why devs like doing that
i like HRPG for the exploring, but i don't want to struggle with the game, i need my blood in other place, not in my brain...

I gotta admit I've never played a single Chinese H-RPG. Never ran into one.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to what the current best 3-4 such games are?

Don't know if I've ever played one or not, but I know that I greatly dislike many Asian MMOs. Between P2Win mechanics and epic grinds it's definitely not for me.

Guess the only way to find out what they're like is to see if Duck Duck Go can find me one that's translated.

As far as I know , Chinese developers are nervous. Porn is unlawful in China, so they can not make a series of works generally.

Chinese police have been arresting a lot of porn-related staffs in this year, including translater groups, webmasters and artists.
Because of the terrible creative environment, the only thing they can do is to add content in their game without plan.

I don't think game difficulty are necessarily tied to fee-to-play in this kinds of game, as it does take creativity effort to create said difficulty.

I do admit that there are some games that use explicit paywall features even for games that are just translated. The most ridiculous I have ever seen was the locking of the gallery unlock button even when you completed the game which was BS.

it does take creativity effort
it only takes some reasonable aptitude at math, seriously. the name and stuff can come up later
but the number is important to make it in sweetspot between unbearable grind and tedious play
use explicit paywall features
it's called hard sell :sneaky:

all you need to ask once the game become long and complicated is
are they repetitive with increment in quantity that perceived as difficulties. . .
when it's basically can be just a simple resource management
if yes welcome to freemium timegating or whatever chinese game use nowadays as their method
this usually happen when there are not enough content (by the dev) to match the expected gameplay hour (by the user)
thus timegating employed as duct tape
it hasn't to be explicit countdown on every act (or energy system), just it will be waste a lot of your time

Lost Treasures was made by Aerodynamics and uses art drawn by 13o, both from China. See for yourself if that's your thing, especially since it's been translated to English (both old and new versions).

Medium to high complexity funstuff with fully original content, great art, fun and decent dialogue, zero censorship and high playability is an instant win here.

Personally i don't care what country it comes from as long as it matches my tastes. OP said "RPG" but i'm not sure if it was meant RPG Maker style games only or any RPG including 3D. The only thing i may have noticed is that for 3D games, the char models in Chinese games tend to be more realistic in proportions which is what i like. Compare that to Western devs who tend to over-exaggerate proportions. At least this has been the case for the 3D games i'm aware of, but i should note that i usually don't pay attention to where a game came from. No idea about RPG Maker style games because i can only name 1 from any country that i've been interested in in recent years.

The interface reminds me of Honkai Impact. Looks fun but Unity VN, ugh. Also, Steam... Might be fun to try though.

Yeah actually found it because we were talking about Unity VNs in the other thread, it's pretty cringe.

Edit: Just realized maybe this comment wasn't clear what was cringe. I meant making VNs in unity is cringe.

I'm using a $2k gaming rig and this thing sends my CPU and GPU into the 180-185F zone.
Fuck Unity, my hands (what's left of them) are frying as I type.

Not touching any Unity game ever again.

I've noticed a lot of Unity games doing that to my PC as well, only one that doesn't is Rimworld (fairly sure it's a unity game) but then again it's an actual professional product. (yeah it's unity, just looked it up) Had one cause my PC to reboot and like yours it's it would be considered a high dollar setup.

Carrera Glad to know I'm not the only one... I need a better cooling setup, but honestly, Unity is overkill at rendering and shading. Requiring Kelvinator-tier fans for a VN made in Unity makes you go wait what.

It even does that for 2D platformers with too many fancy effects. Hell, even actual nukige that shake too much.

My PC is an all AMD build, custom built, I'm not trying to compare peens but I'm curious if theres a common denominator because I actually hear very few people complain about unity games causing overheating but it's defintely a problem with my setup. Again, except for Rimworld but it does get hotter than anything else I've checked.
