The following review is based off my personal experience with playing this Game/Visual Novel... I try to be as brutally honest and detailed as I can, and these are my own opinions and thoughts, from one or more play throughs... The version this review is based on is v0.1.5 Part 1...
This VN/Game is primarily a porn fest with some story elements added... Problem is that it is slightly buggy...
The character visuals are a mix match of various Japanese styled fantasy characters of moderate quality, probably done with Honey Select... The backgrounds are low to moderate in quality, some of which are familiar... The user interface is a bit clunky in that you have to return to the Lobby to access most functions... Also, the quest list seems slightly buggy, as a couple quests would have later steps turn green (I think red would be a better indicator of completion but it's just a minor thing), even if you never did that step as a separate thing... Or a step would show done, when you never really completed what it claims you should have done... As an example, when you have the male protagonist see a client of the slave trader, the next step is to go see the trader to get paid, but the step already shows completion and the trader has nothing to give you... So it's unclear why you received no payment when the 2nd step in that quest was to go get paid... There are some animations, that are alright, and pretty much what you expect from Honey Select... The biggest qualm I have with some visuals when using this Japanese character styled theme, is unnecessary moments of characters sticking their tongues out and making peace signs... It actually makes the scenes feel childish and silly, rather then adding anything meaningful when they are used... Especially if the event is meant to be erotic and/or portray a serious moment...
The script is alright, as I only ran into spelling/grammar errors now and then... Sometimes it did feel like the dialogue of the male protagonist was coming from a immature high school student rather then a real adult.. It had this tendency to flip-flop from mature dialogue to spouting immature teen age slang... The plot itself (yes it has a plot) revolved around a male protagonist who is whisked away to his original dimension by a witch, from the parallel dimension he grew up in... From there he finds out his true heritage, and is placed in charge of a hotel as well as being a harem/slave owner... He also has some type of magical power, and machismo... The dimension he lives in is primarily filled with females, which makes him a highly sought after commodity...
After the initial story introduction, it switches to a part Stat Grinder and part Quest driven navigation game, with each game day broken up into multiple phases... You are given the illusion of choice freedom, with various characters being available in certain locations throughout each phase of the day... Sometimes some characters are not available due to steps in the main story line, and sometimes they are linked to side quests... So you do end up having to spend some time, for certain quests, completing repeating/semi-repeating events to grind out stats to move a specific characters story along... While other quests have very specific steps you need to perform before they continue... In some cases, just completing one of the steps finishes multiple steps in a quest, which felt a bit out of place... If doing one step finishes many of the others, why even show those other steps? It's not like you can do them out of order, that I saw... In the end, the main story follows a fairly linear progression...
The story elements themselves are sometimes good and sometimes bad... Sometimes you experience some meaningful and deep story, and other times it feels over the top, or stereotyped, or is just told too fast, etc... Even the sexual content sometimes is quick and sometimes is nicely paced... Sometimes it's dorky, and sometimes it's alright... Not sure if this is due to lack of development experience/skill, or if it's just due to production rushing, who's to say... Same goes for some of the characters... Some are alright and some are very stereotyped... Or, sometimes a character will show some depth of personality, and the next time they are predictable and/or melodramatic, then back to depth... I don't want to say that many characters have personality disorders, but on occasion some do feel a little bit like they do... All of this creates a roller coaster effect as you go through the main story and side stories...
The biggest issue, and it is the only reason I did not play through all the current content, is that after a certain point several of the quest arcs bug out and take you immediately back to the main menu... Causing you to lose any progress you made since the last save... This happened during at least 3 different character interactions related to both the Pandemonium story line, as well as one of the secondary quests... After it happened the 3rd time, I decided that was enough... Those types of bugs make playing any further, impossible...
Overall, I did want to keep playing through this VN/Game, even with all it's various issues, but the kicking to the main menu bug was a killer... You can pretty much tell that most of this VN/Game is focused in on the more porn focused encounters, and not the story... And yet, it does have some interesting story elements here and there... Enough to keep me playing to the point where I no longer could... More so out of curiosity regarding the main plot line... Even if it's a bit hokey now and then... This VN/Game is a bit of a clunky roller coaster ride, with both it's good moments and bad moments...
It is very early in it's development, so the developer/s have plenty of opportunity to shape and mold it into something better, and work out the issues, if they desire to do so... The game breaking bugs are a definite must fix... Will I revisit this one? I dunno, maybe... I guess we'll have to see how it's doing a bit later down the line...
