RPGM - Completed - Overgrown: Genesis [v1.03.2] [Dystopian Project]

    Solid RPGM with an interesting story and well done setting. I rarely enjoy RPGMs so if I find one I enjoy, it's generally going to be pretty well made. It can't quite escape engine limitations though, so a clunky interface and dialog system is still there. But it has enough going for in every other way: Interesting real-time combat system that I've never seen before and some pretty decent survival elements that actually makes it fun to play and explore. This is way beyond the usual fetch-quest busy-work RPGM.

    Enjoyed the first 2/3 the most. It's well written and flows well. Got a bit annoying towards the end unfortunately, and the un-killable final enemy + dark room + limited batteries + no way to get more (that I knew of) was really the final straw. Forced through it to get one of the endings, and had no desire left to try for the rest after that. I'm sure there's still some crap circuit breaker hidden in a corner of that huge-ass building somewhere... No clue what they were for...

    Scenes/art is pretty good but there isn't too much of it. There's like a dozen different enemy types with 2-3 defeat scenes for each. Each scene is a handful of pictures at most. Plus the endings and some additional bad endings..

    An excellent RPGM game, it drops turn based combat for real time combat and it works quite well, it manages to have a survival-ish kind of feeling without feeling like you're being dragged down and progression is nice with some really neatly done characters. Don't have many complaints about this one except that the night time dogs can go fuck themselves.

    I imagine reviews of this game are biased based on the writer's preferences. For me, I typically like a game that has an interesting story and characters, with a healthy dose of H-scenes thrown in. I don't mind RPGM (in fact, if done properly, I prefer RPGM). I also don't mind a little bit of combat / video game elements, but I also don't seek those games out.

    Overgrown is more of a video game with some porn elements added. For Acts I & II, the goals and the gameplay are intuitive. Act III throws you in the deep end - heavy combat / video game elements - with a significant jump in difficulty. I was able to play (and enjoy) Acts I & II without cheats (graciously provided within the game), but found Act III was basically impossible without cheats (and without getting advice from f95zone). The change from "this is kind of ominous, but fun and clever" to "I'm basically running around like a chicken trying to not get my head chopped off" was too stark for me. I changed from "I don't want this to end" to "I'm now just playing for the ending."

    Story: Actually pretty good overall story arc.

    Character development: Not so much. Which is mostly fine in this style of game.

    Game engine: Not abused for the first 75% of the game and, in fact, had some clever elements I hadn't seen before (e.g. needing a flashlight). RPGM element became very annoying in the final 25% - the final act takes place in a HUGE building with a gazillion rooms and a multitude of "click on me" points -- maybe this appeals to the video game enthusiast, but for me it was just annoying AF.

    Renders: There aren't a lot, but they're original and well done.

    H-scenes: I didn't find them fappable at all. No animation (and thank god, because if you look at the "test" animation in the gallery it is HORRIBLE). Fap scenes were typically one or two pictures with a LOT of text.

    Bugs: I didn't find any. Never crashed. Never froze.

    Other goodies: Game has built in cheat (which I found pretty necessary). Has a gallery (why doesn't every dev provide a gallery?).

    TL;DR: More video game than porn game, if that's your thing then this is for you. If it isn't your thing, at least give this a try until you get annoyed - the first 2/3rds is fun for all.

    Has that resident evil feel to it , as a survival horror games fan this game got me completely hooked.
    - the story is so engaging and interesting enough for me to actually stop and read the dialogues and not just skip through.
    - CG is very good but could be a bit better.
    - the gameplay is what i love most, this isn't another RPGM game just for the sake of free roam where it could've been RenPy and still deliver the same experience, NO! you have to collect and upgrade weapons, solve puzzles, survive enemies etc...
    - nice replayability value if you want to see the outcome of each ending.
    All in all it's a solid 5/5, i find myself playing this game to have fun and not to just rub one off. If you like survival horror games then you will surely enjoy what this game offers.

    As a game, it is ok. As an H-Game is absolutely terrible.

    It's a lose-to-see game with very few scenes that will make you to solve puzzles and walk around forever, if you are into that go for it. if you are here to fap you pick the wrong game fool.

    Also if you have seen the images from the description, you already saw 60% of the H-content available so yeah.

    --------
    You get the feeling from this game that wasn't made to be an erotic one but added after it was already finished, let me give you an example:
    You chat with a guy who hasn't seen a woman's in months and you have the option to ask him "You don't get lonely sometimes alone in here" you expect something erotic to happen after that because you're playing an h-game but the guy starts to tell you the story of his life how he ends up alone.
    There is no erotic interaction with any NPCs (except the 2 from the start) or at least a text that may imply that you are in an erotic game

    Everything related to adult content is lost to see that's why I say it has the feeling like it wasn't meant to be an erotic game.

    Let go to the gameplay:
    - your average start from the point A to take some x item from the point B and get back to A.

    - Puzzles not a single soul on this earth like them but this game is 80% puzzles.

    - Random game over: Ok, that really fucking stupid. you have open spaces you can go throw or doors that lead to an instant game over and game over doesn't mean it teleport you back from where you are, nop, it's load in old save. what? you didn't save for 1h? well... you shouldn't have explored the map.

    - Fighting, it's pretty easy just pew and the enemy is dead it could have been a positive point but you can't reload while running -> if one enemy catch you, spam "A" and it releases you but if a second one catches you it's rape and it's game over, yes. load the whole thing again. also yes, most of them are faster than you, also yes, you have a pretty low amount you can fire, also yes they are always more than 1 so yeah, success.

    The H-scenes, are good quality but very in very low amount (The game was released in Mar 19, 2017 FFS) (How I said in the beginning, they doesn't fit the game) always but always with no exception ever a bad thing to have H-scenes only with Defeat.

    The story, didn't finish it yet but from where I stop looks like that cliche "Humanity infested, you are the cure, everyone is a traitor, plot twist, plot twist" meh.
    ---------

    Conclusion: Absolutely unfappable game, play this if you want... idk. read the other reviews for that idk what they saw in this pile of crap.

    really enjoyed this g ame.

    great cg, though not too many

    gameplay is fun but requires attention (and a fair bit of reloading saves)

    the menu could be improved, also endings are not shown in gallery (for now). But this is not very important

    This game is excellent, one of the best on the site. The survival horror game is actually good, there is real tension as you play. You don't have to grind, avoiding combat is rewarded. The sex scenes are amazing, each part (the art, the writing, the trigger, the sexual content) is just 'good' on its own but altogether it is greater than the sum of its parts and this game ends up having some of the sexiest content out there. One of the few games that has a dev capable of game writing, script writing, art, sex scene writing and the ability to create a game that isn't a horrible buggy mess. The quality overall is much higher than almost any game on this site, for real.

    This review is for version 0.11.1, I'll keep it simple:

    Artwork 1/5 (ugly, especially cg)
    Story 2/5 (meh, it's utter bullshit, but at least they tried to put it together)
    Level design 1/5 (goddamn awful)
    Enemy design 1/5 (uninteresting, lame, bugged, asset reuse, AI doesn't exist and not scripted properly, zombies climb ladders - seriously?)
    Game design 0/5 (useless mechanics, useless items, useless side quests, useless quests, useless locations full of uselessness)
    Writing 1/5 (weak, quest texts are dynamically updated, it's kinda pointless and a waste of time since nobody is going to read them in the first place)
    Gameplay 0/5 (as bad as it gets)
    Sound 1/5 (repetitive, inappropriate, unprofessional)
    Controls and UI 0/5 (you shoot whenever you use a skip button, for example)
    Porn value 1/5 (I've seen worse)

    This is top-notch.
    Beautiful and hot art, interesting story, challenging gameplay that takes skill but zero grind. What more do you need?

    I guess the only downside is that scenes are focused mostly on rape and mind-break, but that's to be expected in sex zombies virus apocalypse :D

    Story 4/5
    Artworks 4/5
    Gameplay 4/5
    Fap value 2.5/5

    I loved playing Claire's quest, but I gave up on this game after one hour of play time . The main reason is the way the sex scenes are introduced. In Claire quest, the sex is at the center of the gameplay and of story and has to be actively pursued. In Overgrown, the sex is more a result of a game over. Dying to see the lewd artworks is a game mechanic I hate. I also find it hard to get turned on by the zombies and the post apocalyptic atmosphere (blood on the streets, etc.).

    As for the game controls, Overgrown is a third-person shooter. As the main protagonist progresses, the zombies are more numerous and more aggressive, and it gets really challenging. However I am not looking for challenges in a adult game.

    It's pity. The artworks are a great and the story interesting. Personally I would have love the story to be more lewd. For example, the scientists could have restrained the main protagonist and have experimented on her to find a cure to the disease. (But actually I don't know if this something that happens, but at my current progression it doesn't hint in this way).

    Reviewing v0.10.5

    An excellent game so far, somewhat underappreciated by the local community.

    The good stuff:
    • Good art. Not GOAT by any means, but given other numerous strengths of the game, asking for more is being a spoiled brat.
    • The game doesn't require you "to lose to win". In fact the game mechanically incentivizes you to avoid non-consensual dicking as much as possible, and rewards you by unlocking all the possible sex scenes in the gallery upon reaching certain plot points.
    • Impeccable level design. This is extremely rare with RPGM games, especially adult ones. Overgrown has a custom tile set and uses it to great success. All levels are packed with details and no place feels like a featureless wasteland. All levels are exactly as big as they need to be.
    • No grind. No turn-based combat. Thank gods for this. It compliments the previous point very nicely. You don't have to slog through the levels and are incentivized to fight as little as possible. Which is good.
    • Straightforward, coherent plot, delivered in a concise manner. This is the classic hero's journey formula. Be the ordinary (wo)man. Shit goes down. Survive. More shit to deal with. Survive some more. Bigger stuff is gradually revealed as you progress. Other devs should take note, this formula works. Yes, it's a 'generic' zombie apocalypse story. So fucking what, 9 out of 10 times gamedevs that try to write something more complex fail and come as pretentious idiots. Overgrown doesn't bite more than it can chew, and I'm thankful for that.
    • Atmospheric. Earlier chapters are rife with (optional) heavy stuff lying around. Disturbing notes left by deceased, people offing themselves to avoid becoming zombies. Aaahh, that's the stuff! MOAR, I NEED MOAR!
    • Interesting, albeit not perfectly balanced survival mechanics in the earlier chapters.
    The not so good stuff:
    • Somewhat meh sex scene writing, at least in my opinion. It's not bad, but feels like the weakest part of writing.
    • Most scenes are non-con or dub-con. The only consensual sex so far is lesbian. Is this a package deal that comes with the pink hair? Har har, mr. developer, har har har.
    • Somewhat clunky shooting mechanics. An obvious limitation of RPGM.
    • Zombies will be alerted to your presence through the walls. Probably a limitation of the game engine the devs could not overcome.
    • Not ideal inventory system. Yeah... I'm sensing a pattern here, most flaws of the game could be eliminated by rewriting it in Unity :LOL:
    tl;dr: 9.5/10, Overgrown offers 4+ hours of solid gameplay even before we factor in the sex scenes.

    Surprisingly good graphics, actually decent game content, and the zombies are sufficiently difficult to fight without being overwhelming. One of the best games I've played through on this site . Altogether a rather short game, you'll manage to play though most of the content rather quickly, but its still worth a shot.

    PROS
    - Good plot;
    - Straightforward story (no grinding);
    - Well written;
    - Good art;
    - Good gameplay;
    - Good amount of content;
    - Good soundtrack;
    - No bugs or errors;
    - A fresh air in a world dominated by fantasy RPGs and 3D incest.

    CONS
    - Not a big fan of games were I have to "lose to win", it's a personal taste yeah, but the game could have more scenes were the main character fucks because she likes to not because she had to.

    Game is good, but way too hectic for my taste. The art is super nice and very well done. The story and writing is okay. Quests seem natural and fit the story.

    What I don't like about the game though is the hectic pace and the fact that it's a game first, fap material second. That could have worked if it was a good game I would have played even without the XXX bits, but sadly that is not the case at all. I'm way too concentrated on not getting caught and running from zombies to appreciate the nice bits. The stressful music also does not help at all.

    I was never much into the "always run away from enemies"-play style and I think it's just a drag. This game is just Pac-Man with lewd "getting caught"-scenes. If you download this game without being super into Pac-Man gameplay you will quickly be turned away.

    To make the game difficult melee weapons like axes and knives have limited uses, which makes no sense to me. The game is already difficult enough, especially in the dark zones where you can't see the enemies. I got the game over sceen many times before I finally gave up without finishing it. I feel the art is really good, but at this point I'd rather just watch a CG rip then be bothered with the stress of the gameplay.

    A game with much promise, but it fells short for several reasons.

    First: I know, almost everybody here praises the writing, but I don't. The story couldn't be any more generic. It's basically Last of Us, but here only males turn into zombies, and they rape women. That's it. The story follows a surprisingly well-written woman in her path of survivng. For a porn game I WOULD call it a good story, but as the game uses sex scenes as punishment (and honestly, for my taste the majority of them are absolutely disgusting) you will want to avoid them. If not for else, then because they are either lead to an immediate game over, or a game over after the third time.
    Second: Gameplay. It's absolutely awful. It WANTS to be a survival game, but it cheats you to death by doing that. There are some zombies you can't outrun. The zombies can sense you through walls, even without firing a shot. The behavior of zombies is absolutely unpredictable. Sometimes they hear you from two rooms away, other times, you shoot one meter away from them, and they still don't hear it. These things wouldn't be a problem, IF it was a shooter, but it is not. It's a survival game, and absolutely basic mechanics don't work properly.
    Third: Dialogues. I don't remember the last time, when I met SOOO many pointless dialogues. They aren't entertaining, they aren't informative for most of the times, they are four times the length you usually meet in similar games, and at least two times the length what would be adequate.
    Fourth: sex scenes. Okay, this might be only my thing, but the majority of scenes are disgusting. Sure, you CAN avoid them, but then what's the point of playing a porn game? There are very few scenes that fall into the normal pervertness category, the others are about zombies, dogs, giant reptiles rape MC. There has been very little effort put in other scenes.

    All in all, sure, the artstyle is gorgeous, the writing is good for a porn game (but only for that) the main protagonist is likeable, but those are the only good things I can say about it.

    lo0u

    Well, overall I'd say this is a good well crafted RPGMaker game. I'll list a few things that stood out to me while playing as of version *0.10.4.

    I like the story, I think it's very interesting and has a good pacing. The main character is very attractive and has a strong personality, although quite generic in these kind of games. The art is original and pretty to me, but I wish there were more scenes and less black screens with text.

    The combat is interesting and quite simple, but it can be annoying in some situations. Due to the map being very cluttered, you'll often get stuck and get caught by the enemies during cooldowns and you'll either have to load a previous save, or deal with the infection level getting higher. I recommend everyone to save often during missions.

    Major problem to me:

    This game treats sex as a punishment to the MC; quite common trope in RPG games with female characters unfortunately. Every sex scene is either a gameover rape scene, or scenes where Juno is forced to do everything against her will. No, scratch that last part, she never does anything, she always stands there while being fucked or abused. She'll "enjoy" it after having no escape from it and that is a pathetic excuse for bad writing.

    There are very few instances when we get the choice of doing something, but even then, those scenes scene still feel rapey, since you can clearly see how disgusted Juno is during them.

    She never shows any sign of being sexually active, horny, or being interested in any other character. This game simply never rewards you and the MC with a satisfying sex scene. This is about doing missions and getting raped if you failed. Some scenes end the game, others simply raise your infection level. In other words, there's no reason to replay this game whatsoever.

    I absolutely hate this about female main characters in most games. How difficult is it to make a strong female character, that allows you to choose her actions and/or personality? Apparently very difficult, because in most games, you either have a completely unrealistic prude female character that will get abused and raped by everyone and become a slut. Or you have a girl with strong personality that will deny everything and despise sex, but will also get abused and raped, becoming a slut.

    Juno isn't even the latter as of yet by the way, because this game has very few sex scenes and none of them are satisfying. Some are definitely pretty to look at, but put them into context and they just turn you off. There are better games out there, lads, including the other game the same developer is making, which to me is much better. It's a shame though, because I much prefer this post-apocalyptic setting, MC and art style over Claire's Quest's.

    Love the game's art style, and the game itself is not too hard but not too easy either. Also, the nsfw scenes are not bad either. I like the way they make you empathize with the mc so I actually like her.

    Pretty good game imo
