Otome * Domain is better than the vast majority of traditional VN's, and the way its premise is implemented is the biggest selling point. You can look at any aspect of this title, and quickly realize that the effort to go above and beyond is there, even if the standard formula still applies. This means that many of the usual tropes, archetypes and logic will be found here, but enough was done to lose the feeling of "more of the same".
Positive:
- Trap protagonist - The concept itself is already rare in the medium, but the character's behaviour and effects on the plot are the real treat. The protagonist has an appropriate look, the skills of a young housewife, and a conservative, mild, and girly manner. Then he has the "right gear" for the H-scenes, and is voiced by a female voice actress. It just works™.
- One of the most peculiar main heroines ever in a VN - Inscrutable is probably the right word to define her. It's impossible to tell if she is gonna say/do something sweet, endearing, that portrays her in a positive light, or if what's coming is straight up comic relief with a touch of outlandish. Her route is average, but the character itself becomes instantly memorable, courtesy of a particular scene.
- It's an enjoyable read - With steady pacing, pleasant slice of life, more than enough comedy, and a bit of "feeling" and inner conflict. Probably the main reason for the score, Otome * Domain is good at grabbing your attention for long periods of time.
- Production values are good - Voice acting, art style and visuals, lots of options, OST, bonus stories implementation, and more. The technical side of things has quality, and that's important too.
Negative:
- Mostly nitpicking, but there's a clear difference between the premise/character quirk based content, and the usual high school setting shenanigans. Otome * Domain shines when it stays away from established conventions.
Score: Otome * Domain is an 8/10, and that means i'm placing it above, most other traditional VN's. The premise and its development as the story progresses, are sufficient to recommend this to anyone who felt intrigued after reading the synopsis. Very solid VN, with almost no weaknesses.
(H-scenes are good for for this type of VN, and make use of personalities + plot to feel coherent with current setting, but the duration is a problem - way too long individually, and usually 2 in quick succession.)
